Can't believe they're censoring my stuff just 'cause I'm trans, we need to start another gamergate!

Nah, but this was actually a fair banning, (unlike the screenshots of mine they deleted!) It's just very surprising, considering how much steam doesn't care about regulating a whole lot of their site, and how stupid some of their bans have been, specifically for this game. I guess they just give free reign for devs to decide what content gets to be on their community page, so ban anything that does't make the game look good or like an overwatch clone. Can you tell I'm still salty about this?

I would have understood them banning this while it was at the top of the reviews, but why now? I guess it was inappropriate and deserving removal, unlike all the comments I received for it.

Anyway, review, and a ga

This is the reason why I stopped making reviews and deleted all of the reviews I had made, including the hostility of other users towards the reviews. I mean, sure, most of them were something as basic as "I enjoyed this game.", so not really a review, because since Steam doesn't have a rating system this is the way that I would let people know if I enjoyed a game or not without having to write a 1000-word essay. But still, "I enjoyed this game." gets on their nerves?

And if Steam disapproves so much of "unhelpful" reviews, why do they even encourage everyone to write reviews? There was a sale a while ago where they offered cards for people who would write a review for a game or something. Did they think we are all professional writers? Did they really not foresee that people would just write anything they wanted to get the cards? If you don't want sugar on your car maybe you shouldn't give your passengers candy to eat...

but saying something generic, like "I enjoyed this game" and not giving any reasons why, if someone is trying to decide whether or not to make a purchase, can be aggravating to said person.

And how is that my problem? If what allows you to decide whether or not to buy a game is Steam reviews, maybe you should re-evaluate your method of buying games. There are many professional reviewers outside of Steam that you can read, if you're the type of person that relies so much on other people's opinions on something to decide if you also like it or not.

And even if it "aggravates" said person, they can just go find another review that they consider helpful without being hateful.

woah, I'm not trying to attack you, i'm just trying to rationalize the response some people might have to a review like that.

And I responded to that rationalization with my rationalization about it. I wasn't referring to you when I used "you", I was speaking in general.

You ask, "why now"? My guess would be, Steam's just slow. I wouldn't be surprised, if it was reported by someone quite a while ago, landed in some queue for Steam moderators and someone worked up a bit of that queue only just now. Just a guess, I may be wrong but Valve's not exactly known for their extremely fast and accurate response.

As for the review itself, I actually like it, because it pretty much points out in one sentence all that review madness. Every time you buy something anywhere, they tend to ask you to write a review (not just on Steam) it's like a plague. Everyone is constantly nudged to share their opinion, everyone can be a critic, a curator an expert of some sorts - or so they think. Don't get me wrong, not all reviews are bad, some are actually helpful, but in general I think it's too much.

A year and a half delay seems WAY too fast for a Steam support response, so we'll have to assume there was another basis for it. :P

Perhaps the developer got tired of seeing it toplisted, reported it themselves, and that got it fasttracked?
Perhaps the moderator was feeling whimsical? Perhaps they use pure RNG to determine which reports to respond to?
Perhaps aliens?

You realize that you're the one bitching, right?

And speaking of poor life choices, if you're getting so distressed and angry over stupid jokes on the internet or certain members of a community, I suggest taking a break from the internet of distancing yourself from this community. I've done it several time before, it really can be quite helpful.

I suck at writing reviews I just want a badge tbh.

And why does this deserve to be banned? I've seen much worse reviews, stupid reviews, irrelevant reviews, reviews with cooking recipes, even reviews that include death threats, but they hadn't been banned. So, why ban this one? I'm not saying it's a good review, but I'm just saying that there's no reason to ban it. Why is it against the rules?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You are right, but just because other similar and worse reviews are not banned YET, doesn't mean that they won't get banned in the future. There are more than 10,000 games on Steam. I haven't seen a game with less than 2 reviews. Steam just introduced a new rule about Steam reviews not counting toward the Positive/Negative score of a game, if you got the game outside of the Steam Store. My guess is that they are just starting with the review moderation.

And imagine how much work that is going to be for the (maybe just few) moderators who are reading and moderating reviews?

Anyway, "I suck at writing reviews I just want a badge tbh." isn't a game review and reveals nothing about the game and maybe that's why it has been banned. On the other hand, no specific reason was given as to why precisely the ban happened, so that could have been improved. (even if it was a PM to the user).

I don't know. To be honest I haven't read the ToS since 2014... All I am saying is that those shouldn't be considered reviews...

I think this is a good thing that such "reviews" are finally getting banned. It doesn't matter who you are to be honest, but you saying in the beginning that they banned your review because you are trance as a joke, may sound like saying "i'm vegan and I have to let everybody know". The information was unnecessary and not everybody would get that you said it carefree and as a joke. See how that shifted the focus of the review and its ban to that first sentence you wrote about being trans? There is nothing wrong with that of course, but I can see why people in the forums here might get annoyed at the redundant info.

And I see that you want attention, but mostly for why Steam banned your review this late, when its not even popular, while others seem to "get away with it". Well, from my observations they didn't check reviews before and are just starting to (due to the recent change that People who didn't bought the game from the Steam store, won't have their reviews count toward the scoring, such as Positive/Negative review). Steam is just starting and I am sure that in due time, many other "reviews" will get banned. Have to read the ToS as before reviews the system consisted of much shorter "ratinsgs" or something (2013).

I'm well aware of how some people will take the joke. Now my thread will actually get bumped my my harem of haters, and mods might have to deal with the comments, since they won't give me an adequate response to another thing, I'm glad to make more work for 'em.

And if steam has recently started reviewing reviews, than that's cool.

Well, if you are acheiving an effect you desired - good job!
And yeah, if the reviews are being moderated would be wonderful, but to think of it, its more wishful thinking than reality. Time will tell, but your review might have been reported back in 2016 by users or the dev and being reviewed just now. I don't expect much of Steam, but hopefully they will filter the reviews a bit. Future will show...

That doesn't make sense
how do they know you are a trans in the first place???
why would they ban your review JUST BECAUSE you are a trans??
your review isn't even a review ,why would you complain you got the badge that's what you wanted in the first place right?
you didn't actually care about the review why do you care now that they banned it ?

It's a sad indictment on the community that so many people voted that review as helpful or funny. It probably had to go in order to restore some credibility to the user review system. I want to know why it is impossible to directly report review comments for violation of the rules and guidelines.

That is indeed sad. And you could always copy the URL page, and write a report from the person's profile page, linking to a comment that support the thing you are trying to report him/her for. I know that is just an alternative and not what you are asking for, but its what we have for now.

I don't think they actually respond to individual reports on profiles, instead waiting for reports from multiple people to confirm that they are indeed behaving deplorably. I reported someone on 24 December 2016 for writing "kys u fucking moron" on one of my reviews and nothing has happened yet.

I report them but I don't delete the comments or prevent further comments. I feel that their comments reflect far more poorly on them than they do me, and prefer to let them remain as testaments to their shameful character and intelligence (there are always spelling and grammatical errors to accompany the vitriol).

Yeah, it's quite sickening. Some tool is currently using the comments of a video about a game developer speaking out against the toxic gaming community (the developer's views were supported by the presenters) to explain why game developers deserve to be abused (while telling me that I'm stupid and insane).

Unfortunately, wit doesn't hold much power over the witless and logic doesn't work very well on the irrational. Internet debates are okay if you want to collect insults, but only if you value quantity over quality. A lot of people seem to have gone to the Jerry Springer Show guest school of debating, because they apparently believe that the person that shouts loudest and/or last wins, regardless of what they say.

That was funny. Review or not though, I wonder if their review system shouldn't be more structured. They could have a tiered/point system and instead of positive/negative overall a game could have ratings for various criteria.

It is nice to have a laugh every now and again when reading through reviews. :)

I've always kinda felt that the review process on Steam was flawed and far too laborious. I don't have to write a review on IMDB to add to the aggregate score for a movie I just click a button that goes from 1-10 stars and I move on. Or if I want to rate a game on the App Store on IOS I can just tap a number I don't have to explain my reasoning or write a critical analysis that shows that my insight on a video game is valid and proves that my opinion matters. I have written reviews on IMDB for films I felt passionately about and I have written reviews on the App Store when I think a game stands out from the rest of the pack (like Ananias, which I am actually in as my IRL self)

I can't think of a single website that is as demanding as Steam is for people to rate a product. If it's an attempt to cut down on rigged scores it is a very lazy way of going about that. And if it's more than that, if it is some kind of way to gauge the validity of a peron's opinion I find that to be downright offensive and elitist. I shouldn't be asked to provide proof that my opinion matters on whether or not I liked a freaking video game.

I shouldn't have to justify myself in anyway, just like OP shouldn't have to justify herself to any of the jerks that decided to lash out at her. She doesn't need to explain herself or work to earn your approval or acceptance or do anything to help you feel less insecure.

You should be able to vote thumbs up or thumbs down without having to enter a single character of text and anytime someone tries to sidestep their BS review system they have done nothing wrong.

PS - This is the first comment I've made on the site in months.
PPS - Sorry if I'm a little too worked up I'm just totally devastated from Avengers Infinity War.
