Hey kids! Have you found any good small indie productions or hidden gems lately?

I have here a very underrated arena hack and slash I really like, Akane. Unfortunately, I can't gift users outside South America so it's Region Restricted, sorry :(
Anyway, here:

Do you often look for underrated indie games on Steam?

View Results
Nah, I only play mainstream AAA blockbusters
I used to enjoy looking for indie hidden gems, but the shovelware on Steam makes it almost impossible now
I (still) enjoy browing through Steam new releases looking for hidden gems
I like potatoes and I like games

I don't look for them on Steam, but I find most when looking at bundles, trades, and just conversations on here, Discord, and reddit.

Looks intense. Last indie gem I played was https://store.steampowered.com/app/735290/Genesis_Noir/

Played this recently Gemini: Heroes Reborn.
It's a really fun fps, except you can't shoot and have to neutralize the enemies with your abilities. Almost like an indie systemic sim.

I sometimes like to look for "hidden" gems, or games from indie companies. Sometimes 2d, more recently like Steamworld Dig, some others 3d, like Apsulov (dรณn't know how hidden that is, but it is an absolute gem).

Anyways, thank you so much for the giveaways :D.

I also think Spirits Abyss and Creepy Castle deserve some love. Alien Squatter is completely trippy, not for everyone, but definitely.... it's something. HOUSE OF GOD is another weird-but-awesome underrated game. It's like a pastel Hotline Miami.

Idk if it's a hidden gem but Necrobarista was pure joy for me from start to finish (it's a fully linear VN with really lovable characters).

I haven't played much recently, but I'm always looking for hidden gems out there, I feel like giving an opportunity to indie games is the best way to go (ofc AAA games can be nice but sometimes they lack the love most indie developers put into their creations imo)

Looks like a good one!
I used to browse on Steam but yeah shovelware (and the limit to the ability to ignore "devs"!) has made it hard to impossible to find gems there.
I now have to rely on the kindness of strangers, curations, youtube channels and a few websites, to find those underrated gems, as well as giveaways here that point to goodies.

RIVE immediately comes to mind. It's a really nice and challenging "twin-stick shooter" (Well, I used keyboard and mouse so no sticks for me. :D ) with humor and a fair number of video gamey references, by the same devs that made Toki Tori and EDGE (which are also probably rather obscure nowadays). I guess the main reason no-one's heard of the game is because, as far as I know, the studio closed down shortly after making it (they knew they were shutting down but went out of their way to finish it anyway) so I guess it was kinda lacking in the word of mouth department.

I'm don't really know how "hidden" they are but the Creeper World games are a very unique take on Tower Defense/Offense.

Speaking of non-standard Tower Defense, Space Run is another really interesting one. This one is also pretty funny on top of that. ^_^

Hmmm, anything else... well, I'm always surprised at how few people seem to know about Rabi-Ribi. I mean, yeah, it's a metroidvania platformer in which the boss fights have bullet hell elements. That's probably the reason. But if people would actually try it out, they'd find an amazingly bright and cheerful game which put a ton of details in its metroidvania elements.

Speaking of metroidvania platformers- The Messenger is another really really good one. And it's very funny to boot. :)

I should really stop before I just start listing indie games. :X
Oh, but I can't not mention CrossCode because while I have no idea how "hidden" it is I have to recommend it! Always. :D

I generally play indie games, though hidden gems depends on what community you hang out with ;)

Just played The Gardens Between yesterday, cute little game.

Not a recent game, but I recently played it, so that counts, right?

Satisfactory isn't exactly a hidden gem, but it's become my favorite game in my library.

Can't enter due to region restriction but less than a minute after looking at the steam page I now own Akane, so thanks for the giveaway!

I've had Akane in my backlog for quite some time. I really should get around to trying it someday...

And I can't pass up one of these threads without plugging TAMASHII. Cool little horror/glitch puzzle platformer from a solo Brazilian dev, with some excellent (if unsettling) pixel art. Short, but it packs in a lot of story and surprises.

I try to find hidden gems but it doesn't usually go well.
I think this game counts as one, it's the first game I ever 100% and started me on my path to completionism.

EDIT: It's also currently 80% off.
