I've done a bunch of giveaways... public, private, group, contributor.. overall I'd say about half the people that won my giveaways never said thanks to me, not even as a comment on the giveaway after they won. HALF. It's just depressing. One of the more recent winners didn't even redeem the game so I had to make a support ticket (of course one of the ones that didn't say thanks). I have games in my inventory I bought MONTHS ago just to give out on sg and I don't even want to anymore, they've just been sitting there. So, what have your experiences been with winners?

Most my giveaways are done in a certain group and everyone in that group is thankful really so my experiences have been nothing but good :D

If i give away to private groups everyone entering usually says thanks, but the groups are small... I like giving to a bigger audience :/ Also most private groups don't want me because I'm not active in chat.

I wish it didn't bother me, but it does. Just like all those people that abused bundles. Not really logical or anything I could do to fix it but it bothers me SO MUCH.

the abused bundles do bother me.....

why? after this recent update, abusers doing bad only to themselves

I try not to let it bother me anymore, but the update was pretty recent and before that they were all blatantly breaking the rules! Now it's not a big deal but the emotion is still there

i care only about how fast points are coming, so that's a good thing from bundle games... only good...thing

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

More points isn't a good thing. As everyone gets more points at the same time, that means more people will spend points on randomly entering giveaways to get rid of the points, so your chances of winning a game you actually want go down.

i'm mostly giving away to groups, so thanks is there somewhere, but not so needed for me...
but, yeah, spamming "thanks" on every single giveaway is too low for me, say thanks, if u win maybe...

I don't care if Thanks are left as comments, but everyone has thanked me via an email reply or Steam chat reply when I sent them their key.

Amen. I'm not giving away games for gratitude or status... I just have some spare games sitting around and I rather some one uses them.

Yeah, consider giving them to groups you like.

I have won just one game so far, am pretty new here, but I couldn't imagine not saying thank you. In fact, I thanked the person who gave the game I won by giving them an indigala bundle just as a thanks. To win a free game and not even say thank you to me is just insulting but I will admit I do not comment a "thank you" for every game I enter for.

Thankfully, the first games i gave away here were to groups, but besides that, i've had only one bad experience where the winner had never activated his gift (HL2, on a public giveaway), but thankfully all the others were nothing but great experiences, some even commenting after they finished the game.

Don't give up on the community yet, you might find somewhere fitting for you.

Mm, I normally add the person to say thanks, but one of my wins the person wouldn't add me so I couldn't say thanks.

Yeah, I stopped making public giveaways because at least one third of the time I never even heard from the winner except for the game being activated and "gift received" showing up.

I rarely leave comments on giveaways I enter unless there's something interesting to say (i.e. it was a puzzle) but I ALWAYS thank people when I win and they send me a key/gift. It's only natural...

Do you think it depends on the game? Like are people less likely to thank you for nuclear dawn than something else?

Not noticed much difference, just looking over at my emails, I'd put the number closer to 90%, though the reply emails I get make me smile so much, they are few are far between.

e.g.

Thank you very much you kindly kitty!
Marked and recieved, and will devour at my utmost convienance. Again, thanks for the game! :D

I think all of my winners said thanks. I also say thanks everytime I win(except for one of the ones i won, that the guy added me, said "hello, there it is your game:RANDOM-KEY-INSERT-HERE" and i activated it. As I starting to write thanks, he removes me from friends.

well im sure since this is a public site, their are PLENTY of leechers (mind you im no better, ive yet to contribute however, i figure you only get "thanks" half the time due to the fact that people dont necessarily want the game -vs- just wanting to increase the size of their steam library. Personally, im not broke and i have a somewhat steady job so i dont mind purchasing games that only semi-interest me -only when their on sale. (considering they only partially interest me) However im in no rush to play all these games (as im quite busy) so i tend to enter only in contributions that id know id be willing to try but not necessarily willing to buy for myself.

speaking for myself, (not that ive gotten lucky yet mind you) im just grateful their are people actually giving away games because in most if not all cases, money is always tight and gaming is a luxury. Im sure for all the people who may not say thanks but trully end up playing the game, are grateful, even if they dont express it outward (not that im defending them neither, more so to help give some sort of closure i suppose.)

Either way, im glad you contribute, and i hope that you can find sone sort of resolve in how ya feel.
Thank you

I don't like saying thanks as a comment (looks insincere when the comments are just a wall of 'Thanks'), but if I won something, I'd damn well say thank you for that through email or Steam.

I rarely say thank you on the giveaways because it's such a hassle to scroll down every time... I did it for the first few giveaways I entered and now for the odd one.

I always say thanks in person though (when I've won^^).

You've never heard of the Pg Down key?

Also, protip, ctrl+end = jump to very bottom of page (at least in Windows).

Now you have no excuse.

Only 1 person didn't give thanks to me. You are obviously doing it wrong. Create giveaways ONLY in groups and private for forums and chats, you will avoid 90% of the worst leechers. Oh, well, you can also obviously raise requirement for contribution points and it will wipe out even more jerks.

I would like to think there isn't a wrong way to give away games but maybe you're right. Like I said though, it's hard finding groups because I'm not active in chat. I haven't had better luck with private giveaways in a public spot like the forums, it ends up being about the same as public.

Please don't fall under this mentality. I've always had the impression that the people who join groups have a double motive in mind: better chances to win by sucking up. I find it sad, and it all ends up becoming a circle-jerking fan club where people suck up in order to get in (unless they've been spontaneously invited for something good they've done... I don't know which groups and, honestly, I'm not going to start searching).

.. but, those are my 2 cents.

Feel free to think otherwise.

EDIT: private, on the other hand, might work for you, because in those you can set a specific entry criteria (that must first be accepted by a mod/future support) and be sure that whoever gets it might enjoy it and be grateful.

Meh, I've done 11 giveaways the past few days, around half said thanks. I also won my first giveaway an hour ago. Little did I know the person hosting it changed the description to say they key was region locked and to withdraw our entries. Nice to know the first time I win I get nothing! Certainly won't be saying thanks there...

People are unthankful greedy bastards! Fact!

Having 50% people say thanks to you? Great deal!

If you want a thank you for something, go to a grocery and buy something, the chances of getting a thanks there are way bigger. Sad but true.
