What is your opinion of the best anti virus software out there? I personally don't use any because I don't do any that I worry about viruses.

My wife however reads a lot of anime and torrents and click on anything that has ever popped up on her computer. I ran some free virus protection and it wasn't much help. Each one found dozens of virueses but the next time they were back. So I assume free won't work. So which do you think is best so I can give it a shot.

If you pick other please tell me what it is.

Also if you pick one please tell me.

most of her problems are adware i am pretty sure. The ad blocker will make it less annoying but it is still there.

You can try Malwarebytes/HitmanPro for malware or AdwCleaner for adware.

Malwarebytes has a real time protection for premium users, HitmanPro and AdwCleaner are portable and doesn't have RTP.

I'm currently using Webroot, it's really light on resources and works pretty well.

I switched to Avira last year but I've just uninstalled it because of the obnoxious popups they've just added in.

Antivirus once you are infected? Sorry , but good luck with that :(

There are tricks to avoid detection to any antivirus ( there is a black market out there) , so is mostly common sense (No man sky is not 932kb in size) , an up to date backup, and ready to format your pc (and never, ever use usb keys from other people).

On the other hand, Panda Antivirus somewhat works fine (even if is worse than Chrome at using resources)

I use Avast, add blocker and common sense. That combo tends to work fine.
Also, how does she reads anime?

What do you mean how does she read anime? She goes to some websites where people load them.

I think the point is that anime refers to the ones that are animated, so the equivalent would be cartoons, manga is the one that you read similar to a comic.

Anime is short for animation(if writen as it sounds, animeishon), and animation is watched not read.

Since you've mentioned it's more of an adware problem, I would recommend Adwcleaner (works really well if the computer is infected). I personally uses it and it works really well, imo.
For Antivirus though, most of the free ones doesn't work all that well. I'd say Kaspersky (trial), 360, and Avast are the best ones in the "free to use" antivirus program category.

From my experience NOD32 is the best, followed by Kaspersky by close. If you are gonna pay I would recommend you any one of those two.

I also too don't use an antivirus because I mainly don't have anything important on this machine and I format it from time to time, but beware, there are a lot of ways that an intruder gets to you, and I don't mean viruses, adwares, ransomware; I mean stuff like botnets or real intruders. And most of the times an antivirus/firewall could protect you from some forms of this. So after a time of seeing vulnerabilities exploited I came to the conclusion that antivirus/firewall are a somewhat "good" kind of software. At least in windows environment where the majority of attacks happen to normal people.

Speaking for the US market, Kaspersky is one of the AV suites sold for "free after rebate". (E.g. buy product for $45, submit paperwork, get $45 in the mail a couple of months later.)

until you get the PC clean of ALL viruses/malware/adware, no anti virus is going to do much to help you. Out of your list, Kaspersky would be my recommendation. There are many that are effective, though. Even MS Defender is decent now at protecting you from getting a virus. Add in adblock/malwarebytes (pro) for additional protection.

I'd also try to teach (though I share 100% in your pain, here) her to not to click on every freaking thing that pops up on the screen (hope you have better luck than I did)
