I really don't know what to do with you.
Steamworks games are a type of DRM that all the keys, retail or not, activate on Steam.

Not true.

Kingdom of Amalur is a Steamworks game (it has Steam Achievements) but all keys do not redeem on Steam. On the contrary they seem to only redeem on Origin and the only way to get the Steam version is to buy from Steam.

KoA is not Steamworks game. Achievements != Steamworks

As madnessnewb stated, it is not Steamworks, since it is published by EA.
All of the Steamworks games activate on Steam, even Prey.

There is no other way to play it, you have to redeem it on Steam if you have the PC version

So the retail version really does activate on steam?

Yes it does. I don't have the case right now but it is mentioned that you need a free Steam account to activate and play the game.
