I've done a bunch of giveaways... public, private, group, contributor.. overall I'd say about half the people that won my giveaways never said thanks to me, not even as a comment on the giveaway after they won. HALF. It's just depressing. One of the more recent winners didn't even redeem the game so I had to make a support ticket (of course one of the ones that didn't say thanks). I have games in my inventory I bought MONTHS ago just to give out on sg and I don't even want to anymore, they've just been sitting there. So, what have your experiences been with winners?

So far every giveaway I've won or made has been gifted through steam so I've always said or received a thank you.
(excluding the Dwarfs giveaway)

I'm not a big fan of the "Thank you" spam in every giveaway, just imagine every person that signs up to express his thanks through the sign-up button. :P

Agree with Skizzik0.
For me there's no point in thanks spaming, only if you really want to appreciate something
(like natural selection 2 giveaway that i see first time for 7 months on sg).
If i win something I'll say thx via steam or by mailing back to the winner.
About receiving thx... well it's depens on the winner, some people know ony basic english, some don't know even that, some kust grab it as a prize (How many thx you hear when someone win on tv?).I'ts all depend on a human if he polite or rude, nothing else.

I rather not have them say thank you, makes me feel weird (I am actually glad when they delete me after they received the gift, I would delete them anyways after a few hours). Thats just me though, most thank you messages are fake anyways.

I'm not the biggest fan of flodding the giveaway with thank you comments, I prefer thanking people by making my own giveaways. Also If I win, I always either add the contributer to thank him, or email him.

They don't play their won games at all ;_;

Perhaps the winners have a backlog, and will get around to playing your games in time? Hopefully...

This, I think, is quite common. Sales happen so often that it is easy to gather dozens of games in your library in little time. Basically faster than one can finish them.

To be honest, every one of the recipients of my gifts has been exemplary.

I can't say I've found that on Steamgifts, although all of my giveaways so far have been group ones.

I do not understand your problem because would you rather have some really be thankful when you give the gift and not say anything in the comments or someone who just says "Thanks!" in the comment section like a bot? I would rather have my first example than the second.

I don't think I've had a thanks back either, but I can't see it bothered me as long as the recipient marked it as received on SG - I didn't even notice until you asked the question. Personally, I always send both a thanks in response to the game (whether by email or steam chat), and add a thanks as the last comment on the thread, it just seems polite.

I haven't won anything yet. But I've been gifted games before (the Deus Ex collection from a very kind person) and I said thank you about 20 times.

I want to make 100% certain that I am very grateful for the kind person to give the game away.

I never say thanks on the giveaways, I believe this is pointless saying thank you for something you haven't even been given (yet). However, if I do win I ALWAYS thank the person gifting me the game at least twice and have a chat with them after.

It is a little different. And you could say thank you on both occasions. The first time is thanking the person for starting the give away, the second is thanking the person for receiving the game.

But, it's up to you.

I can't speak for others, but I always post a thank you in comments, and profusely thank them when I win. The few games I have been able to give away I got a lot of thanks for as well, but they were private chat giveaways, so.....

I don't say thanks upon entering - I see it as a trivial gesture that everyone does.
If there's an interesting description, or I solved a puzzle to get to the giveaway, I'll post a witty response or thank them for the puzzle respectively.
When I've won something though, I've conveyed my sincere thanks to the giver (through steam or otherwise), since their living up to their implied end of the bargain is worth thanking.

With regards to the giveaways I've given, a few have thanked me on steam (all but 2 of my giveaways were steam gifts) which was appreciated and made me feel good about giving things away :)
I don't check to see if they say thanks in the comments though... couldn't care less about that - it's about seeing the appreciation of that one lucky person who did manage to win!
....then I go and delete them from my steam list, since I don't like having randoms on my list :P

"living up to their implied end of the bargain"

You make it sound like a trade :S

Oh well, to each their own. Won't judge you about it.

Nono, feel free to judge - it's an implied human right imo.
What I meant was that if you create a giveaway, it's implied you will actually give the game away to the person who wins on the site. If someone does that, which involves the parting of something of value to another person, that's worth thanking in my opinion :)

I appreciate it when someone doesnt say thanks. I even fall in love with them when they delete me right away.
Thats what I want, I want the winner to simply accept the gift and delete me right away. I'm no thanks-whore like most of the people on here that require you to say thanks otherwise reroll.
In fact I would get a hardcore boner if no one said thanks to my giveaways. "Thanks" only makes me feel weird...

Eh, it's nice when people say thank you, but I'm not really bothered if they don't. I don't usually contact the winners personally and I'm really not interested in being best friends with everyone, so a lot of them never even get the chance to say thank you.

I'm sorry to hear that fradigit... especially considering that I firmly believe in sincerely thanking the gifter both before and after :/

Yeah, I've had such an experience in one of my giveaways (won't specify because we can't call out). The winner hasn't even given the game a try and preferred to play AAA titles instead (plenty of hours and for quite some time now).

What I especially disliked was that he bought a shit-ton of games in the summersale, and played those as well, when my intention was to give the game to someone who (a) would appreciate the game and (b) couldn't afford to buy that many games of their own (since I am in a similar situation).

I still decided to continue gifting, though (and you should to), because there are also good souls around here as well. :)
