Shoutout to cojoha for unintentionally inspiring this idea.

I know that this is going to be a bit of 'put your money where your mouth is', and I honest and truly wish I could (and I will, eventually, I may not be a huge gibber her, but I think my ratio shows I'm no slouch).

That said, I would love to create an ongoing thread (like You're Not Alone or something similar) that does giveaways for games that could use some exposure. Games that don't really get GAs on SteamGifts much (like this one, this one, or this one.

I'd be happy to organize the thread and do 'events' and otherwise just kinda make it interesting, but I'd need some people willing to contribute. Sadly, I'm too broke to do it right now, but the moment I can spare some money, I'd happily throw something in the pot. Maybe once a month or so, we could vote on a game and get as many copies as possible and do a puzzle related to the game.

The idea for this thread would be to get some variety into the steamgifts pool, have some fun, and even advertise some cool games that people might not know much about.

So, what does everyone think?

I think I've mentioned this somewhere. Not so much games that other people don't know about, but I enjoy giving away games that aren't given away often. But I wouldn't want these games to go to a bot or someone who won't play it :/

All the more reason to do puzzle events, and at the very least, I'd make a point to make the games really visible and get them 'advertised' so people might go 'Oh, I didn't win the giveaway, but I wanna play that!'

Puzzles would deter many people from trying though... Can't think of a good way around it, but it's a good start I guess. Let me know if you need contributors (as long as the games aren't too expensive.) (:

I'll try to encourage games that are on sale and do some at different price ranges.

Also, I'm willing to open some up to just invitations and some for puzzles. I'd also balance the puzzles so that they're difficult, but not prohibitively so. I don't want to discourage people from entering.

Anyway, part of the idea is to see how many people would be willing to help contribute, so thank you for the offer (I'll probably do a under $5 tier, then under $10, then under $25, and a final 'High Roller' tier).

Two out of three of the games you mentioned were already on my wishlist, and I spend a good deal of time digging through Steam for exactly these types of hidden gems.

I hadn't really thought about it yet, but I do expect that at some point I will switch my gifting behavior from mass bundles to way fewer, but very select games, exactly as you described. I'm not sure when that will be - maybe not until I hit level 10, which will probably be in a few months. Hitting level 10 really isn't important, but I think it would make a nice transition point to shift my gifting behavior.

Right now though, buying bundles is my sweet spot, as a find some good games for myself (when I get around to playing) and for Steam Family Sharing (actually a bigger priority than myself right now), and there's a lot of gifting value there for games I don't want. Whether the winners are collection addicts, card mongers, or just have different gaming tastes than I do and genuinely want the games doesn't really matter to me if it's making them happy. At the end of the day, gaming is about having fun, so who cares if the person has more fun collecting the games than actually playing them?

I think the huge volume of bundled games on SG is an important part of the life-blood of this site, but I absolutely agree that more variety would add some needed flavor to the pot. I'll be keeping an eye on this - I hope you get some traction.

16 yeses in an hour is pretty promising, so I'll probably set it up eventually unless things take a weird swing. I'm thinking right now about what's the best way to set it up, and how I would do 'events' and vet games.

I want to avoid people making giveaways for the thread only to be turned down, and I want to try to make sure the games are genuinely underrated.

I'll probably at the very least create a thread each month to ask for people to nominate and vote on games 'endorsed' by the thread for that month, and do events for those. I just don't know what the vetting process will be beyond that.

There's also this group, dealing with the same questions.
http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/mjbnp/hidden-gems-giveaways-hgg

There's some discussion about having a curator for the group, which might be a good source of games that meet the criteria. Maybe some synergy, maybe better to have two separate initiatives. Food for thought. :)

I've seen it, but this one would be a bit 'flashier' I suppose, and hopefully curated a bit better. If they're interested in helping out or joining efforts, maybe we can. I'd be happy to give them a shout out.

Yes, this is awesome. While I don't think I'd be able to help in such a thing at the moment, I do love the idea of seeing games that people love, that some of us might not heard of. Even if the giveaway was one I couldn't enter, it would be cool to at least see what the games are so I can learn about new games to look forward to. I'm the type of person that avoids playing the newest game (I don't think I've played any 2015 released games) rather I look for great games already available

I never really used or bought anything on steam until recently, but it was awesome to have my wishlist built up by simply seeing games being given away on this website (which is pretty much the time I've built my wishlist on Steam).

That would be nice.
Don't know if this game meets the requirements.

Dragon Age is definitely a known series by a big company. It might fit the 'not often gibbed' category (but even then, I see probably at least one a week), but the idea is to go with games that don't have a lot of publicity as well.

Yup... would totally join in... When I have money I can help. (but you know that... cause... not two feet?) ^_^

I think I'm getting comfy with making puzzles, so a puzzle worked on by a few people could be interesting.

But in the thread?

You are saying about rare games, right?
And instead of making them public you want to make them invite-only in a specific thread :)

Well yes, I strongly doubt I'd be getting a lot more publicity for a public game, since I bet most people who do public GAs and don't go on the forums just enter GAs and move on without thinking much.

With a thread, I can talk up the game, do events, stuff like that. Really call attention to the games. Not to mention that the people who get the games will be more like to be people who will play them.

great list. Half of them in my wishlist. Seems to be good games, but most of them haven't any serious discounts on wintersale. The Flame in the Flood didn't get any, for example.

good idea. But it would be real trouble for me to find such games without region restrictions.

I think it would work better as a group since the entry pool could be at least somewhat monitored.

While I do giveaway all my bundle spares because I prefer the keys being used rather than sitting in a spreadsheet doing nothing, I also make special giveaways from time to time for games that I feel strongly about and that I think could use more exposure and which I have purchased at full value to support the developers.

Whether a game has been bundled or not is inconsequential in my opinion -- it is the fact that I want to share the experience I had playing the game with others that I am trying to get across. Many amazing games that have been bundled have been vastly overlooked, and it's kind of sad that a lot of people on this site just think of them as "bundle crap" when, at least in my experience, they are better than many of the much hyped "AAA" titles which I have tried and been disappointed in.

However, when I do give these types of games which I feel strongly about, I also hope they do not sit in someone's collection without being played. I have some thoughts on administering a group which caters to this point, but it is a work in progress and I currently do not have the time to run it properly. Perhaps in a few months.

I would encourage you to create such a group, but I am not really interested in running a group, nor do I think it's the most efficient way to get attention for the games.

That said, redundancy in this sort of thing is good. It can create more avenues for good games to find audiences and for players to find new and interesting games. So if I do it my way, and you do it yours, we can get more attention to these little diamonds in the rough that deserve it.
