Most people from SG ignore random friend invites, tho.
Comment has been collapsed.
It would put far more strain on the servers, they are busy enough without it ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Most of you are also suspicious of random Steam friend requests and sure they are malicious in one way or the other. I'd call that borderline of paranoia.

I have completely different experience myself. Granted, being one of those reprehensible introverts I recieve invites seldom or never but I had some, and only one person, that I can recollect, was asking to trade something.
I'm not actually oposed private messages on this site, I just don't see what it has to do with Steam invites.
And ofcourse there is this thing where wisnoskij made himself sound like a communicative type of fella and then stated that he doesn't like the only interpersonal way of communication available on Steam.

Because I'm forever alone and I have no one to send a carrier pigeon to?
Comment has been collapsed.
Calling names on me won't prove your point, son.
Also, the "community" communicates well enough, still you can be an exception.
And if you want to make REAL friends, go look for some, play games, join discussions, it's way more better than your beloved random PM instead of random request idea.

PMs are necessary.
Sorry but whoever doesn't realize this, must be a masochist...
Comment has been collapsed.
"Necessary"? How long has the site been going without them just fine?
I don't think it means what you think it means.
Comment has been collapsed.
The expected cheap excuse... I had a bet with myself on how fast someone would say this.
GJ
OK then let's have 0 improvements because it just works as is.

So I cannot express my own opinion freely? I believe it's necessary from my OWN point of view. There's no need to throw insulting posts directed to me about not undestanding the meaning of a word... or saying that my argument is ridiculous. Give me a break..
Could you imagine why I used the term "masochist"? (appart from the sexual perspective)
Comment has been collapsed.
A masochist is someone who enjoys pain, so you probably meant that not having PMs is frustrating (or painful in some other way.)
The argument is ridiculous if one assumes (as one must) that you think PMs are necessary for Steamgifts to work. It obviously already works.
If you mean that PMs are necessary to do some kind of specific thing you didn't describe, then maybe that wouldn't be a crazy argument. What do you think they are necessary for?
Comment has been collapsed.
Fact no1: SG works even if you axe its forum. However, PMs ARE necessary on ANY site that HAS a forum in 2013. If you believe the opposite, then you can go back to the Gopher era, if you like...
End of story.
Fact no2: This forum is not user friendly not only because it lacks PMs, but because it lacks several other features making one's browsing through the messages a much more harder task, compared to the average forum in a modern site, again in 2013. SG+ is improving it a bit, but still it's not enough.
Fact no3: By attempting to "put words in my mouth", I think that's ridiculous as well, for the sake of this discussion. Sorry, but I can't help it...
Finally, check my next post over here (works if you have SG+), to find out why I'm voting a NO as well.
Have a nice day.

I still can't tell what you're saying it is necessary for. What goal has failed due to it not existing? (In other words, I think you're still far away from even connecting to the word "necessary.")
I understand your fact 1 section, even though it's self-contradictory.
Re: Fact 2:I think it's actually more user-friendly because the search is so simplified. However, that doesn't mean it's better. It's an over-simplified search if one actually wants to find something specific. It could be improved. It doesn't bother me.
Fact 3: I have no idea what you're talking about. I never misquoted you, if that's what you're suggesting - I honestly can't tell what you're trying to say.
Re: your other post: that makes sense. That would actually be my main argument against a PM addition too - this site isn't fast enough to handle what it's already doing, and the staff seem to be very busy with what they're already dealing with.
We seem to agree about the main thing, I suppose. ^_^

PM system gets added to SG
Mass influx of PMs begging for free stuff
Disable PMs from SG

People report the beggars
Mass influx of reports
SG mods get overloaded
World blows up
I make myself some pasta
Comment has been collapsed.
So, in other words that's how it works on every single site that has a forum as well.
It's a total chaos, that's what you imply right?
Comment has been collapsed.
So, since beggars are everywhere on the Net let's block PMs, Skype, Chatting, anything that has communication features and stay in peace.
Comment has been collapsed.
It would just create more work for the sg mods if it were to be implemented, which is unfair for them.
Comment has been collapsed.
Make Message privates on SG need more Database Space and computing resources in Servers, and all people know that steamgifts is oftem saturated, so i think if u need talk with people use steam, chats, groups, friends... I think private messages here is unnecesary.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not really, it would use the same resource used for the forum and giveaway comments.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, because scammers, spammers, and beggars would message people. The mods however would have hordes of people bitching at them (as if the mod feedback system isn't being abused already). Also, I heard that SG is trying to reduce bandwidth, so this wouldn't be helping. In addition, if SG's servers got hacked, and people were sending game keys to winners though the PM system, cg would be in deep shit if the keys were activated by them.
Comment has been collapsed.
But people would be tempted to send codes though PM since people are lazy and don't want to use their email or add someone on steam. You know, people would pay attention to the "DO NOT SEND KEYS THOUGH PM" banner since everyone reads the information about bundled games before making giveaways.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, because this is only a tool to help whats steam cant do.
Comment has been collapsed.
In addition if you comment on a giveaway page, it doesn't show replies under Account -> View replies.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, since the replies on giveaways are excluded. (I don't get why is that, but I would like to see a change)

THIS. HOLY CRAP. Thanks for Skyrim Legendary Edition! :D

i used that answer because i don't really appreciate unconstructive feedback and that link that you sent me was just another similar thread from 10 months ago, when apparently users didn't really agreed with the PM's, but times have changed now...check the original post...
Comment has been collapsed.
"times have changed now" really and how did "About 80%" agree with the PM's if it's still about 50% (actually it's less) so no change in how people see it. Besides, you want constructive answer? Many of the gifters have random people adding them to friends for begging but they can just ignore request and they are good. With PM system they would be flooded with spam (and it is more likely for them to just leave than report every looser who decides to annoy them). If you don't meet beggars, it's good for you but those who do would not appreciate site giving them just another way to be harassed. I left you this link to show that there are many topics like this, all rejected, because you might have missed this fact or just didn't bother searching. If you want to talk with someone we have forums (reply function and view replies thingy), we have steam and steam group chat. We don't need any "I want to harass someone privately" system. And your argument about lack of beggars on forums? Well, look harder because I've seen enough people suspended for begging or topics closed because it turned into beggar fest, there is even special topic about possible beggar topics. And for "unconstructive feedback" your "feedback" is repeated crap we've seen over and over again so if you want to tell someone off start with checking it's not for something you have done in the first place.

That's one click of a button. The "ignore" button.
The most valid point so far is this:
"It would just create more work for the sg mods if it were to be implemented, which is unfair for them." said by fubarnocaps
Now, about the necessity of PMs, I'll give you an example: You are trying to reach the winner of a GA for days, since he/she cannot be found on Steam for several reasons. On the contrary, he/she is active on SG but there's no way to send a direct notification...
How the hell are you going to resolve this?
Waiting for 7 days to pass and reroll is not the answer I'm expecting to see.
Comment has been collapsed.
Too bad no1 is going to say: "no, ty, reroll it", no need for PMs, no need for more beggars, no need for even more work, and random stuff for the staff to deal width. You have steam, and everyone else as well, if they want to talk to you THEY WOULD, if they don't the fact that you can spam PMs at them won't change it.
Comment has been collapsed.
If he/she is active on forums you can write there (apart from the fact that you have email of the winner and you can very well contact them using it). If not I'd believe the person is not interested in their win and wait for a reroll (sorry but if you can use sg then you can check your mail). Also please notice that ignore works only for steam and it would require another option to be added to sg so people can use the site without being spammed if PM was added (so even more work for cg). One more thing, please search the meaning of the word "necessity" so you would not overuse it (PM might be convenient for some people and burden for others but they are not a necessity as you call it)

There was: @ #18886921 and it was 100% related to PMs IN forums, but as I said you skipped it.
Anyway, never mind you had your points I had mine.
Frankly I'm tired.
The facts are:
SG has a forum, right?
SG doesn't have PMs, right?
Is this extremely rare on a site that has a forum? Hell yeah.
Other gaming related sites have forums and PMs? Yes.
Do they have beggars and spammers and scammers and... (add the missing word)? Yes.
Therefore, the only valid point for me to consider is this:
"It would just create more work for the sg mods if it were to be implemented, which is unfair for them.".
That's more than enough to say NO, for this reason and only.
Everything else about beggars, and ghosts and dragons sounds funny to my ears.

Just pointing out that when answering to #18889564 I do not consider anything other than set of reply comments to this one (#18889564) relevant unless stated otherwise. If you write "ignore" I'll take it as one all of us can use (steam) and if you want to make it clear what you mean (especially when talking about some other post) you should just say so (just like you did now because it's unlikely I'd go searching which post you may be referring to, without even knowing about reference itself beforehand). I did not skip this post, just the way you answered didn't show "I am talking about something some guy posted 4 hours ago". Miscommunication happens (especially when talking to someone who is not native English user).

Obviously, it is related to the previous post.
Come on dude, that's how the majority of people are using the replies in forums!

I don't know what you guys think but i really think that SG needs a Personal Message option. That would really ease things a lot.
