I've not read everything said in the other thread, but I do think that unless expressly allowed by CG, SGtools should not have ref-links.
then again, it's cut down on so much headache for me. The amount of thanks spammers have gone down by 100% since I started adding a 0,05 ratio requirements to my giveaways that I don't know if I'll stop using it, even if that makes me a hypocrite

Thanks for this pastebinTools protected GA! Much better than spywarerefferalsTools :)
But I woluld like to point out another problem with sgt.
What about "no special rules" rule? SGTis basically made for creating special rules. If I create public GA I send gift to everybody - even to rule breakers if they already served their suspension (but this needs to be confirmed by support first).

There is no "no special rules" rule, there is only "no special action" rule - "You cannot ask users to perform any special action in order for their entry to be considered valid, such as liking a Facebook page, or following a Twitter account."

I dunno if it still doesn't affect sgt. For example ratio related rules. Special rule - create as many ga's as you won or to get other ratio. It basically requires to buy 50 copies of bad rats xD

You can have special rules, just that support won't reroll based on it link. But SGTools is more like itstoohard since they give you a link to the giveaway after meeting requirements (knowing the answers to questions, or passing the rules check.

That's what I'm talking about xD Itstoohard is for puzzles and sgt is for... special rules xD But seems like special rules are fine if they are not directly on steamgifts.

It's no different than just sending those links to people personally. Which is allowed. What isn't allowed is requiring something and making mods/admins to enforce that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And that's why rerolls are applied due to leaked links and not because somebody doesn't fit sgt rules. I get it. I just have problem with understanding what is good and bad here. And rules seems to be implemented not to create some kind of fair "law" but to make support life easier.

I see no problem here. There's absolutely no reason for anyone to use the referral links, so the fact that they're there makes no difference.

And as for the SGTools issue, I actually support what they're doing. Those ref'd links are actually useful, so if the site gets some money from them, they deserve it. It's basically an ad, and a completely unobtrusive one at that.

Edit: I should also point out that there's a big difference between a useful site doing it and a random person doing it. A useful site has the right to seek revenue, even if from referrals. They have to keep the site running, after all. But if someone just posts on this forum, say, a list of popular games with referral links to G2A, that would not be justified.

Oh man, I have Avast referral on my steam profile since forever. SG is linking my profile on their own and thus if they ban you for breaking the rule they'll have to ban CG for breaking the rule too. Wait, this doesn't help your cause.

i'm on your side. but i think the rules should be updated...
remember sgv1? there were tons of rules
they were dropped cause support were overwhelmed (official reason anyway).
this sgtools doesn't help, they are still overwhelmed...

i say it is time for sgv3 rules update. either enforce them, or do not. there is no "try"

+1 Either the rules should apply to everyone, or to no one. As long as there is no official exception for sites and people, everyone should be treated equally, even popular members.

+1, cg should adopt a strike system, something like this:

  • 1st infraction - regular suspension length
  • 2nd infraction - double suspension length
  • 3rd infraction - triple suspension length
  • 4th infraction - perma-suspension

If people can't even be bothered reading the rules of the site they signed in, they shouldn't be allowed to stick around doing whatever they want for too long.
Of course, the FAQ section should be translated in a wider variety of languages, to avoid bumping into language barriers.

I recommend you to open all GAs you won and check it. I checked few of them and it seems you usually say thanks but there are also some exceptions. So maybe some BLs you got are caused by these exceptions. You also can write them that you are sorry that it took you so the long to thank them. Maybe some of them will unblacklist you (in case it is even possible for you enter the GAs).

I'm fine with CG having ref links in the deals section. He is the owner of the site and has to keep the site up (which probably isn't cheap) after all. But he should only do it to keep the site running and not for personal gain in my opinion (which I'm sure he won't do).

He keeps SGT going and not SG. I have no problem if he would help to keep SG going, but otherwise he should just stick to the rules of SG (or at least treated the same as others).

So, I am not very familiar with those ref links but even if somebody clicks on them shouldn't there also be a purchase made in order to earn anything? Isn't that like 1 in 1000? How much would they actually earn? 20$? I doubt you can run the site with 20$/month. I doubt those ref links are that significant.
I think ads are a way more important source of income for the site and cg. That's why steamgifts is the only site I have disabled adblock on.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's probably not a huge amount indeed, but SG has a lot of users and it's really anyones guess how much he actually gets from it. But ads are probably the main way to keep the site up indeed.

cg can put referrals on sg, it's his site.

knsys can also put referrals on sgtools, but not link them here, or everyone should be able to do the same for any kind of "service" they offer.

A giveaway is a service. Therefore, by the logic that sgtools should be allowed referral links because of providing a service, anyone should be allowed referral links because they are giving a service - the giveaways - to the community. After all, without the "service" of the giveaways, the "service" of sgtools wouldn't even be needed.

let me sum it up for you:
- gleam/gimme giveaway with referral links required to complete actions = banned
- gleam/gimme giveaway with referral links not required to complete actions = banned
- users posting referrals in giveaways and forum = banned
- users posting a pastebin filled with referrals in giveaways and forum = banned
- users posting their blog/site/steam profile filled with referrals in giveaways and forum = banned

sgtools giveaway - deal section, visible link
hidden referral in the deal section
- users posting sgtools links = allowed

steamgifts rules?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

For example if you click on my G2A ref link and buy something, I'll get a share from G2A which is good for me, and not bad for you. But as greedy every people is, I want to get more money, so I post my ref links everywhere, hoping that someone buys something after finding it - now multiply this with a few thousands accounts on SG. This is why it's not allowed, which is okay. But I don't understand why is it problem on Gleam giveaways where everyone just clicks join and stuff and then leaves/unfollows everything - especially when less actions is required than the number of them. (like 3 out of the 8). And this last example is what SGTools fall into - has ref links but no one forces you to click on them, and they are not spammable (as you share GA-SGT links) but again, each gleam link if shared, offered the chance/guaranteed game as well. While forum-refs are understandably banned, gleam and SGTools had in the same fashion. One got banned, the other one is okay, thanks. Just weird.

All non devs, giving dev keys lately via SG or via similar sites glem.io or just promoting their game/group/etc are kinda annoying, nobody does nothing against them, and lot of them put their refs everywhere(except directly on SG), but most of ppl seem to never care, they just go and do anything for free stuff, even if it`s some mostly negative game. Would be cool if they stop.
