Hi all,

I try to learn more and more about steamgifts. Today I try with my first little sgtool-protected train [lvl2, ticket at the end]

But this is not my main issue. In the last days I saw a lot of giveaways created by darla13 and they often had historical events in the descriptions. We talked a bit about history and thought: Maybe history could be a topic for a new group. What do you think about this idea?

If you want to bump this thread please do it with a historical Event with its date between now an 29/4. You could post links, your own opinion about an event, gifs, Pictures and so on. All is welcome.

I will start with an event as an example: From 26/4 till 29/4/1994 the first general elections in South Africa were held. This marks the end of the Apartheid. The 4/27 is now a public holiday: the Freedom Day

I don't mind history, but the way it's taught in my school (elementary through high school) makes it more of a chore than something students would enjoy and learn from it.

It´s sad but true. To learn the dates of history is not the right way to teach students. Okay, there are some important dates that students have to learn. Because they are complete game changers, e.g. before or after trains arrived or before or after internet.

When you study history at university it is a complete different learning. It is more like puzzling. You have a question and then the search for sources begins. When you have found enough sources you begin to "draw a picture" of an Event, so that it becomes alive again.

Thanks for posting, but I have a little correction. ;-)

Porsche tried to own Volkswagen, but they bit off more than they could chew. This resultet in € 11,4 Billion in debts and today Porsche is part of the Volkswagen Group. (Volkswagen Pkw, Audi, SEAT, ŠKODA, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ducati, Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge, Scania and MAN)

Ooo, some strange things happening. Wikipedia indeed says Porsche is owned by Volkswagon.
I think I was looking at Volkswagon Group being owned by Porsche Automobil Holding SE. All owned by the Porsche and Piëch families apparently. So Volkswagon somehow both owns and is owned by Porsche. These companies just can't make things simple can they.

The Targowica Confederation- it was a confederation established by Polish and Lithuanian magnates on 27 April 1792, in Saint Petersburg, with the backing of the Russian Empress Catherine II. The confederation opposed the Polish Constitution of May 3, 1791, which had been adopted by the Great Sejm, especially the provisions limiting the privileges of the nobility.
