So, I'm right at a month or so here, and have given away >30 games (just made level 2 this morning! Yea!), and finally did my first invite-only giveaway, but I'm still figuring out a few things.

My latest question has to do with SGTools checking. I am trying to enter a giveaway, and the rule states "num_sent_private >= 1." Is that referring to the # of invite-only giveaways I've created? Because, if so, I should qualify, but I keep failing on this rule. Is it referring to some other kind of private invite? Is there a glossary of these rules somewhere and what they actually mean so that I don't have to keep posting n00b questions in the SG discussions? ;)

Thanks for any help...

It has...I sent the key, and already got feedback...rule still isn't popping.

[And yep, I reloaded the SGT-based giveaway page.]

you can use the reply button to reply directly to the person. also no, your private (invite-only) giveaway will only end in 7 minutes.

It shows as "Awaiting feedback" for me. Once it's marked as received, you should sync your account on sgtools, looking at the website the option to sync is under "home"

Oh crap, I was looking at the wrong giveaway (I had another one going at the same time that was public).

Herp derp on my part. Man, I need to get more sleep or something.

Thanks for the heads-up, y'all. I'll try again as soon as feedback is received.

Sorry, I keep forgetting that this is a very international forum, and I tend to speak in a lot of US-centric slang. My apologies.

It's sort of an "inside joke" in the SG forum. )

From time to time, you will see someone will post the first line of the song, starting off a chain of responses. The other song you will see referenced in the SG forum is Bohemian Rhapsody (initiated with "Is this the real life?").

Try syncing your SGTools page as well. Go to the main URL, then Home and then Synchronize. Or visit the direct link. Same thing.

Yep. Once everything clears, SGT takes a bit to auto-sync. Likewise, sometimes Steam'll be glitching when it syncs to your account, and it won't get the correct information. Either way, any time SGT doesn't seem to be functioning as expected, manually syncing typically fixes things. :)

I think you just need a bit of time for everything to sync. Try again, later.

Also, as the only thanks I can really give here, I've whitelisted everyone who tried to help. :)

inform the n00b

That's usually a futile task. :P

noob does not, in fact, mean novice- that would be newb.

What it basically boils down to is that newbs are new to something, but willing to learn, whereas n00bs are new or really bad at something, but seemingly uninterested in learning, and often act disrespectfully. [>>]

Well, then I guess I should change the title to read "newb," because I'm willing to learn.

And I'm usually not disrespectful unless someone douches it up first...then the gloves are off. :D

Generally, people don't mind if you misapply the word to yourself [though 'incompetent idiot' tends to go over less well when applied to others :P], but I found the implications as-written to be amusing. :P

While usually noob is used as an insult by trolls in online games [ie, someone shoots you in an online shooter and mocks your character death to them by calling you a noob (and/or some kind of bigoted slur term)], it more functionally applies to the kind of players that enter an MMO, don't click to the mechanics, and instead of asking for help in chat, start screaming pay-to-win! in it (and refuse to have their opinion changed).

Of course, in the end, true gamers know that there can only be one true noob. :3
