i have my graphics card connected via hdmi cable to my tv (where my ps3 is also connected!), i just started Batman arkham asylum but the subtitles are sooo small i need to get closerto tv and this sucks :(, so far it's with most or maybe all games i tried out on tv.

is there any possibility to change this? or do i need to setup something on my tv or graphics card?

If it's a game's subtitles then it's the game's problem.
A solution is decreasing the resolution. If the game renders at 720p and the TV is 1080p it will have to stretch the image, making it bigger.

I often face the same problem. Depending on the base font size, lowering screen resolution can help, for example 19xx to 12xx. For some games, there is nothing to do but getting closer to the TV. As DrHouse said, it is not related to TV or GPU, it is a per game design matter.

I had the same problem and I've tried to lower my game resolution to 720p and end up having small noticeable black borders.

Try 1600x900. Change the resolution in the game option menu. I recommend you stick to the native resolution when using the desktop.

Game Developers will start thinking more about this, now that SteamOS is out and SteamBoxes are being released. For now, we have to endure.

Lower the resolution to 720p, or get a monitor. PC gaming on a TV isn't so great compared to a monitor, at least for me. When I used to use a TV, the sharpness was horrible making things hard to read and see. So I always had to zoom in, and when gaming had to use 720p instead of 1080p. Once I bought a monitor, things were much easier to see.

To switch to 720p in-game, go to the video settings. Under resolution select "1280x720". To switch the desktop resolution to 720p, if you're using Windows: Start-> Control Panel-> Appearance and Personalisation-> Display-> Adjust Screen Resolution. Then select "1280x720".

do i need to switch the resolution on desktop too or is it enough just to switch the resolution to 1280x720 in the GRAPHICS settings of the game?

You only need to switch the setting in the game.

Also, the resolution probably won't fit your screen correctly. So you should go into the nVidia Control Panel/AMD Catalyst Control Centre depending on your GPU make, and play about with the overscan/underscan slider until everything fits right.
