Hello!

And to start of I'm going to mention, I'm not a techy person, I'm actually quite oblivious when it comes to it.
Stuff on a computer, software wise I'm decent with, but hardware, no way....

Basically, it's a simple question.
What games would a computer with these parts run?
I don't really care if I have to set graphics to minimum, don't even care if I can't run at 60 fps, I'm used to 30 fps on my current computer.
My current computer can't run any newer games.
I will add an SSD aswell somewhere down the line, but not right now hohoho.

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-6700 processor

Chipset/Motherboard(?): Intel® H170

Minne/Memory/RAM: 8GB DDR4, 2133MHz

Lagring/Storage/HDD: 1TB HDD, 7200 rpm

Grafikkort/Graphics Card: NVIDIA® Geforce GTX 970, 4GB

Ah uhm, will translate stuff hohoho.

Unless you run on a putato PC, don't get a new one until late 2016 or early 2017, when the new CPU and GPU families (with full DX12 support) are out.

As for your question: pretty much any contemporary game except Arkham Knight at full graphics in HD or medium/high in 1440p.

But the i7-6700 id unnecessary (get a 4690K or a 4790), and 16 GB DDR3 RAM is a lot more useful than some slightly faster, but smaller one.

I run a potato pretty much.

I'm also not into getting the best of the best, I've had my current computer for 6-7 years and just really need an upgrade due to a few games I'd want to try.

It's not really a question of best-of-the-best. The announced AMD CPU architecture so far promises like 80% performance increase, so even if in reality it is +20%, that is a lot; and Intel is expecting something similar in the new architecture.
As for DX12, it really can mean that the card you buy now… in two years, you can buy something for the exact same price ans +100% performance just because of hardware-level DX12 support.

Current high-range hardware can serve for 3-5 years, yes, but the expected leap in the new generation is going to be at least the same magnitude as switching from DX8.1 to DX9 was.

I dont believe that you should get 16gb ram. 8gb is plenty enought for every single game out there and you can always buy more later if you need.

Never seen why I'd need more than that.
I don't do video editing.
