RosimInc's 2025 Nonogram Café

Announcements

2025-01-07 - New code update!

I have updated the game with many improvements! See this post for details!

2025-01-02 - 2025 Edition Begins!

Hello everyone!
First of all Happy New Year to everyone, I wish you all a lovely 2025 <3

Back in 2020, I made the first version of the Nonogram Café, it was a lot of fun but it was quite tedious to create and play the puzzles.
A week ago I started looking at different alternatives online, and finally gave up, and made my own creator and player instead.
So I officially present to you my fully online, fully interactive nonogram player! ^^
Which comes with a nonogram creator, naturally. Look below for the link to it!

I will post a new nonogram weekly, leading to a giveaway each. Giveaways will end one week after the next for fun all year round!

Now you get to play; let's get cracking!™ ;)

Normally I have no problems at all with nonograms, but with this one I completely miss the approach to the solution. I only get one column full and unfortunately can't derive enough from it...
Will try it later again

I'll give you a general hint. I am assuming you already have the vertical 4, 2, 5 column filled. Now look at the one to the right of that with 1, 6, 3. You can already partially fill that on its own like in the image just because of the information at hand. And I am sure you'll find more once this clicks.

Hey everyone :)
Sorry I haven't been active these past few months...
I feel like my brain is on autopilot, trying to cruise through work and life without much thought... oh well I'll figure it out eventually lol

I am not yet ready to continue the event with more weekly posts, but I wanted to pop by and thank everyone for keeping the thread active, making lovely puzzles and sharing the love <3
I've updated the title and the first post to make it seem a bit less like a post-apocalyptic gas station haha

Much love! <3 You guys are the best!

I liked nonos before but your tool has made them a nicely usable puzzle for the community. This makes them usable and nice to solve. I've enjoyed solving all the posted puzzles. I"ve been meaning to post myself. Guess its time I got to it.

Thanks for the site and tool.

Thanks for creating this amazing tool. Take all the time you need :)

Nonograms are one of the reasons I kept using SG since I decided to limit GAs I enter before I finish playing my wins.

BTW, is there a way to to do reverse nonograms? I have the solution shape in mind and want to create a nonogram based on the solution.

Is there any chance you could tell me what should be the very first thing to do in the 15x15 nono, please? Can't figure anything out :(

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

start with bottom line 4-3-5

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The thing is it has many possibilities. I wasn't sure I could still do something with it. I guess I'll try harder. Thanks!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

To work out where some squares have to go count from the left, mark the last square for each of the three numbers, then count starting from the right. This should give you those squares that will be definitely be part of the puzzle. Not sure I am explaining this, would be better if I could show you. Once you get the gist, it is easy. Seems hard the first time.
Yes, just read the poster below - just do what he says, lol.

i started with the right column 624

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In any nonogram if you can get any of the edges solved or just partially solved you are on a great start.

In this case you can partially solve 4-3-5 bottom row (as RevengeBY writes) and the 6-2-4 right column

Taking the 6-2-4 as an example (and rotating it for an eaiser layout here)
By adding the numbers (6+2+4=12) AND the mandatory spaces (2) I get the number 14.
But since the column has 15, I can partial solve most of the fillers - all but 1 field per number. I will call the reduction number.

By using a "reduction number of 1" (the difference 15-14) I can place 5 of the #6 fields, 1 of the #2 fields and 3 of the #4 fields
Partial solution: Hyphen (-) used to indicate not-known-yet. It can either be part of a number or a space

-66666--2--444-

This is true, because the extra field can either appear BEFORE or AFTER the concrete number
E.g. for the 6, it has 2 valid position (with the knowledge you currently have)

666666x-------- <-- solution 1
x666666x------- <-- solution 2
-66666--------- <-- overlapping = partial solution for #6

By simply looking at the OVERLAP you'll get what is valid no matter which solution is the correct one

Lets look at the solution for #2
We know that either 7 fields (#6 + mandatory spacer) or 8 fields (#6 + mandatory spacer + 1 extra spacer) will come before
(You can solve it from the other end if that is easier in other examples)
With a reduction number of 1 we'll only be able to know position of 1 of the fields.

666666x22...... <-- solution 1
666666xx22..... <-- solution 2 (x666666x22 is another solution, but does not effect the position of 22 here)
--------2------ <-- partial solution for #2 (skipping first 8 fields)

With more numbers in a column or row it gets harder to keep track of the positions. But often just solving for the first and last number are sufficient to get a head start.

When the reduction number is greater than 1 it gets (slightly) more complicated, but do remember the extra space is either BEFORE or AFTER. It can be on either side, but that will not have effect on the overlapping fields, so that can be ignored. Note when the reduction number get equal or bigger than the number then you have NO overlapping, then you can't place anything for that number.

I keep track by checking how old the post is, as i generally keep up with these puzzles several times a week, if not every day while drinking coffee and listening to podcasts in the morning.
