So I like to stream with my friend. She lives far away and we have fun streaming different steam games to eachother. Lately though the steam broadcasting hasn't been working. It cuts out, it freezes, the audio breaks, and it lags a bunch.

We tried Twitch for the first time. Not only can we not set our stream to private, but to stream PC games you apparently have to download other programs such as XSplit. I didn't have a problem with that, so I downloaded XSplit, and it turns out if you don't pay for it, it's blurry, takes away basic features, and adds a watermark to your game. I don't care if it's not high quality, I just want to be able to properly see eachothers games.

We need a streaming service that provides the basic ability to stream and isn't too hard to learn (since I've never streamed outside of steam.)

Anyone know any goods ones? Here is a gib for your troubles

Well I've tried a few and the one I liked the most was OBS, which in my opinion is quite easy (and free!).
I only streamed a couple of times some time ago so I can't really compare them correctly but it should be enough for someone who casually wants to stream.

OBS - I use it to stream to twitch - completely free, easy to use and resource friendly.

Have you tried streaming on Youtube? Apparently there is an option to set your stream either "Public, Unlisted, or Private". Might be a good alternative for Twitch in your case. Other than that, can't think of other advice since I haven't tried any streaming software.

Thanks for suggesting this! I tried it out and it turns out I need a program like obs to run it (which everyone suggested I use anyway above.). I was going to use obs with twitch, but now I can use it with youtube and put it on private :)

Not sure if it will work for us yet but thanks for the help!

In your particular case, i would definitely use Youtube instead of Twitch. Twitch is the better choice mostly for the chat experience, so if you're not going to fully use that Youtube makes more sense, imo.

As others have said, OBS is probably your best bet with Youtube for privacy. There are lots of OBS tutorials out there, but for the most part, their wizard will automatically try to optimize your connection and hardware. If not, Discord / Skype have screenshare, the only problem is you will need a program to reloop audio so the other person can hear you + the game/desktop sounds if that is an issue.
