Can you remove this comment? I haven't played the game, and I certainly would consider this a spoiler.

Epic is giving away games from devs, that publish new games on the store.
I guess we will see more indie games in future and later prob. some 2k or gearbox release. Also I could imagine some Klei Singeplayer like mark of the ninja in future.
There arn't many big publishers that release on epic atm...
But overall I think the free games are all good games, even if it's not all my genre.

Same here. I just got hyped when I saw the Steam page for Maneater as I like underwater games and sharks.... and slightly disappointed when I learned this would be on Epic first for a year. But yeah, I'll most likely play the waiting game when it gets on Steam... I like 75% off sale. ;)

They aren't going to keep giving away free games that sell. It made sense at the beginning because it was a fresh new promotion. Now we are in the middle of it so they are going to slow down with the pricey titles. Watch when the end of the year comes around and all the stores are promoting heavily for the Christmas season, epic is going to start giving away free bigger titles again.
Epic isn't going anywhere

But they don't. They did that in the beginning and stated it was a bug. There is a function that should only work with your consent. We can discuss whether this was intentional or not, sure. If I had to guess, I'd say it is likely that it was an actual mistake. Something like this is so easy to find out and creates such negative press - it probably was a simply fuck-up from one of the developers. Fact is, it has long been fixed. So the statement that they "rob steam data" simply isn't true (anymore).

I could be wrong though, but I remember a statement saying that it was part of an old client thingy. And they forgot about it.
Ofcourse possible. But why put it in, in the first place?
Wasnt it also that there wasnt even an option to opt-in or out about this?
I dont remember the exact details, only the fact it was there and the huge backlash, I just pilled it among the other facepalm epic stuff.
(just to be clear, i am not an epic hater, I was glad at the first announcements that they wanted to compete with Steam, competition is always good. But in my opinion they are doing it in the entire wrong way. Exclusives especially the crowdfunded onces, a sale where on what I heard about it the devs didnt know about, etc.)

And despite the fact that they fixed their screw-up, now they're passing along my EGS username (though perhaps indirectly) to my Steam friends that request it. I've had a couple invites already, and I've never given EGS the "okay" to pass along my username/profile/whatever to anyone.

Contrary to most people's opinion, I thought the game was very tedious and boring even though it's pretty to look at. No real narrative draw either, just solving a bunch of random tedious puzzles. Worth a try at the free price though I guess.
