So I comment on profiles, it's true. Every now and then I run into a situation where I seem to be subscribed to someones profile comments. I will get a message notification every time someone else comments. This does not seem to be all profiles, it doesn't last forever, and I can't find a way to stop it.

Anyone know of a way to end it if it's happening? Better yet, can it be avoided, without the obvious stop commenting on profiles solution.

You know, I'm thoroughly impressed with you making it this far in to my post. I tend to ramble(can you ramble via keyboard?) and appreciate those that actually make it to the end. Reply to this thread with a comment. Avoid comments that hint at there is a invite coming from it, because they will sadly be skipped. I'll send you a temporary invite to Lucky SGer Doing Any Nice Odd Neat Yet Most Often Useful Stuff for a game that will be decided by the wishlist of those invited! Just because you are awesome!! Yep YOU!!!

If you have nothing to contribute to the thread, that's ok, it's the thought that counts. A great reply for you could be: "I have a problem, LSDAnonymous my be the solution." Invites will be pulled 24-48 hours from now. Giveaway will be created after taking a peak on the wish list results, and created same day. There will be no cv restrictions. It will end within 72 or less after creation. This is not a lasting giveaway group, and is only used for my private giveaways. Membership only last until my current running private giveaway is marked as received, and then you are heartlessly kicked to the curb. Sorry, I'm a jerk. I can't help it. It's a problem.

And further more the, it pisses me off that Steam thinks they can just subscribe me to any ole profile they like! I mean what if I don't want to want to know all the crap they get on their profile and I just want to thank them or give them rep. Don't read this paragraph. It is only to throw people off from the juicy center, has no bearing on the topic really, and is strictly a waist of your time. For real. It will start again now. You were warned. How does Steam expect me to do that without getting my message box spammed with all these replies!?! It's stupid and unfair. I don't like it. Sorry for my rant, please check below.

Thanks and have a good day.

PS: Thanks for reading my entire post! I know I ramble, but it means a lot that you read the entire post. Your awesomeness, and the fact that you made it all the way to the end, let's you get a chance at this bad boy. The link is hidden, aren't I sneaky? View the page source, search for "2 da cheese!" and find something you may, or may not, like. I just want to reward you for reading the entire post, but didn't want anyone to just skip to the bottom and join. Psh, I'm too smart for them!

EDIT: Those of you that got to the juicy center, invites going out soon. No new post from NOW will be considered. Sorting through the relevant, sneaky, funny, and possibly other replies. Don't think you're reply is going to make the cut? You have 6ish hours or so to reply to your own reply with why it should. Creativity is king here. I'm a softie, all about 2nd chances. OR, maybe I'm just being a jerk since you didn't read the thread. Oh.... That would be cruel.

Well, you know, you can always rebel, get to the bottom of this, then go to the top of the valve and demand them to stop this madness!! Oh, dear, and while you up there could you grab for me some coffee, muffin and HL3, thank you very much!
And by the way, how did you know that I'm awesome? I don't think I've mentioned it before. Well, anyway, good luck with your problem, and let the suffering of all the poor commenting souls out there help you to bring long awaiting peace to our community! I have hope in you!

I don't get this problem, I'm jealous of you! I think steam doesn't like me much, it never lets me have any fun (except gaming)... :(

Thanks for the interesting post. Unlike FeiLing up above, I didn't think it was a waist of time. I rather enjoyed your keyboard-penmanship, or whatever... :)

Maybe it's an undocumented feature and not a bug? :D

Your Problem seems to be "unfixable" :(

Also interesting info:

Hi all,

We've changed how frequently these notifications get sent out. Starting today, you'll only receive a notification from a comment on someone else's page/screenshot/workshop item if it's the owner of the item or one of your friends posting the comment, and only if it's been fewer than 3 posts since your last post.

Let me know if you still feel like you're getting unwanted notifications - adding some configuration settings is an option, however we'd prefer the feature work intuitively for everyone without requiring any manual configuration.

Well, I hate subscribtions to comments aswell...exspecially on youtube...those kids and those "trolls" and BAH. I COULD NOT STAND IT ANYMORE. I was happy to see a funny video, but then a mighty force dragged my right hand down so that I had to scroll into the comment section... "Get a life nub" "Fake and robbed" "NO NOT FAKE YOU *****" "Pls visit my channel" "hahaha you suck" ...
Finally I found an addon for chrome: "Hide Youtube Comments": If it sis activated, any comments on every possible comment-able site are blocked, you cannot see them, they do not even load! And the mighty force is only used to drag my hand down to make me scroll down... It has not yet learned to move it up, click on extensions, deactivate the addon, go to video tab, reload tab and then scroll it down. So I became king of this mighty force and my days have become better as I do not have to realise that this... hell...this...youtube "community"...exists. No, for real, try it out yourself, it makes your life better :D

TL;DR: HAI.

Best I can think of is to delete your comment on the profile that you are getting notifications on

It is strange that it doesn't happen with every profile. I would say look in your activity tab if there is a possibility to deactivate it. But since someone here linked already to the Steam discussions where other people have the same problem there is probably no solution at the moment.

And that is the important part: at the moment. Your best chance to avoid this completely is to join those "complaining" in the forums. The more people have a problem with it the higher the chance Steam will give you the chance to deactivate it.

Sorry i don't know of a solution. But it is really annoying how steam seems to do this. It's done it to me a few times before. It't nothing too annoying though luckily as it rarely happens so i could easily put up with it.

Perhaps try unfriending then friending them again? After thoroughly reading through your post, it's the only solution that I can think of.

Together, we can eliminate our short attention spans.

Maybe you have to send small bribes to Gaben every time you post a comment. Only a few cents may do the job. Sorry no real idea how to fix it here ^^...

rambling with keyboards is definitely possible ...

... it's why people type TL;DR :-)

as for the issue of being subscribed to the profiles, I have not encountered this myself so I'm not sure what to advise.

well if you are getting a new comment notification click on the envelope and when it shows the list of recent comment notifications, there should be something that says "mark all as read" and that fixed it for me one time when I was being notified of someones private profile that I wasn't friends with. it won't stop it entirerly but it should be getting rid of any further notifications until u comment there again :P
