Do you have your ship, the Jackdaw, yet ? In my opinion the naval battles are the most fun part. Other than that it's the Assassins Creed part that requires the least stealth.

Freedom Cry puts a little more focus on stealth. (but is not included)

Question; If I have redeemed this free game through ubisoft.com, and I buy its DLCs through Steam, will the DLC get implemented in the base game on Uplay?

You won't be able to buy Freedom Cry (the DLC, not the Standalone version) on Steam unless you own Black Flag on Steam so no.

Also Freedom Cry is not integrated into the main game. You start it seperately from the start menu like Jack the Ripper @Syndicate. It has a different protagonist too.

Thanks for the info and for trying this out. How about the other Steam DLC's then? Because shouldn't they all have codes that can be redeemed on Uplay? (Sorry, I don't have Uplay installed atm)
Also, would it work for all the DLCs, including Freedom Cry, if I buy the Season Pass through Steam instead and redeem its code on Uplay?

I just tried to buy the Season Pass on Steam (without owning Black Flag on Steam) and got the same error message like for Freedom Cry. I think beside a couple of DLC that are mislabled you generally can't buy DLC on Steam without owning the base game.

But unless you have Steam wallet you wanna spend I'd say just buy the Season Pass on Uplay because it's just 10โ‚ฌ instead of 20. Or if you wanna save a little extra money buy just Freedom Cry (it's 5โ‚ฌ on Uplay) because that's the only one that really adds something to the game. (took me ~ 20 hours to platinum Freedom Cry) and mayyybe the Illustrious Pirates Pack

The Time saver packs aren't necessary because you can get the blueprints and resources through sidemissions and some of those specially the diving missions are really fun to play anyway.

Blackbeards Wrath & Guild of Rogues add more multiplayer characters which look different and have new animations but don't play differently plus I assume multiplayer is more or less dead at this point.

The Illustrious Pirates Pack adds 3 missions to the main game (which I think were part of various preorder editions) which are not bad but nothing mindblowing.

And last but not least Death Vessel and Crusader & Florentine Pack add more optical customization for your ship but you already have plenty of different sails and galeon figures to begin with.

Edit:

Because shouldn't they all have codes that can be redeemed on Uplay?

Sorry, I'm no expert on Steam / Uplay interaction and I played the game on XBox 360 so I don't know and can't test it out. Possibly...

Thanks a lot for your explanation. I'm kind of OCD'ish when it comes to having a complete game with its DLC's to get the full experience, unless they're timesavers ofcourse.

Googling my question gives some mixed answers. It differs per game and per DLC apparently, but most of them are a simple "no".

Bought AC on March 2009, played a few hours and stopped. Got AC 2 from Xbox Live Gold, played like an hour. Got AC 3 from Uplay and haven't installed it yet. AC 4 will likely suffer the same fate. Still, this series got more play time than most of my backlog.

Besides the unnecessary necroposting, I'm curious how I can verify this before reinstalling.

Ubisoft, as of last year, greatly culled featurws with the bulk of their older titles that not even the launcher has all of them anymore. I'm also skeptical because I'm not seeing an official announcement. This pack specifically was obtainable though one of the Deluxe upgrades, and the person who announced to the world about this claims they held the Season Pass instead, which is dubious. I'm not aware of any upgrades to the base game and I have no idea what they were referring to by claiming they had a release which didn't include full screen. Last time I played, I always played full screen in both past and future titles of the franchise without issue. Again, super skeptical.

EDIT: Also, while looking it up, the Gold edition includes the Season Pass AND the Aveline DLC. It's the only version they have now (besides the base game itself which I own). It's been years and things have changed within Ubisoft that I don't know how that reflects in the game. AFAIK if what I had remains unchanged, then it appears they recently bought the current version of the game, which itself is the Gold edition, do they didn't get it for free. somehow they had to buy the Season Pass separately (when it's actually included in the Gold edition), so that's where I'm overall still skeptical. I'll check when I get around to it if I have to physically confirm.

Also, for comparison out of curiosity, purchasing through the Unisoft store for the PS4 edition appears to have Gold edition as the only choice on the page itself, but the buy button directs you to the PS store anyway, where there are 2 editions of the game (one without Gold). Very weird.

I'm aware that is what they were talking about. But that is not the source. The only source for that is through a Reddit post by a person's observation, but the facts are dubious since there was no announcement before this. The Redditor basically went "Oh, hey. I just found this out..." and there wasn't any official channel mentioning if it was free. Ubisoft's own site says that's tied to the Gold edition, which is what I'm thinking they had, and for some weird reason bought the Season Pass at one time later. Gold edition owners have this, not base game.

EDIT: Also, and this might be important - the guy claims they have the 2015 edition of the game. I don't know if that was the latest version of the game, but I recall playing it around 2017 to 2018 because I obtained it when it was free (from this very prommotion in the thread) and that was solely the base game. I had full screen, so I don't know what kind of patch they're talking about that prevented them from getting that when I played fine with full screen.

I know up to a couple years ago, Black Flag ended up among the games earmarked for removal of most of the rewards through Connect as well as its multiplayer feature. In that time, I didn't get the DLC from what I could see while Connect was still functional until they completed the transition, and this was not part of the remaining reward packs that survived the culling. There was no implication any edition of AC upgraded to get DLCs, and I was still playing older AC titles during that period. No implication nor statement as such. This was a weird situation when they actually unlocked the in-game rewards (YMMV) without needing to use Units.

Not to mention, all I'm seeing that despite what's advertised for PS4, Ubisoft claims the base edition of the game is just the Gold edition which by now already includes it. I'm downloading now to check, but from my understanding, merely owning a copy doesn't quite mean my copy is upgraded. Again, there was no declaration despite the vague nature of how they handled the Connect conversion because they never stated whether you get DLCs apart from the reward system. That was and is now part of the current game, but I don't think it was automatically upgraded. I could be wrong, but this doesn't sound right.

EDIT 2: I ran the game. Nowhere do I have any such DLC that I can find. It looks as it does just as I left it last. The only thing different (as expected) was that the content stuff that was part of UPlay/store page is all gone. There is no DLC pack that can be obtained directly. Just the base rewards.

Now for further clarification, I got the game directly through Ubisoft. AFAIK, the Steam version itself is the Gold edition and it might've converted via that route. The Redditor didn't clarify whether this was through Steam, as that would be an important distinction. Otherwise, they are being dishonest and the media lapped that up without verifying from a rando's 2 day old post when Ubisoft never made any declaration.

As much as I would've loved for this to be true, my suspicions were confirmed and it is not true that editions were upgraded in any way except as already noted, and the doofus appears to have overlooked it the first time around. All I know is that the timeline of events as I know it didn't happen the way they described it that even in my situation, it never was upgraded. So, either they have the Steam edition and got lucky with that, or they literally bought what ended up being the Gold edition. Having the base game alone like I have shows nothing. Myth: busted.
