I think the Autumn Sale 2022 and Black Friday 2022 are mixed up... it would make more sense and follow previous years' trends for Autumn range to be Oct 28 - Nov 1 and Black Friday range to be Nov 24-30.

we're both incorrect
Autumn has always included Black Friday on Thanksgiving long weekend, event history is listed in the links
Black Friday changed to Halloween in OP, I confused it with Day of the Dead cuz me so smart 🤦🏼‍♂️
thanks for helping me to fix the confusion I caused :)

Changes to Steam Sales

Starting in calendar year 2023, we'll be replacing the Lunar New Year Sale with the Spring Sale as one of the four major seasonal sales.

Any word if this means Seasonal Sales cards like the recent Summer (Steam 3000) cards but for Autumn and Spring now?

I think historically there has only been Summer and Winter sale cards

we can only live in hope, because it's a major change, we won't know for sure (maybe) until the Autumn Sale

This is pretty good IMO, a bit further from the winter sale.

I saw that they said the reason for the change was that the lunar new year was too close to the end of the year sales next year. So I wonder if that means they'll forever replace it, being as in 2024 the lunar new year is in February, and in 2025 it's in March. It would be a pity to lose it altogether as they used to bring fun themed community items.
I mean we might miss out on a Rabbit in a blanket club next year.

rabbits lay chocolate eggs in Spring, the grass is plushy, carrot tops are sweetest, and blankies feel more soft and cuddly
I'm sure they have a host of ideas planned, like a pope on a stick puppet, pic-a-nic baskets and baby animals
The Baby's ;)

Haha, Pope emoticons might go down a treat.
But I guess rabbits and spring do actually go together, so maybe we'll still get the usual lunar new year emoticons, with the rabbit doubling up for both events.
And I would never have got the reference in the first video, without the second link so thank you

It's always felt strange to me that there are no major Steam sales between July and November... and then they have two sales back to back, with the Winter Sale starting about 3 weeks after the Autumn sale ends. I've always thought the Autumn sale should be moved to late September or early October.

Pretty sure, as an american company they want to have sales at Black Friday and during the holidays.

I'm sure that's true. I've always thought it would make more sense to have a single sale that covers both Black Friday and Christmas, instead of two different sales three weeks apart.

US retail events focus on impulse purchases to maximise profits, logic doesn't make as much money 😄
considerable psychological studies and marketing research led to this highly successful strategic ploy
also resulted in more impulse buy items (ie earrings) at checkout counters and "would you like fries with that?"

if separate events didn't increase Steam's bottom line, they wouldn't do it, it makes more cents not sense
sales from the new Lunar New Year event dwindled, so they've dropped this third wintery, but Autumn(BF) has remained strong
Spring Sale just happens to accidentally, by sheer coincidence, be stocktake sale season, when tax rebates arrive
Summer Sale coincides with the end of the school year, when parents splash dosh
it's about when consumers spend the most, a stupid amount, even going into debt offsetting any discounts
ie 20%/mo interest doubles the cost in 4 months

the comedic mad rushes in movies about BF, XEve and Boxing Day, unfortunately depict reality
same in Adelaide, but tamer, except when Le Cornu had special annual sales that many camped for days ahead
I still get a silly stupid creeping fear that BF discounts will be out of stock in the Winter Sale
fortunately, as a kid, I saw retailers rewrap candy and goods after hours, for each month's seasonal event
to combat impulse buying, I use ITAD with -33% set as the proper full retail price for AU
