Is this going to be the average price on PS4 AAA games? Amazon has both Watch Dogs, Theif and AC4 listed as $100 USD. Little bit less (£60) off this site. Any idea if this is the final price? I hope not, may raise the price of PC games.

That's what'll happen if they keep this price. Nobody will buy games for $100 each.

Eight because a forth the planet is stupid, and half of them have enough money to actually afford to buy these things.

Yes, those are the stupid people, which are included in the count. :)
The kind of people that will trade in a car they are still paying off, for a new car, because 1.) Its new, and 2.) The monthly payment is lower. Yet they fail to account for the car that they now dont have and are still paying for.

Yes, show them that you wont support them and their creations by doing the very thing they blame for lost sales.
You could just.. you know, not. Wouldnt it be a shocking message if they dont sell many copies and when they try and blame piracy instead of their shitty price tactics or gameplay, they find it wasnt downloaded much at all?

I didn't mean that I'll start to pirate everything,day-one,etc....but I may end up doing it after some time.
I'm not going to pay that much for a game as I am today.

Awfully expensive placeholder. Typically amazon auto prices them at 60 as thats been the agreed upon retail price for games for a decade. I also doubt its the actual price though since thats an awfully big jump. They would do 69.99 if they were to raise prices IMO unless they are adding in the final cost now... I digress, idk.

Ugh, I hope not. $100 games sounds scary.

Sure, it might be on PS4, but that sort of price tag might show up on PC as well.

I mean, ffs, people are already fed up with $60 games!

Not fed up enough to stop buying them though along with their dlc, and season passes, and online passes, and server fees, and character packs and so on. Even with all the hype about piracy and such, games are making more money then in the past.

Fair enough. I usually see complaints about the price tag.

I still suspect that seeing a $100 tag might drive them away this time.

Would be nice. But for all we know its just a simple place holder/ early price gouge attempt at a new release. I do suspect a price increase will appear, but 40 extra dollars for the base game + DLC is a lot higher then most could handle. Best to wait and see IMO.

There hasn't been a 67% inflation. Inflation is very small percentages, like <5%. It would be the difference of the game costing $60 and the game costing $63.

Price will be the same as ps3, they already told that. Why would games increase the price? Since i remember (sega saturn) this was the price, everytime people say it increases but no (at least in my country 60€ is the normal price since always). Don't know what they are doing with that price mistake but is mistake for sure.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Xbox and PS2 games were 50 each. N64 games were 40 each brand new. Price increase is to be expected as games, supposedly, become more complicated to make, distribute and so on, add inflation and its to be expected. Whether or not they sell at the higher price point though is in question each time.

That's why i told "my country", here that is price since the begining... I have the prices, even in another currency at the time, on the cover of the games so know that xD

I doubt these are the final price for a base game tbh. The fact that a smaller site has it listed at 60 Euros would IMO add to that assumption. Its easier to see 60 Euros = 60 USD like steam does and others, then a 100 USD base game.

Atari 2600 games used to go for between 40-60 apparently, with all the complaints of games these days, at least they give you more for your buck then they did 30 years ago.

Idk, mario, Zelda, pokemon, and tons of other older generation games offer replay value to this day that rivals that of current AAA games on any system. Probably dropped 1k hrs into pokemon back when the first gen popped out. Compared to say MW, Black Ops, Bioshocks, Dead Space, Prototypes, Portals, where I might have tossed in 400hrs COMBINED. Hell, I think Ill go get a rom for pokemon right now...

Ofc not, they're gonna bloat them with DLC, Premium and shizzle to cover up their prices while making you believe its still 60.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You know, they might find it more profitable if they just sold the game at 100 bucks and threw in all the DLC with every copy. No season pass bs, no 100 dlc items, online passes etc. Its just novel enough to work isnt it? Of course, no game studio in their right minds would do this for fear of their stock holders revolting or something but its worth dreaming about.
100 bucks for a complete game instead of the 120+ required now? Such a great deal IMO.

i read an article somewhere probably its gonna raise but they will provide free dlc for people. Its like im selling a 60$ dollar game but ihas 40$+ dlc content that you can purchase then ill give you a game worth 100$ but it will have all the dlc season pass included etc etc (even for non preorder); cant remember much of it but they implied games have become part of a luxury rather than just pure entertainment

Depends on the game. I can see some games that could be worth the 100 bucks more so then most games are worth 20. I mean, from a strict enjoyment over time ratio compared to say, the movies, games like Saints Row, or Fallout, STALKER are up there.
There are plenty of examples of very expensive entertainment options, such as concerts or sports tickets can cost many hundreds of dollars. Its all comparative.

PC games cost just as much as console games mate. Yes, we get sales more so then consoles but still. Any price increase to our console peasants will travel up to us PC master race members.

And dont say pirating, because that just gives them a justification for why they didnt sell their game instead of blaming their price/game.

I don't know why everybody is complaining, console games are always more expensive than PC, just because these PS4 games are expensive, it doesn't mean that PC version will be.
And I hope this price will be final, I don't like consoles anymore. Just the exclusives force me to play them.

not surprising considering in order for Sony to attract anyone to the console they have to take a massive loss on their systems. Very few people will be wiling to pay $500-$700 for a system. Then there are controllers (if the dualshock 3 is like $40-$50, imagine the price of dualshock 4), and games, and accessories... it's going to be ridiculously expensive.

I believe I heard Sony wasn't planning on taking a loss with the PS4, IIRC, because they've been bleeding money for a couple years now.

I can't remember if that's correct or not, so don't quote me.

Their games department is only making a profit. Yes they make a loss for every console they sell, but they are making more profit then loss by the games and PSN.
