I have not brought a game at release for that ridiculous $100 ( I live in NZ ) price tag in quite some time. The last game i can remember paying 100 bucks for was World in Conflict which came out in 2007 and i almost regretted paying so much for it immediately.

So do you buy games on release or wait for their price to plummet?

I occasionally buy on release. Skyrim, Borderlands 2 and The Witcher 2 are the most recent ones I recall. Though, for Skyrim I had a $40 best buy card to use, and for Borderlands 2, I traded in a bunch of 360 games I no longer played. Also, Batman Arkham Origins, which was $15 a month later:(

If that's so then don't be surprised if/when it gets revoked later due to payment fraud. Just going to put that out there right now.

Wut? You probably wanted to say Battlefield 3, for that price i would say it's a "impossible" price for Battlefield 4.

Well you can wait till the review is up but by that time, the world is already overrun by dickwraiths. But to be honest, I can't see how Dark Souls 2 will fail.

Personally, there has NEVER been a game worth the usual full price of about $60, so to save myself from the disappointment that could come from throwing about $45 down the drain, i always wait until the Steam sale of said game.
Also, a friend of mine has a hacked 360 and gets games before they are released in Canada so i get to play some of them before making the purchase decision.

$5 or less. That is the price a game has to be in order for me to buy it.

Only game with this exception is Guild wars 2.

TWD Season 2, The Wolf Among Us...but seriously, even though I love Telltale and everything they make, the time gap between each episodes is just gnarly and pisses me off so much.

still, The Wolf Among Us 2nd episode comes out next week!

Rarely, if I really trust the devs based on past experience. But even then, thankfully my taste is such that I usually don't want the highest-priced games, with a few exceptions like the AC titles (and those I definitely wait for to go on sale). I don't think my highest payments for fresh releases(/a few preorders) were ever above 25 eur.

Wait until I can trade for it cheap almost always.

As my backlog grows, the decision to let the game be and wait for a sale becomes easier. It's a rare case where I both have time and desire to play a game right now and I'm willing to pony up full price for it.

And even then I never buy anything without some reviews up, because even the greatest developer in the world with a flawless track record can screw up and deliver crap. Happened before, will happen again. So full price, rarely, preorder, never.

I don't buy the games on release but it looks like dark souls 2 will be an exception.

I just play other games until it becomes bundled or sale(depends on game)

I only do so for games that I truly love. Last ones being Mass Effect 2 Collector's, Mass Effect 3 Collector's and Dragon Age 2 Collector's. No regrets whatsoever with those. I used to do so with Need for Speed, but skipped the last 3/5 titles since they're not that good enough to warrant an immediate purchase. A combination of sales stubbornness and my liking will determine how low other games fare.

I plan on pre-ordering Dragon Age Inquisition, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and maybe even Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

Only PS 4 exclusive titles. I was a PS 3 gamer and bought them all at release then. about 45 games or so. When I think back I spent alot for games :S. But after building my new PC I started playing AND buying almost only PC games (GTA V and The Last of Us being the exceptions). Since July 2013 my games library on steam grew from 24 games to now 631 games :D

I've bought only two games on release, Mass Effect 3 and Final Fantasy VIII in December last year. I only regret ME3 but it's not tragic.

Not very often.

Bought DayZ last week at full price, I haven't played much yet but I know I'll be putting a lot of hours into it. Prior to that it was Skyrim and I had over 300 hours in it. Willing to do it if I want to play it within the immediate future and think I'm going to play the game a lot. Like someone else said on this thread, my backlog has grown massively and I've loads of good games I could be playing while I wait for sales or base prices to drop.

Will also be getting the new Thief game when released although I had a voucher for that with my graphics card so it doesn't count.

Most of the time, if I pay full price for a game I regret it down the road, even if the game was decent. Usually it takes a game that is very good and very cheap to make me feel OK with "wasting" my money on it at all. I try and stay away from new releases, but sometimes the excitement I have for a game is just too much and I break (physical bonus stuff definitely helps break me... like I don't already have enough junk lying around my house >,<). However, every game I've preordered (I never just show up on release day and buy a game I didn't preorder) I regretted within a month, tops. Assassin's Creed III might be an exception, but I kind of feel that the only reason I considered this game worth the $60 was because it was my first time playing the series' multiplayer. If the multiplayer had been old news to me by then, I'd probably have been mad at myself for getting run over by the hype train AGAIN. :P

Not anymore. Why?

  1. Price, I simply can't afford. My max price tags are 10 euro for regular game, and 15 euro for some kind of goty.
  2. Bugs (most of games are in alpha stage at release, and only some devs confess to that - imo it's should be cheaper at release as buyers become beta testers)
  3. There is a lot of a bit older games that are great and I haven't beat them yet so I have no rush.
  4. Hardware aspects - new games are badly optimized at the begining and generally more demanding, again no rush in spending my money. I upgrade my gaming rig when I really need it, not becouse of 1 game.

Ofc there are for sure people for whom expences of such leauge are meaningless, unfortunatly I'm not the one of them.

Just 2 games;

1- CoD MW3 ( My first Steam purchase ): I'm glad I purchased this.Hundreds hours of fun, I probably won't buy any CoD games again since I have one.

2-Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Full Burst: Best thing I've ever played.I've been waiting an anime game on PC for years.I love Naruto so even the weirdness in story mode, it was a great experience.

Very very few games i do. Dark souls 2 will be the most recent (albeit hasnt been released yet) example of one. At the end of the day, regardless what price i pay, if i play 1$/h worth of the game, i consider it a good purchase. Nothing can be cheaper and more entertaining at that price

Depends on the game. I generally preorder games from companies/distributors that have limited runs like NISA or Atlus. Both companies have a good track record of releasing games that I have an interest in playing. I rarely buy or preorder big brand games; most of the time it's not worth it and the game ends up being disappointing.
