Share in the comments below, whether it was due to a region restriction, an invalid entree or else. It's interesting to know :)
Ironically, this thread appears to be a bus stop, and the bus is arriving soon.

I apparently won WWK 2K16 after a reroll, but I have left the required group after all giveaways I entered had ended, some of which I won and already activated. And of course, only group members can receive gift from group giveaways, and I have agreed with the maker of the giveaway to a reroll.

Coincidentally, the maker of the giveaway found me through this thread, which is how we got it all sorted out. Good luck to the new winner :3

Aren't you entitled to the key because you joined the GA when still in the group?
Otherwise people may be kicked from a group if they don't like the winner.
Edit: Got a key once, was invalid, agreed with the creator to have the GA deleted.

If the group mentioned by OP is the one I'm thinking about (Unlucky-7), then no, winners are not entitled to a gift if they're not members anymore when a giveaway ends.
I think the admins have some kind of special agreement with Steam Gifts's staff, for cases when re-rolls are needed.

If I wasn't online the last few days to receive my gifts, and instead activated them all at once today, including WWE, the win would be valid, so why shouldn't it be now?

This is another borderline situation... the final decision would've been up to the giveaway creator, but you would have got the gift, most likely.
After all, one of the most important principles of this group is trust, they trust that people wouldn't get greedy.

Well, I don't know about that. The trouble with such things is who decides which group is entitled to preferential treatment?

As far as I know that's always the rule. The winner must be part of the group when giveaway ends. If Jordi was still part of the group when the giveaway ended but left later on, the creator shouldn't get a reroll.

Not to throw the cat amongst the pigeons here but source for this Mike?

I only ask because special rule rerolls got outlawed publically some time ago, as has been stated preferential treatment wouldn't be cool.

Now I'm totally playing devils advocate here as I'm all for them having the reroll privilege and I think the groups great. Just think this is a bit unfair as I'm sure other worthy groups have worthwhile reroll options.

Regarding the matter of an eventual "preferential treatment", I can't answer, we should wait for one of the admins to confirm or deny.
I just recall one of them talking about providing proof to SG's staff, in case a re-roll is needed.

The only thing I know for sure, is that if someone was still a member when a giveaway ended, they're entitled to the gift, even if they weren't in accordance with the group's rules at the time.

As this group offers high chances to win, it's bound to attract greedy people who want to win free games easily.
Those users usually have to be kicked from the group, because they're unwilling to give up on those higher chances.

Its not so much just this group, which is why I'm playing devils advocate, I've seen quite a few "special rules" enforced by reroll or claims they will be rerolled. I was wondering if the special rules reroll rule had simply been made inactive?

I know for sure that special re-roll rules for invite-only giveaways have been discontinued, with Steam Gifts v2.
I don't know about groups, they all have their own rules, and they have to be enforced somehow... but I don't know how.

Winner is eligible to receive his win if he was still a member of the group at the moment the giveaway ended.

This is true for any Steam group, no preferential treatment is given to Unlucky 7 or any other group.

I once won Alan Wake but the key was restricted to Poland or something (can't remember anymore) so had to mark it as "not received".

It never happened to me, and to avoid any kind of trouble, I stopped entering any Unlucky-7 giveaway after my 7th win I'm sure this is the group you mentioned, right?
Coincidentally, my 7th win came after a re-roll, in an invite-only giveaway for 2 copies of Back to the Future, with 5 entries, where one of the winners rejected the gift.

Yes, this is the group I am talking about. After I won my 8th gift and all giveaways I had joined ended, I had to leave the group so I did. And in that case my win of WWE should still be valid because I joined the giveaway before I won that 8th gift.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, when you left the group you were supposed to remove your entries from all running giveaways.
The giveaway creator is entitled to another re-roll, which they seem to have asked already.

The only borderline case is when someone is still a member despite having 8 or more wins because they didn't leave (or get kicked) yet; should that someone win, they would be entitled to get the gift (and then get kicked, and possibly blacklisted).

Read more closely, I left the group after I received my gifts and all other giveaways I had joined also ended, including WWE.

This was a win by a reroll, so I couldn't remove that entry anymore and should therefore be able to receive the gift, right?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The fact that the giveaway ended before you could remove your entry is an unfortunate coincidence, the giveaway creator most likely asked for a re-roll, and the decision is now up to the support member that will review the ticket.
I don't know which kind of agreement there's between the Unlucky-7 admins and the staff (if any), so the re-roll request could be denied, and in that case you would get the gift... I don't know really, I've never seen something like this happen. Wait, and see.

But if he was still a member when the giveaway ended and it was his 8th gift then technically he should be entitled to receive it otherwise it's basically just like playing favorites, isn't it? Oh well, you win some you lose some I guess. ^^

That's why I described it as a "borderline situation", in the previous comment.
If OP was a regular member when the giveaway ended, he would've been eligible to get the gift.

But, after further investigation, it seems he wasn't a regular member at the time:

  • his 8th win is dated September 5th, 9:41pm;
  • the mentioned WWE 2k16 giveaway ended September 6th, 12am;
  • furthermore, he won 2 more Unlucky-7 giveaways after his 8th win.

According to the group rules, after the 8th win (on the entire site), members should either leave the group, or become "gifters".
Gifters aren't allowed to enter group giveaways unless explicitly stated, and even then, they need a gift difference of +7.

In the relevant discussion in the Steam group, one of the admins advised the giveaway creator to ask for another re-roll, even if it could take some time (the first took almost 2 days).

Alright, makes sense. =) I didn't really check all the details as it doesn't really concern me, but I'm sure they'll figure something out since the giveaway creator now offered to discuss the situation with the OP. ^^

Luckily, borderline cases like this happen rarely.
A few months ago, an overly generous gifter bought the maximum allotted number of copies of an Indie Gala bundle during Happy Hour, and made giveaways for all the included games (41 copies each).

Most of them were more or less a guaranteed win for all entrants, as all but one had at most 60, with most around 40.
Of course, some members were extremely lucky (or greedy?), and won a lot of gifts, pushing them way over 8 wins.
Not me, as I decided to not enter any of them, to avoid this kind of trouble (and because I wasn't too interested in the games).

Honestly, I mean, to each their own, but personally, I don't get people who join giveaways just to join them and not because they actually want the game. I usually check games out when it's something that I don't know but think looks interesting but then still debate if I really want to spend my points for it or rather spend them on something that I have on my small wishlist. It kind of sucks that there are so many greedy people who'll reduce the chances of someone winning who actually wants the game with their behavior but sadly, there's nothing one can do about them (unless they're part of a closed group from which they can be kicked and then won't be able to join said group's giveaways anymore).

I'd like to pitch in here since I'm the giveaway creator in question.

The first person to win my WWE giveaway had already been out of the group 2 days before the giveaway ended, so I was granted a reroll. This morning it rerolled to you, and after I checked group history, it shows you left the group about 2 hours before my giveaway ended. I'm fairly new to group giveaways so I asked what to do in the group forums, I was advised I should seek a reroll because the giveaway ending took place after you had already left.

Is it possible that steam somehow doesn't use the same timezone Steamgifts does? I don't know, two hours really isn't a long amount of time... I'm open to discussing this further if you'd like to add me.

I once won one of three gift copies of Yet Another Zombie Defense, but the creator and each copy of the game was from somewhere in SE Asia. He spoke very poor English so communicating the problem to him didn't go well at all. I tried to send the gift back (since games from other regions that you fail to activate will apparently sit in your inventory), but he never accepted it. After talking with a staff member, I was told to mark it Not Received. One of the other winners did the same. The one guy who claimed to have received it? He never activated it.

If anyone from SE Asia is reading this and wants it, I suppose I could give it away. I think it's still sitting in my inventory...

Your entry is validated upon entering a GA, not after winning (due to rerolls, it could be anywhere from the day the GA ends to several months later), the only exception is if you won the same game twice, so I'd consider your case valid, if the GA was mine I wouldn't ask for a reroll (7 or 8 wins isn't a big deal, it's not like you had 20 wins).

But it's up to GA creator and the support to decide what to do.
