So I bought a RoW key from a trusted trader and it is showing a region error when I try to activate. Everything I read made it sound like RoW was available in US. Am I wrong on that, or did I get scammed?

UPDATE: I was able to get a full refund and get the wallet keys revoked by the retailer who sold them to me :)

It looks like is Region locked, Since you said is a trusted trader why you are here in the first place making a post?? First try to communicate with the trader to fix your problem. Anyways we can't do anything to help you out.

He is from EU, the same post in which he gave the key, he said it was 3:30 and he is going to bed and logged. I just wanted to see if I was misunderstanding something about RoW since I rarely trade.

Ok then I"ll will ask a couple of questions,

  1. Did you go to: https://steamrep.com/ and did check his steam rep profile?
  2. Since you said hes a trusted trader hes from steam trades or else ware? (Pls don't post his profile link is not permitted by steam gifts)
  3. If his from steam traades how many +rep and -rep he haves?
4.He said he would fix your issue? Or just loggedout and blocked you?

I just looked and he has indeed blocked me. Looks like I was scammed. Had good rep on csgolounge and a lot of good rep from several high level accounts on his steam profile.

Yes, I was stupid. As I've said, I rarely trade. I had no idea you even could delete them from your profile. I guess you live and learn :)

Wow man I feel so sorry for you :/, What I can do add you to my whitelist, I don't create too many GA But I have 1 Running right now.

Also don't believe too much on Steam +reps also there are a lot of High level Steam scammers.

As well there are a some great and honest traders out there. When you try to trade again trade ONLY with High +rep users. I have like 50+ Rep I don't trade that much. But all of them I can recommend.

So you traded for a Key, which is not in your region? So do you have a working key in a different region?

The problem is that maybe that key in't even Fallout 4. And may be used.

Ouch, if it was an actual working key, it wouldn't be so bad, as that way, you could just try and sell to someone in the right region. If it doesn't work, at all. Or isn't even the right game, I actually feel really bad.

ROW (also sometimes displayed as WW) is the universal version of a game.
NA, US, UK, and EU are, in practice, also always region-free and uncensored.

The ONLY feedback that matters when trading is SteamGifts or Barter.vg feedback ratings.

Steam profile comments are an absurdity and serve no purpose other than for scammers- or more specifically, it's a facebook wall that people somehow associate with trading, despite no actual association to such (in fact, Valve discourages out of Steam trading, so it isn't as if they'd facilitate it).

Make absolutely certain to report the individual for scamming through Steam itself- while Valve will not refund your lost items [unless they were traded through Steam itself, in which case you've got a chance], they will suspend an account if it gets multiple scam reports against it.

We've all been where you are, unfortunately. :/
Thankfully we've got two places to look to, for assessing someone's legitimacy-
Once we stumble our way into these sites after our first few unfortunate encounters, anyway. :X

As far as the key you have-
I'd try and see what region the 'trader' is from.
Start with the assumption that the key is locked to that region.
See if anyone from that region is willing to trade for a potential Fallout key, here on this site.
Send your key to them first, let them see if it works, and what game it gives.

Of course, since you used a non-reputable site, there's no telling if the key will eventually be revoked or not- so that has to be a risk the individual is willing to take, on top of everything.

So unfortunately, even if the key is partially legitimate, you're unlikely to get a decent trade for it :/

In such cases, does the Steam client indicate which region you need to be in when attempting to activate the key?

It does not. However, in most cases, it's either from Russia or Brazil. There are exceptions but more likely than not, the key came from one of those two regions.

To add to the post above me, there is chance for it to be SEA (bought in Indonesia most likely). But if I had to add chances from thin air, I'd say 60% CIS, 35% Brazil, 5% other region.

How does that region stuff even blocking you from activating? by IP? if thats the case then use a VPN, you could be anywhere in the world >.>
but all in all the whole "im going to bed" story and being blocked means it was 100% a scam, i wouldnt even look twice at that key, why would it even be a game?

weve all been scammed, i dont trade unless they go first OR they have a super huge showing of support like for instance the two trades ive made so far with users on this site, i recorded the transaction because if they did so happen to screw me over (maybe because im a new guy and whos gonna believe me right?) i knew i was going to bury them and their years and rep on this site would be demolished

ive seen those sites like g2a and yeah they got a big numbers and 100% trust and blah blah blah, but if its anything i know its that anything on the internet could be made up

Fallout 4 from Russia, assuming this key is even Fallout 4, is run locked to RU/CIS. You can't play the game unless you live in RU/CIS region at all.

that i understand, but if they are basing "location" by IP (im not sure how else they would do such a thing) then that is easily spoofed, i am waiting to get my hands on a key that is non US so i can try out activating it sometime

Yes, it is easily spoofed but using a VPN to activate region locked games is firmly against the ToS. Use at your own risk.
