I've only done key for game trading (With the exception of being scammed once). The new system seems to promote more scams in my opinion. With having to wait a month before you can trade the game itself. So people now seem to be sending the game as a gift. It seems more susceptible to being revoked right? What's a sure-fire way to purchase a game via paypal? Aside from trading with those with high +rep. I'm looking for methods you guys use to go about it. Thanks pals!

There is no safe way to trade a game for paypal money. All you can do is to minimize the risk - make sure trader is well known trader with lots of positive feedback, make sure it's not imposter profile you're trading with, if offer seems too good to be true it probably is.

Still there is no safe method that will protect either you or seller from scamming each other, as paypal does not consider digital good trading when you file a claim (to fight chargeback you need to provide them with photo of fake physical good as a buyer or scan of shipping goods via mail etc if you're a seller).

Wasn't sure if there was a way to put the payment is for digital goods to prevent anything from happening or not. Thanks for clearing it up.

The notes section in the send payment page is usually used for that, though whatever is written there doesn't really matter to Paypal if you decide to contact them about the transaction.

exactly what Mew2 said - payer may write in anything - make it a gift for a family, writing in he already received goods, say he won't demand chargeback - and all it takes for him to get said chargeback is to contact PP saying account got hijacked. Talking from personal experience - lost my 1st PP account after I got scammed for 450$ while selling my old WoW account when I was quiting the game ;p

I suppose I should just bite the bullet and spend the extra $20 rather than losing out on $45

Just use a well repped trader and you'll be fine (rep above 200 preferably).

There is no sure-fire safe way to trade, using keys, paypal, or anything else. Even if someone has high rep it can be faked (either by impersonation or by asking people to just leave rep in exchange for something and not by trading), or they could decide to steal from you just on a whim. I've seen it happen many times.

Tbh i would avoid trading with paypal ... no matter how good the offer is , there is always risk ... even with a trader with 3 thousand milion positive rep .
Middle of the way solution is to use the money and buy TF2 or CS keys on the community market , most of the times you can get games alot cheaper using them as a trade courency ... aside from that ... you can always buy it directly from steam i guess .

Or check allkeyshop for better deal .

if you get csgo/tf2 key on community market they are trade locked as well and you still cannot trade using them unless you wait ;p

well , yeah ... a week .
But most reasonable people who trade stuff are willing to w8 if you present them with a nice offer .

And in general you can save up to 40/50% on non bundle games just buying them with keys.
But again thats just an option.

ig the game is on current promo chances are high that trader will sell all his copies long before this week passes. Also if you buy 1 week after promo, aka buying last copies traders have from this promo, prices will already be higher.

Also I wouldn't say that "in general" you can save 40-50% on non-bundled games nowadays. Not with most of the world region locked and if you want to stick to buying gifts for safety (if you're buying a key you already risk, so whole point of our discussion here ends ;p). Surely - there are cases of price errors - like recent Resident Evil error in NZ, but other than that in general non bundle games differ between ROW regions by ~20%, not 50% like you said.

as i sayd it depends who you are dealing with.
I had bunch of trades with people who ware selling stuff on promo.

if the guy is reasonable enough you can just ask him to save you a copy ... most people actually dont mind that :)
you tell him you can trade with him 100% after a week , and ppl are cool with that , i had only 1 guy who had trouble with that ( cause he needed to sell his stuff fast for other trade ) so your argument is kinda invalid here .

as for the 50% off pricess ... duno...
Lets take my recent purchuasses for example.
Alice madness returns its 10eu i got it for like 4.4 ~ Sakura spirit is also 10Eu i got it for 4.4 aswell .
I dont really care if the game was on sale like half a year ago , and the guy just had spare copies that no one bough ....
Looking @ current market pricess , compared to what you actually pay you can easy get 50% off the game price.
ofc if you have alot of spare time in the day you can find better deal , also if you look into recent sales you can bargain abit more on the price ... but most people have a Job and stuff , and dont have time for that. And cutting 50% off the market price is enough for them :)

yeah if you w8 for a sale you might get it even cheaper , but who have time for that , i dont for sure :)

Alice was for 2.49Eur on many many ocassions - paying 4.4 for it you got just ripped off ;) Sakura is for 2.99 atm, was 3.X cheapest before so this seems a better deal ;) but if you're considering instant PP purchase from a trader (like OP is) you must consider the game being on sale either now or very recently. If it was on sale 3 months ago last time small delay won't mean nothing to you, but if it's on sale right now you must be aware that before your keys got tradable the game from trader will rise in price already.

i guess you and i have diferent ways of looking @ things...
As i sayd there are different people ... you can just Ask a person if he can keep you the game for a week ... most people srsly dont mind.
And almost all of the ones that dont mind , are not asshole to ask you for higher price then what you talked about in a week .
Yeah obviously the trade price of the game will rise after the sale its done , but that doesnt mean that you cannot just talk to people and ask them if they are okay with w8ing a week :)

Not to mention the cheapest alice was in the last year was 5$ ... but anyway i just gave an option ...

As for Sakura Spirit , well i bough the game , played it ... then it went on sale ... bad luck with this 1 :)
But who care anyway , i remember buying Go!Go!Nippon directly from steam for 10Eu and it went in a bundle like a week later for 1$ :)

Depending on the users, there are trustful ones and others not, I bought games via Paypal a few times like more than 1 year, and all was good, but I carefully picked the traders.
