I wouldn't really consider them open world though. It's more a bunch of open levels connected to each other. I guess it's close enough though now that I think about it.

Personally, I prefer Morrowind as well (didn't vote for it, though...) but would favor Skyrim as the engine is more powerful, responsive and less prone to random bugs or exploitation of in-game mechanics. What's more, it runs smoothly on my computer whereas Morrowind often encounters compatibility errors.

That much aside, Morrowind does boast a unique setting, deeper lore and remains a nostalgic favorite of mine. For that reason, I'm hoping the Skywind project turns out to be more than a vaporware mod. Given the extent of the overhaul, even with a staff of volunteers purportedly bolstered to near eighty at this point, I'm pessimistic we'll see it released anytime soon.

Also, might as well be me who recommends adding Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura to the list.

...and what is Gothic 4? Do you mean Arcania? I thought the publisher disassociated it from the series after Piranha Bytes moved on to Risen and JoWood lost the license.

Ta, mate, I rather lost track of the series after Risen essentially became its spiritual successor.

Morrowind.

I played Oblivion first then Morrowind then Skyrim. I've played Morrowind GOTY more than the other 2 combined.
