sry. but i have no idea how that is related to what i'm asking ...

Scammers (often without a site account) will add random users and claim to be someone else, then get the stuff and do a runner. Hiding profile links from users not signed in is to make that more difficult.

So you're saying > someone with no account (scammer) will add someone on steam (victim) through their own sgifts profile ... then what? How would the scammer identify himself with no sgfits account, and why would any steamgifts-user believe/trust the other party without properly checking their steamgifts profile > which would have to backlink to the matching steam-profile?

thats what i typed myself ... :D
**(No need to mention steamrep.com, steam-enhanced and other means of identification. Those
who are prone to being scammed have usually no idea of their existence nor usage i'd daresay.)
while someone with a sgifts profile WILL check the other parties sgifts profile unless their incredibly "unknowing"

through the posts below, i know now what you mean now > yes agreed :-D
(was unable to relate)

They use the name of a well known user with high rep, and alter their profile to appear to be them to a new user. They don't go after experienced users, they go after the new users that will be easier to fool.
Seriously, you never noticed the topics complaining about such users? It happens too much already, this site is not going to make it easier for them.

I know, thats roughly the whole scam i was trying to point out ... yet i failed having the imagination that there are actual steamgifts users, that do not check the profile (= is it backlinking to the matching profile) properly or simply fail to discern the fake-matched steam profile).
But yeah that makes sense ... had a hard time imagining it since i did that from "day-1" on stg.
(that very scam attempt was tried on me unsuccessfully only a few times ~ 3 or so)

Its good that you check, but like I said, they do what they can to look like the original profile so people unknowning of the scam are more likely fooled. Its mostly new users that are targeted by it.

Yup you're absolutely right thanks for taking your time to explain ... had only those in mind without sgifts profile or no access, and that i can't prove my own sgifts-identy without any other tool/help to someone (other than being that guy with matching "traits" of course).

It's completely related. If you are banned, you can't log off from the site, only if you delete cookies. However, if you are just not logged in, you can use the site as usual, except you can't comment, and apparently can't see other users' Steam profile. It's a good way to keep off scammers from finding victims through SG.

... ok that i can follow - just had a hard time imagining why i'd care being added by any user with or
without sgifts account through my sgifts profile (since i, and lots of traders post their link even in trade-threads
|> meaning i'd be found anyway, by someone who would look through the trades)
^ those who add me that way get checked regardless and will have to "go first" anyway
(almost 0 risk for me, while yeah that could be a problem for other users ...)

Just to add little something to what other users already said - to register on SG you must have account with non-bundle games worth 100$+. Ofc some scammers may have access to multiple accounts like that, but at least few will not. Or will have just one account like tkat. They got caught, get banned, cannot see links anymore, cannot scam anymore unless they invest another 100$. And keep in mind that a lot of these impersonators are kids, ready to scam just for a bundle key sometimes, not really sitting on money themselves, so it's a good way to weed out at least this portion of scammer population ;)

Agreed, having access (100$+ value) is the bigger key to scam ... esp. since the site has to look out for its own users.

Why would there be no backlink-to-STEAM-Button on one's SG-profile when not logged in?
to my knowledge some people use links to steamgifts-profiles that aren't theirs for SCAM-attempts/identity-theft and show them to people who either don't have a steamgifts profile, or to those who can't enter due to not enough value > which they (victim) then either believe or not
once their scammed they usually bother (if able) to register and add negative rep to that steamgifts-profile they believe to have dealt with
having that BACKLINK to STEAM-PROFILE Button on the profile even when not logged in/registered > would make that and other scams less likely to happen (while i'd bet again, some would get scammed anyway through this very procedure regardless ...)
(solved)
Q: Why is there no [backlink-to-STEAM-profile]-Button - has that something to do with VALVE's or Steamgifts TOS?
(A: To protect the "sheep" inside steamgifts from those "wolves" outside [priority matters] - thanks to everyone for your replies.)
