It's probably worth creating a ticket. That sounds like a bug, but then again I'm pretty new here.

It's not a bug. When someone deletes a giveaway you entered you won't get your points back.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks for the clarification. The FAQ said you get your points back if you change your mind about joining the GA before the timer is up, so I surmised that a deletion would be similar.

Just so you know it is a bug. That guy didn't know what he was talking about. He hasn't been around long enough to know that prior to when SG v2 was first launched, deleted giveaways did indeed refund points spent on them on the previous version of the site. As far as I can tell it has never been addressed.

Angry about a very recent GTA5 GA maybe ? I know dat feel bro
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah a bit, but the guy was registered 3 months ago and had done a few bundle giveaways, so I thought it was worth a shot. Should have waited longer before entering.
Comment has been collapsed.
he didn't have the game himself, only the previous GTAs thats why i prefered not to enter

It's a shame that people would fake a giveaway. Nothing is gained from it, but I guess it's a form of trolling to an extent.

i'm happy i judged you correctly and entered your GA,great giveaway for start

Lets think about the benefits!!
Okay, why the fuck do people make fake GAs!
Comment has been collapsed.
To be honest, someone once created three public giveaway for GTA V, although they had given away a few very cheap bundled games in the past. I suspected the giveaway to be fake, so I added the user and confronted them about it (well, actually we just discussed it). Turns out it was a "joke", and they were just "having some fun trolling other users".
Luckily, I was able to convince them of deleting the giveaways.

Wasn't it a guy that was already in your friend list and I asked you if you thought it was legit ? ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
Nope, I don't believe so.
But like I said at the time, my friend list was full of strangers I don't even remember... And it still is, too.
Probably a good part of the Steamgifts community in there... :P

Never mention CodeName:Bad Rats. Never.

Alright, ALRIGHT! Damn it, now what? Should I proceed with Operation:Brainwash? I mean, if they can't remember I said that, all will be fine, right?

you are the dragon, it's your call. but whatever you do, don't make him get a notification to this thread before you proceed with a plan.

I agree it does suck, I think the loss of a GA slot is obviously not enough when you can clearly tell is was faked or there was no intention to give it away.
I still will use my points at the chance to win a Wishlisted game, even if it looks fishy. I mean, points accumulate fast I find. Although Midsummer Madness has been fun to keep up with lol.
It would be a nice feature to see, those points should not just go into the ether but should return to where they were. However, you'll find people who will complain because they are at the 300p cap and did not get their 60p back from a fake.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah and a Misleading Giveaway is 3 days, just seems like they're really just not enough to deter the trolls.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the people creating these Fake GA's have no interest in anything except to leech as many free games as they might win before they get banned or bored. These problematic users I would imagine create a lot of tickets that flood support when things like this happen as well. Something in place that would say, limit the amount of points able to be held, would deter said trolls.
It just feels like on a site where the Gifts/Giveaways are the main objective, with trading being a close second, that you should see a bit more I guess. Maybe that's just the sadist in me talking though. I just think someone may think a little differently about posting a fake GA if they knew they were going to see a cap of 150p and accumulated them at a rate of 50% less say, they might think twice.
I just got my magic flight box today though...so my mind is swimming in the sky.

I'm not sure I understand your suggestion. You're saying that if someone do a fake GA, they would be punished by a lower points cap ans a slower regeneration ?
Comment has been collapsed.
Right, I'm saying that by removing GA slots you are inflicting no punishment, as that user has no intention of making a legitimate GA.
The better form of punishment would be to punish their ability to win GA's. If you post troll GA's, your access to GA's should decrease not your ability to create them.

The loss of GA slots is not supposed to be a punishement, it's there to prevent users from keeping making fake GAs.
About your suggestion, yes that would be a punishment, but I think making this permanent would be a bit too harsh.
And about this:
if they knew they were going to see a cap of 150p and accumulated them at a rate of 50% less say, they might think twice.
I'm not convinced. Do you think people making these GAs care to read the FAQ before ? Even if you had a pop-up warning you about this when creating your first GA, most would not read it. It might help a little, but I don't think you would really notice a difference in the number of fake GAs (which are actually a very very small number of the total giveaways)
Comment has been collapsed.
That's true, and in my short time here I would say the only time you really notice the fake GA's is the first week of a AAA release.
I don't think it would need to be permanent, just like the GA slots by gifting to the community you can gain the loss back. That could be done the same with points.
Honestly, I have a feeling a lot of people period don't read the FAQ, Guidelines or Formatting pages at all when they first join. The best place to add it would be when you confirm the GA imo, but even then you're not guaranteed that everyone will read that. In ail fairness, I think that the Report a Giveaway feature being worked on will help out with this also.

don't create a ticket. it's already known by the admin and will be implemented eventually... probably. you can always build a time machine to go back to sgv1 if you want it that bad.

Puzzle giveaways are just found in thread in the forums. Looking in the Puzzles category is a good place to start, although not everyone puts their threads into the group, because it kind of gives away the fact that its a puzzle. Group giveaways are found by joining groups. Naturally, the smaller the group, the better your odds for the giveaway, although it usually requires a certain amount of giving to be invited.

......
I assume I am the guy who you guys are talking about.
But I got suspended because I a newbie won my first gift and didn't know it must be activated in my own account. I gave it away and have to suffer the suspension till now...
And if I'm the one who you are talking about...
Please learn to make sure what's happening first before you make any comments, especially on real person.
If not, I apologize...

Also you shouldn't lose value when you delete your giveaway (losing the value of that giveaway sure, but last time I deleted a giveaway was because I made a mistake so I deleted it only to relist it after a fix. I lost something like 2x the giveaway value.)

As title says: Points should be refunded when a giveaway you entered is deleted.
