You have to join nine Steam groups, visit six Greenlight pages, visit seven Facebook pages, sign up for Instagram (because let's face it, you probably don't have one already)... and then you get a key for Bad Rats or Unknown Battle or something. I wouldn't call that free. Zero cost, sure, but not free.

I know that, hence "zero cost", but there's a lot of time and effort involved. Especially if you don't want to get banned by using a gleam solver. ;)

I don't think "zero cost" is necessary. We all know about the tasks you have to do on Gleam and "free" implies no monetary payment so it's valid.

some of them do take the piss with how many actions they require. I don't mind doing a few tasks (especially with accounts on steam, twitter, etc created solely for gleam) but when they make them require dozens of actions and then wonder why people would use automated scripts to do them... but you know the saying about free lunches

and no poll option for "yes but didn't enter yet" will have to remember when I get home and have some more points

F2P is associated with certain "game mechanics", namely in-game/app purchases. Games can be free without being F2P. If a game has a cost and someone gave you the game bypassing that cost then in that case the game was free. F2P has absolutely no relevance to the matter being discussed.

Just tag it [gleam.io]

Most of the time and effort is with the first time you do one of those free game things. Now that everything is set up it takes me very little time to go through all the actions. I don't think the time and effort is excessive enough to warrant classifying the games as not free. I mean how many people solve jigsaws and quizzes just for the chance to win a game which takes a lot more time.

Zero Cost is not right, cause you pay with your data (follows / group joins / responses / views / tweets / etc) so free is the right term
It's some sort of microtransactions (cool 20th century word)

I don't really care about clicking few times. BUT I hate this group notifications. Is there any way to turn it off without turning off every notifications (I want to know when my friends sending me messages) or going offline ?

I basically see gleam as the junkyard, discarded stuff some people don't want then those that do want gotta dig through the shit-heap that is gleam. bump-in-the-knight .!. yeah not exactly free since you pay with your time and clicks hmmmmm maybe call it partial pay or reward keys or I dunno i'm just letting my brain go at this point um k now i'll stfu.

Free ? Giving business a comminucation channel where they can spam me more is not "free", it's setting myself up to get annoyed fast.
Especially taking into account that many of these gleam.io giveaways are done by shady folk with shady business practices that I don't want to get near. Not worth the effort for the low-grade shovelware that's commonly given away.

I just see most of gleam games (ones that come with trading cards) as digital money in my pocket to go towards games (when they come on sale) I do want to purchase from Steam. I'm not saying that all the games are only worth getting for card farming, as I'm sure some of them are probably ok, but in all likelihood, you probably already have better games in your library that you would rather play or have not yet played.

Other than that, I think that games given away for free via gleam or wherever should still be allowed to be given away on here. There should just be a warning displayed to the user that's trying to give said game away that this game has been free before, thus this game will not affect your cv ratio & the game will be listed at 0p - something along those lines.

P.S: technically each time someone gives a game away on here, it's been given away for free. :P

Wouldn't "zero cost" be more confusing? It costs time and effort, just no money, but free on it's own to me always refers to money.

Edit: Seems I misunderstood the topic - my post is largely redundant!

I do agree that they're not totally free, and that your 'payment' was visiting the relevant site, joining the correct groups etc.

If we're talking giveaways, and how the games should be counted then I don't believe they should be given on here. People would exploit the keys, grabbing more than one using a VPN or whatever. Even if they give no points the motivation would be to receive kudos on here. The winner(s) wouldn't have visited the sites or joined any of the groups, and therefore nobody other than the person picking up a bunch of keys will have made a 'payment'. The whole point of the promotions is that many different people view the sites or join the groups, not one guy over and over again with different accounts.

As far as we are concerned, we get a game without paying. So it is free.
It'S up to everyone to decide whether it's worth the effort for them :)

Found and entered the hidden ga btw, thanks! :D
