That sounds like a good choice if you're looking for flexibility and polyvalence. Asus is a good enough brand for mid-range laptops (speaking from experience) and the only negative thing I can say about them is that there's too much crapware but it can be deleted without trouble.
I'm a bit surprised by the price tag though because I got an Asus gaming laptop 18 months ago for 200 bucks less and it came with an I7 CPU, and an RTX 3070 laptop GPU so this feels a little overpriced.
I mean... I know inflation hit us hard since then but still, have you looked at other models or maybe for the same one on Amazon?
I guess it could be the screen that's more expensive, I don't know

if you want an oled panel on a laptop they will charge a lot for the display alone ... same thing with touchscreens

Might not be a good time to buy a laptop... honestly I think I'd have a lot more choices if I could extend the search to actual gaming laptop, but since I can't do this, these are the best models I could find on Italian market recently. Amazon does sell the it model for 1100... but it's a 3rd party seller I don't trust much :D

yup this, although the oled is worth it imo. With some saturation tweaks the colours end up looking amazing

although i have an asus but the track pad texture has been coming off recently making it too grippy. Not all is good ...

I agree about the junk...Whatever will be my final choice, I'm asking you a question for future reference. Is it possible to do a clean Windows install at first bootup? Or there will be issues with license activation? Both my previous laptops were asus but have been setup by the tech shop that sold them, so they came with loads of preinstalled software which I then uninstalled manually. Thanks in advance, and excuse the possibly obvious question :D

Depends on the version of Windows but the short answer is yes. You can just do a reset.
If you want to reinstall Windows from scratch, you can check the status of your license by logging into Microsoft from the account you use to first boot your Windows.

i would take the 12650 over the 12450 just for the 2 more p cores. is battery life important for you because many intel based laptops often got less battery life than amd based machines. for cpu intensive workloads the cpu will do anything you need.
i looked for your config in germany and nobody sells it here.

I'd pay more attention to the GPU as both CPUs are more than enough for such a graphics card. Consider buying a laptop with at least a 3060(available for the same price or less) as a 1440p 120 Hz or 144 Hz display won't do you much good if your GPU is too weak. Maybe you can get a 4060 for a little more money if your budget allows. ASUS isn't the brand I'd buy as I saw too many fail because a chip in the power delivery circuit died(and took the CPU with it). Have a look at offers from Gigabyte or MSI as they seem less prone to failure.
Also make sure there's a free storage slot for another M.2 SSD as 500 GB or even 1 TB isn't much if you play games with 100 GB or more.

The main problem here is my need for something that is not marketed as a gaming laptop. For storage I did my math, I should be good for how I play and what I need on my system. I'll try to adjust the search to a 3060 GPU and I'll see how it goes, but I've seen it mostly on actual gaming models. Thanks for all your inputs though. I'm still learning a lot about computers, so advice is welcome and appreciated

actually l suggest you specifically search for mid-tear gaming laptops, as they are usually much less expensive than similarly specced "business laptops", plus they got a lot more discount deals:

I hear you and that sucks, but the fact is these consumer-oriented gaming laptop cost a lot less than equivalent workstation business laptops.
Just because they have shiny RGB lights you should not exclude them. Maybe you can explain to the IT department at your work that you'd actually be saving them money instead of getting lower specced business-oriented laptop which cost more..
I remember a recent LTT video making the case for gaming laptops for non-gamers too:

Thats dumb, I know many people who use gaming laptops for work or school because they are usually the best option

I've finally narrowed down my options for a new laptop to two variants of the same model, this one.
1TB SSD is not important for me right now. OLED Screen would also be nice, but My main doubt is the CPU. Is there a lot of difference between Intel® Core™ i7-12650H and Intel® Core™ i5-12450H? I'd like to save the 150€, but also don't want to make a choice I'll regret later on. If you know of other models about 1200€ of budget, I'm also open to suggestions. Thanks in advance, everyone! ;)
