"Stuff" being reworked boss fights, preorder bonus mission also being integrated, weapons from the other preorder bonus being hidden in the main game, and the groundwork for second-screen play to match up with Wii U / PS3 + vita linkup etc. (doesn't do anything yet though, because the Intel® Screen Control stuff required for that is not available yet)
Comment has been collapsed.
The second screen stuff is without a doubt one of the most pointless gimmicks I've ever seen. "Oh my God, a keypad! Let me get the tablet and touch the virtual keys instead of clicking them! Feel that immersion -- it's like I'm actually an augmented secret agent with blades hidden in my arms!" The fact that they're restricting it to people with Genuine Intel® CPUs, even though there's obviously no technical requirement for that, is just icing on the cake.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, I'm not sure you can blame SE for it being restricted to Intel, as it is specifically Intel's software that is restricted (so blame Intel?).
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not blaming anyone for anything. Obviously it's a marketing move on Intel's behalf, yes, and more power to 'em.

The preorder bonus mission was always integrated, at least in the console versions.

I guess no one will know this, but you never know, something similar may have happened before - will it become cheaper when it is on sale for those who already own the base game and the DLC? Like if it's 75% off will it be 1€ instead of 4€? Or will it be 4€ for everyone? I'd like to have the updated version, but I generally dislike that I have to pay for a patch and I have so many games to play that I can wait.
Comment has been collapsed.
Dollars to donuts, by the time this goes on sale the owner bonus will have vanished, and the base price is 20 for everyone. Or else the discount just doesn't apply. Really, if you don't want to pay €4 for it now I don't see why €1 is a fairer price -- you should probably wait for a giveaway then. :-)
Comment has been collapsed.
Doubt the owner bonus will ever vanish as people would get mad about it. But I could imagine the bonus won't apply. Whatever, I'll buy it when I feel that I will actually play it. Even though I still think that this 'patch' should be free for people who bought every single DLC plus Augmented Edition like I did.
Comment has been collapsed.
Two months is long enough for anyone who wanted to buy the upgrade to buy it, so I think they could definitely afford to anger those holdouts without too much repercussion.
I don't see how, if you were willing to spend money on DLC to begin with (and I'm not counting the Missing Link since that adds actual gameplay) you now think you should get stuff free. You already paid way too much for all that, they probably figure 4 more bucks won't break your bank. When you buy DLC you know they're eventually going to put all that in a new Extra Super Special Mega Hyper Extended Bundle: World Warriors Edition, you're paying for the privilege to have it now.
I think €4 for just the changes in the Director's Cut edition that have nothing to do with the DLC (like the improved boss battles) is probably still worth it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Some kind of GOTY edition yes, but not one that actually improves the game. Just the usual GOTY edition every other game has. The one thing I'm mostly interested in is the inclusion of the Missing Link DLC as I didn't play that one yet and never liked the idea of a stand-alone DLC. I generally dislike boss battles, but the ones in DR weren't as bad as many people said imo. Apart from the lack of a non-lethal/stealth approach, but that's specific to DR. Don't care about the graphic improvements. If they added a few small side quests or a few new (small) areas to explore I'd buy it immediately, but now it does feel like a patch I have to pay for.
In the end I will of course buy it one way or another, but I still feel slightly ripped off.
Comment has been collapsed.
They integrated the Missing Link mission into the main game, and that's a substantial addition -- it's not just an extra map with some enemies you breeze through, it's got a storyline and characters and everything. So if that's the only thing you're missing, I'd still say it's money well spent.
The boss battles weren't bad, they were just very much not in the spirit of the game. I didn't hate them as much as the rest of the world seemed to do either (each of the bosses can be handled by some combination of sufficiently cheesy tactics), but they weren't very inspiring either. DX is not a straight up FPS, but the boss battles virtually forced you to play it as such.

I guess i will wait a bit to buy it, wait to fix all the new and old bugs. I don't mind paying a bit more for the game (because it's amazing), but making me pay for this and yet releasing it in this state with all of the original and new bugs, that's bs.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, the fact that they somehow managed to release this mispriced, mistimed and buggy certainly doesn't argue in their favor. I've held out on buying it for exactly that reason -- it's not like it's going to get cheaper and if they do patch it I'll get the updates, but I'm not paying for something that's obviously not a finished product. They've had plenty of time, if they want me to beta-test for them they should pay me. :-)

I own the Missing Link already, just like the two other small DLC and the Augmented Edition base game. So nothing really new in the DC edition I didn't already pay for. I only didn't play the Missing Link yet.
But the game is too good. And I wouldn't be able to play the Missing Link as a standalone only to save 4€. Especially since I didn't play completely non-lethal yet. It just doesn't feel right to pay money for slightly improved boss battles and having the DLC as part of the main game, where it should have been right from the start.

in short: no does not stack
in long: when there is a sale the sale take over the prices and does not stack. owners of older cities games got 85% off cities xl but during a sale it was discounted to the sale price so if sale was 50% you could only buy it at 50% off. no stacking and no owners discount during sales.
p.s. you can not gift the new dues ex:HR. only buy for yourself. (at this time)
Comment has been collapsed.
This is slightly different though since it's the same game. I already own everything apart from a few small enhancements (afaik only slightly improved boss battles and graphics plus putting the DLC where it always should have been - inside the main game). But probably you're still right, it won't stack.

p.s. you can not gift the new dues ex:HR. only buy for yourself. (at this time)
Doh! I saw that I could buy it as a gift when it first went up, and was hoping that a sale would drive the price down further. Then, HR:DC for everyone!
Alas, they figured out my plan...

One euro can probably buy like... two cups of coffee! That's serious business!
Comment has been collapsed.
Ha! I can go into any number of places and buy individual k-cups for our Keurig for anywhere between $0.50-$0.70. The current Euro CAD conversion puts it at like a buck forty-four. Barring taxes, a euro can in fact buy about two cups of coffee. =P

If you're living in a place where €1 is more than a decent meal, you should probably not be worried about spending money on the Director's Cut edition of DX to begin with.
Comment has been collapsed.
...which is my point exactly. How does it argue in favor of yours? Why would anyone spend 4 days worth of meals (as the price currently stands) on an upgrade for a game that cost them many more days of meals, apparently?
Where I'm living I definitely don't price my games in terms of meals. €1 could buy me food, but definitely not "more than a decent meal". So, relatively speaking, €1 in terms of games ought not to be a lot.
Comment has been collapsed.
Because you might be living on a set budget. You might have X money for food and Y money for leisure, none of them being too high in absolute terms, but enough in relative terms to get you by.
For example, you might happen to have 4€ every month to spend on video games, with food being settled. An extra 1€ is therefore out of your budget, unless you want to eat or go out less.
But if you have 50€ to spend on video games because your budget and overall living standard are higher, then yeah, 1€ isn't that big of a deal and won't make much of a difference.
Be sure to keep in mind that the game in question had huge discounts in the past. I, for example, have bought it for 1.79€, and the three DLCs have brought the total up to 3.33€.
Now compare 3.33€ to 4€ for this upgraded version, or 5€ as it were. One is 20% higher, the other is 50% higher. I mean, it's still not a good deal even at 4€, but we'll let it slide for the sake of it.
You keep looking at things in absolute terms. Don't.

I see your point now, and am humbled by it.
Thank you.

Same here, I own both the original DXHR and The Missing Link and still picking this up. :)
I got them (DLC + base game) at 5 dollars, don't mind expending a bit more for the DC (which is way more than just a patch).
BY THE WAY, Second-Screen compability is coming to the PC version, a moderator in the official forums stated they are setting things up for its use with Intel's tech.

"..which is way more than just a patch."
Really? Name me one thing in the DC that could be considered something a patch wouldn't do in any other game? There is 0 new actual content.
Comment has been collapsed.
... A couple of high-res image files you can find on Google, and the devs indulgently talking about their own game, which probably took a mere day or two to make with no real planning or effort? Oh wait, they also tout "improved graphics" - which amounted to probably no more than tweaking a couple of values on shaders and the like. That's worth asking all of us 5 bucks? While they even managed to screw up and re-introduce old bugs that had already been fixed, before?
Puh-lease. This is ridiculous. They should have just not bothered with the commentary or "art book" (which are both mere justifications for asking cash for this) and made this a free patch..
Comment has been collapsed.
Hey, I'm not saying its great, but its still more than a patch. And since I had expected this not to come to pc, I'm happy as it is.
Comment has been collapsed.
New Game+? It's gonna be either included from the getgo or not included at all.
The included DLC isn't in patches either, it's always gonna be either you buy it or a GOTY edition (which you would also have to buy separately)
Comment has been collapsed.
Was €3,99 from the start for me. Don't know about the bugs, but it is a good deal. I can understand complaining about the bugs, but not the price. Because if someone decides to pick it up for €4,99 then that's your own choice, no one is forcing you to. If you thought that was too much, then why would you buy it in the first place. It's the same thing as complaining about a sale because you paid more for it earlier.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, not exactly. SE actually promised on their own site it would be €3,99. Then they put it up for €4,99. People complained but they still bought it, except for the ones who felt ripped off. Then SE put the price at what it was supposed to be in the first place. And now you've got a problem because the people who paid €4,99 can see they were not supposed to pay that.
Sure, you can argue that they have no right to complain about spending money they were obviously willing to spend, but at the same time it's not hard to see how people would feel ripped off, especially if you were expecting it to be at €3,99 but bought it at the higher price because "what's €1 more". Well, it's a lot more if it turns out you didn't have to pay it after all.

fixed boss battles? i only heard of updated graphics and integrating the missing link into the story. i've already played through the whole thing so not interested in paying any more for nothing of substance. there are companies who would have made this free for people who already had human revolution and the missing link, like frozenbyte did with trine 2 complete story.

Additionally, Deus Ex Collection gifts have now lost any DE: HR items. I'm not 100% sure if redeeming the gift doesn't include them, but I know the collection doesn't list those items anymore, and the icon has changed from an DE:HR image to just a "steam gift" picture. I seriously hope they change this back, because I was most interested in Human Revolution Q_Q
Comment has been collapsed.
I think it still does include them.
Something similar happened with the GTA Complete Pack, dissappeared from store, GTA 1&2 unlisted from the gift also, new pack available, without GTA 1&2. But activating a gift which had GTA1&2 at the time of purchase, did indeed also give GTA 1&2.

Could someone tell if the Director's Cut gonna get to my library as the separate game (i.e. I'll have 2 entries: Deus Ex Human Revolution and Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut, each with its own saves and achievments) or it will just upgrade the original? Pretty please?

Just finished it, nice round 30 hrs of playtime. From what i could notice game is not so orange anymore, boss fights are tweaked (you can use turrets to your advantage and find some weapons) but they still feel out of place, especially if youre going for full stealth build so expect some mild rage. Missing Link dlc is now integrated in main story timeline and all the praxis kits you earn/find there will carry over after you get off the boat
Comment has been collapsed.
Whoa, so how many Praxis kits total for the game now?

Count on losing quite a few praxis points when arriving at Rifleman Bank...

Should have been a free patch. What a load of old festering cow nuggets.

The boss battles were borked. If you pursued stealth, for example, you invariably got boned in the boss fights. The guts of this update is a balance patch.
3 years ago, nobody would have dreamt of charging for this.

I finished this game on hardest difficulty and with Foxiest of the Hound and Pacifist in mind. Had very little problems with bosses.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not really, this is basically a GOTY edition. All DLC is included and there's a New Game+ mode and they've reworked stuff, as well as adding a few more things. You never get free GOTY editions, and this adds more than a GOTY edition does.

Hoo boy. So Square Enix advertises DX: HR: DC: Electric Boogaloo for €3.99 in Europe to people who already own the base game and the Missing Link DLC, but when it's on sale, it's actually €4.99. And there was much grumbling. Even more so when it turns out this version has bugs that's long since been patched in the version that's not the Director's Cut. That is, if you could actually play it, since right after buying it, you couldn't install it since they screwed up the release times. And that's not considering the people who think this ought to be free in the first place, "since it's a patch". (It's not, but let's not go there.)
So then Squenix fixes their mistake: now it's €3.99. And there was even more grumbling from people who want their €1 back... Squenix has promised (on their site) that they'll refund it, though there's no word yet as to how their going to, um, square that with Steam. Also no word on when they intend on patching out the reintroduced bugs.
Video game companies, take note. If you want some lessons on how not to do a release, pay attention to Square Enix, they seem to have this down pretty well. Mind you, I still think €4 for this is a good deal and I'll definitely pick it up, but sheesh.
