Can you remove this comment? I haven't played the game, and I certainly would consider this a spoiler.

Thanks, there is a thread about Epic free games.

It's a fantastic game. Took me around 9 hours to get 100% completion, and it was all enjoyable. Average playthrough is about 5-6 hours. I know that will sound pretty short to some people, but I think it was just right for the type of game it is.

That sounds perfect, not every game/genre can keep me engaged/stay fresh for longer periods of time.

Game from my steam wishlist, nice

RIME has been bundled 4 times. And often goes on sale for like $3 or so. Maybe Epic is losing their clout. Don't get me wrong it's a great game but it seems the games Epic has been giving away of late are quite simply, of lower monetary value. Subjective value is well... subjective. They go from games like Subnautica, What Remains of Edith Finch, Axoim Verge, Slime Rancher, The Witness and Transistor to World of Goo, RIME and Stories Untold? Games that have a markedly lower financial value?

I think I sense blood in the water.

Epic is giving away games from devs, that publish new games on the store.
I guess we will see more indie games in future and later prob. some 2k or gearbox release. Also I could imagine some Klei Singeplayer like mark of the ninja in future.

There arn't many big publishers that release on epic atm...
But overall I think the free games are all good games, even if it's not all my genre.

Don't say that, please. That reminds me they got Maneater (you play as a shark) as a timed exclusive. I hope it's gonna get discounted when it finally hits the Steam store.

All those games will likely receive discounts upon arriving on steam. I'm personally interested in Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, Hades, Control, Borderlands 3, Anno 1880, Industries of Titan, Observation, Outer Worlds, and yes, Maneater. In other words, a lot of them. (Wondering if Tripwire is working onKilling Floor 3 as well.)

But, it's a VERY rare occasion that I buy new releases and my backlog is immense. So, It's really no issue to wait for me. :D

Same here. I just got hyped when I saw the Steam page for Maneater as I like underwater games and sharks.... and slightly disappointed when I learned this would be on Epic first for a year. But yeah, I'll most likely play the waiting game when it gets on Steam... I like 75% off sale. ;)

That was my initial reaction as well, but I calmed myself and realized that it's a free game. I just can't scoff at a free game, especially when it's a good one. Also, it's not like the Epic Games Store is overflowing with titles at the moment. We can't expect them to give us a Subnautica or Slime Rancher every 2 weeks.

My contention was moreso that one of the few reasons that people went to that client aside from playing exclusives seems to be dwindling in quality.

Fair enough. It's definitely a pattern that's worth pointing out. EGS haters have been so negative about the free games over the last month or so, and it's just such painfully weak ammunition. I guess I lumped you into that group without giving you fair consideration.

They aren't going to keep giving away free games that sell. It made sense at the beginning because it was a fresh new promotion. Now we are in the middle of it so they are going to slow down with the pricey titles. Watch when the end of the year comes around and all the stores are promoting heavily for the Christmas season, epic is going to start giving away free bigger titles again.

Epic isn't going anywhere

Never said they were going anywhere. Not to mention they already said they'd stop buying exclusives eventually. Making the platform largely irrelevant. Exclusives are the only reason people are using it at all beyond fortnite. I sincerely doubt that A LOT of people will continue to use the client once the game they are insterested in can be purchased somewhere else. Perhaps in-game items will become exclusive at that point. Provided another option, I'd be hard-pressed to see a customer choose a service that has no forums and minimal community features.

The fact that they rob steam data without permission (with epic client), and whatever else (didn't delve too deep in the topic at the time) sounds like spyware to me. And the steam part is confirmed by epic themselves...

Contrary to most people's opinion, I thought the game was very tedious and boring even though it's pretty to look at. No real narrative draw either, just solving a bunch of random tedious puzzles. Worth a try at the free price though I guess.
