The community manager at ea posted this

Hi everyone,

Last week, we emailed some Origin users in North America asking them to participate in an online survey, and offered a promo code for $20 off their next Origin purchase in return for completing the survey. Unfortunately, due to some misuses of the promo code, we had to discontinue its use early before its stated expiration date.

We wanted to clear up the confusion: all users that completed the survey will receive an email soon (in the next 1-2 days) which will contain a new code for $20 off a purchase of any EA game on Origin priced $19.99 or above.

Thank you again to all users that took the time to provide us with feedback about Origin.

So I decided to try and go take the survey now just in case:

"Thank you for your interest in participating in this survey for Electronic Arts. We’ve concluded this survey earlier than expected. Watch your email for more surveys from EA in the future. If you received an invitation to take this survey via e-mail, you will receive your exclusive discount code delivered to your inbox later this week. "

I'm pretty sure they did it on purpose. Digital content costs nothing, but on the other hand, they're getting a handful of new users... the result? Stock prices for EA are rising.

I just wish they'd kept the damn thing up just one more day, at least until Sunday night.

You are correct the point was to get people to come which it did, now me3 is 12$ and bf3 is $16 currently. People are going to buy because like me we humans see something cheaper than ordinary price range and grab it. Good move by them.

You get an email from them if you have an Origin (or Sims3) account. I think.

Edit: that's how I got it anyways

You also need to allow EA to e-mail you about special promotions (forgot how to do that)

Until I get my Spore: Creepy and Cute expansion, I hold the right to dislike EA! (Although, if they DID mess up again and I got the game, I would change opinions faster than Mitt Romney)

Why do they do all this for North America only? :-/ That and they ridiculous prices for my region, 50 euros for ME3, $50 for ME2 (steam) while America gets $30 and $20 respectively? F them .. I hope there's another accident on Origin.

ME3 £12.99 in amazon uk

It is the physical copy but I think it updates over the network as well.

If you feel like downloading and installing Origin to play their DRM garbage, go ahead. I don't agree with the principle of Origin so I'll stay clear thank you very much.

1 decade ago

How is Origin different from Steam, exactly? Only thing I boycotted was the scan your hardware, and software thing before BF3 was even released, they changed the ToS, so I don't see any problem with it.

Steam came first, that's my problem with Origin. I really don't like the idea of using two different services for games. Especially when Origin only has EA games. EA thought they could compete with Valve when in reality they never stood a chance. Their stubbornness annoys me, I've written off some of my favourite franchises such as Mass Effect and the Crysis series just because EA wants to force people to use their sub standard service.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Umm you could buy Crysis on steam you do know that right?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Given my obsession with Crysis, I think I do. I stated that I have "written off" the series, hence meaning I will not be buying Crysis 3 on Origin even if it's only on Origin.

"Steam came first, that's my problem with Origin."

That's not a problem with Origin. Do you know, that Steam wasn't great when it started too, don't you? And that at first it had only Valve games?
Steam also has DRM, maybe more restrictive in average than Origin.
You said, you wouldn't want to have all games on it, even for free. Even when Origin gets more titles from other developers? Because for sure it will get them.

Almost sounds as though you believe Origin will survive...

I'll quote myself AGAIN, "Steam came first, that's MY problem with Origin."

MY problem, as in Jonex's problem. Origin can't keep up with Steam. Instead they decide to just piss people off by releasing their published games exclusively through their dying service. I like my games in one place on one account where I can keep an eye on all of them and be part of a single community.

Back in the early days of Steam I was obsessed with Half Life 2. I downloaded and installed Steam just to play it, but things were different then. Valve were moving in a new direction and based on my interest in their games I decided to follow. Origin want a piece of the pie but are simply too late.

Steam have incredible sales, INCREDIBLE sales. Origin have "key leaks" that give free games to all those desperate people out there. I can assure you, Origin won't last and if it does I want nothing to do with it.

To sum up Origin, if you can't keep up, don't step up.
