Hey, how are you?
I want to start listening to music that most young people my age listen. By that I mean pop music, ages up to late 20s listen to.
Link some of your favorite pop songs below if you want. ^^

thanks

Good people will respect your music taste, you don't have to like the same music

As if that helps.
Much better and healthier to listen to what you like and find people who listen to the same music

Regarding pop music - whatevers featured on spotify or I just turn on some radio station that plays pop music..
Other then that I just keep on listening to my own style of music and dont really wonder about those who dont like it.. Some groups include - Slipknot, Ghost, Dead South, The Beaches, Pretty Reckless.

ask them what music they like. and share some of the music you like with them. you're bound to find some you both like

I think there are two sides here now.

First, the whole "modern pop music's bad. le wrong generation. stupid music xd ew" narrative's stupid and I hope it never actually deters someone from listening to music they're interested in exploring.

Second, if the only reason you're going for this music is solely to find friends, then you're wasting your time. Music can be a great conversation starter, but usually that's the case in very few actual situations. Plus, if a person stops talking to you or just doesn't talk to you because of your music tastes, then those people are pretty shallow and odds are they'd find another reason to stop associating with you since they'll be finicky as fuck to maintain a relationship with.

If you're truly lonely and aren't just hamming it up to justify your desire (which you shouldn't feel the need to do anyways :D), then I recommend you look into various online groups or become more social online overall. It's a good place to build up confidence in case you want/need to make friends irl.

Sadly your gamelist is private, so I can't give good examples that can stick to you, but perhaps if you play CS:GO, then start talking during competitive matches. I've probably made around 30-40 friends through that game (which have all fallen apart since I haven't bothered to really continue the relationship actively). If you have a game you like a lot that's single-player only, look up some communities on Steam, Discord and Reddit for it (or maybe some other site you use). These days it's easier to make friends than ever before. You sometimes just have to take the initiative :)

Im have 27 on me, this is the pop i listen to now. there's so much you stop listening to, once you finish high school and stop being around that same group you see every morning. I used to like Slipknot, and i haven't listened to a single song ever since.
from the current pop singers, i think Lorde is really good.

Mostly ambient, electronica and modern progressive rock these days.
Bought the entire State Azure discography on Bandcamp today.
Oh, and I hate pop.

Generally speaking, and using pigeon holes aplenty, I mostly listen to post rock, 80s and 90s alternative, and classical/orchestral.

Music is just always random to me. I will keep going back to songs like amy by green day, piece of heaven by avenged sevenfold or various songs by my chemical romance. However for the most part I stick to gaming songs youtubers like tryhardninja has created or google translate sings was interesting to come across and find some actually catchy songs there. Wasnt actually that long ago I was listening to old bands like girls aloud or sugarbabes since I am a firm believer that the music I grew up with in the 2000s is superior to now a days music where all I keep hearing is ed sheeren and justin bieber. People I do like, like taylor swift I still dont mind their songs at least but I also find the past better then now.

So yeah music is just random for me, all depending on what kinda mood im in that week. Like currently since im using a differeny youtube account for free membership i dont have my song playlist so I started listening to avril lavigne again. Think ill still give her the title of my favourite singer as well

well, all in all pop has always been my favourite genre even if someone might think I'm more into metal or other genres =P
if I were you I'd start with some awesome EDM with female vocals, then shift to mainstream pop and start to delve into more acoustic pop like joyce jonathan or beatrice martin if you like french, just two examples =)
don't focus too much on youtube trends and similar thing, let instead youtube guide you =P
I don't like that much male vocals in pop, just as I don't like female vocals in metal except for few bands, so I'm not an expert of male pop music but if that's your thing I think there are tons of great singers out there!
try edm too anyways it's awesome =)
and pop if done well it can be an awesome genre too!

Definitely won't be able to recommend any mainstream pop music, I stopped listening to it somewhere at the age of 13-14. Anyway, I don't think anything good would come out of attempts to train yourself to listen to a particular genre if you're not prone to it, while a widespread exploration of different genres could make sense.

As for me, I'm mostly into Britpop and modern indie/alternative rock, also occasional classic rock, post-punk, synthpop and maybe something else depending on the mood - just never rap and never mainstream pop.

I've always thought it was tragic that when we're young we so often feel pressured to define ourselves by liking one particular kind of music, or worse yet, feel pressured to like the kind of music which just happens to be most prevalent in our culture at that given moment.

It's such nonsense. There are truly wonderful songs to be found in every genre.

Just be genuine and enthusiastic about the things you like, and never exalt or condemn anyone for the things they like - and always be open to discovering new things. Life is far too short to live in a box.

For inspiration, here's some indie-soul, some funky alt-pop-rock, some "sampledelia" hip hop, some experimental alt-rock electronica, some pop reimagined as funk, some indie alt-folk, some downtempo experimental trip hop, some rock, some reggae, some South African electro-dance-hip hop, some two-tone ska, some alt-metal grunge, and some proto-breakbeat mambo...

And it's all spectacular, and there are thousands more examples I could give, and we are lucky enough to live in a time when you can find an almost infinite quantity of incredible music from all of history at the click of a mouse.

Who cares what anyone else likes?

In 5th grade, some kids came up to me and asked me what kind of music I listened to - which was mostly punk at the time. They did not like my answer, and tried (unsuccessfully) to convince me that if I wanted to be cool I had to start listening to rap and R&B... It seemed ridiculous of them to try at the time, and seems even more ridiculous in retrospect.

School is such a weird time. I generally managed to avoid all that, but I remember a good friend of mine being told by one of the popular girls she would go out with him if he started listening to different music and hanging out with a different group of guys, and his response was just, "Nah, I'm OK thanks." and the other popular kids clearly couldn't understand at all why anyone wouldn't jump at the chance to join their clique... Glad I don't have to deal with that garbage anymore.

That's like saying, "I like you, except your taste in music and friends is terrible. You're gonna have to change both if you wanna be with me."

I prefer classical music than pop songs.
For example Schumann Piano Concerto, in A minor, OP. 54

Or you can try Some Trance remix from classic music, its great !

I'm usually a metal kinda gal but I'm really digging those two at the moment:
one (bc it reminds me of First Aid Kit's "My Silver Lining" which reminds me of the Telltale Borderlands game and oh boy, do I love me some Borderlands)
and two (just... just idk why.)
