Point calculation

I read the sticky regarding points and how they are calculated. I still have a question about what I just saw though. There is a Legendary Giveaway (missed buying it) and I had 4 points. I was sitting here waiting to get enough points so I could enter. I hit refresh, and my points went from 4 to 0. Five minutes late, it went back up to 6.

This is what I was thinking. The odd thing is, I watched it tick up from 1, 2, 3, 4, then it dropped back to 0, then up to 6.
