ow they always tell us (I mean, those who want to use English as the universal language xD) that the Dutch learn English at the age of 3 by watching TV programs and so on (the Dutch are always the model for those teachers, don't know why not other Nordic/Germanic countries XD) but this time I'm forced to admit that I didn't understand anything ç_ç

Hey notting vrong width our inglesh. :p
We don't force a child to watch english programs when they turn 3, in my case i did learn it by watching english cartoons like Yogi Bear and The Flintstones (on BBC and the sky channel) and playing siërra/lucasarts adventure games.
I think lately they are trying to teach kids english in kindergarten, though i don't have children so can't say for real.
My guessing is that he's is talking about sgtools and other "requirements".

ahah your English's perfect! not only yours personally but the Dutch one in general! xD
well, being Northern Italian I've always promoted our languages, mainly french and italian, 'cos we have been literally bombed with English linguistic propaganda since decades.. so we have English teachers from the UK that always tell us that we (neo-Latin speakers, including spanish, portuguese, romanians etc.) are doing everything wrong by talking in our own languages and not seeing movies/cartoons in English, and they always point out that the Dutch are the best people ever since they all learn English when they're still kids so that they grow all up being bilingual (while of course the English are all monoglots xD)
yeah I don't have kids either but you're right - it's funny that all the English teachers no matter where they come from they all tell us that the example to follow (maybe for forgetting our mother tongues and speak all the same language, I hope not so xD) are the Dutch kids that all know English perfectly at the age of 10, it's funny 'cos they never say that Norwegians or Danes speak perfect English, the example for us Southern Europeans as the perfect bilingual kid is always the Dutch xD at least for an English expat teacher's mind..
well, I love the country, I love the whole Europe and it's great to learn a perfect English as kids given the world we are in, but we should also promote our mother tongues and all the culture and literature they bring with them, and don't kill me Belgians (Belgium is a strange country xD) but the Dutch have so much to offer too in their own mother tongue during all their history =P (and should we speak about music sang in Dutch, from pop to metal? I saw Heidevolk for the 3rd time some months ago in Milan, how awesome can be that language?!)

In high school we have to learn English (which was the only class i didn't had to study for because i knew stuff already) and they kinda make you choose German or French) I really just barely passed my French (and with some help from the teacher who took my oral exam (i studied at home so didn't know the teachers at the exam).
Dutch, German, French, English they all come from the same language, so it's why it has similar words (especially Dutch/German) and i guess easier to learn if you are from such country learning one of these languages.
For anyone learning a language i can really suggest playing adventure games (with a walkthrough in your language next to it to have some understanding of what you are doing), ones that also show you what items are called, show the verbs etc.
But Dutch music also includes stuff like this…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR-hWde2YsY

Not true French is from a different language family.
French is from the Romance family and Dutch, German and English are from the Germanic family.
French, being from a different family is more difficult to learn for the Dutch than German and English.

That's because the French conquered England in the 11th century.
Some documentary footage to prove this historical fact: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey0wvGiAH9g

You're completely right! :') On everything!
Oh, two of my latest purchases for my CD collection have been "De Koek" and "Nachtlicht" by Eefje de Visser - for what concerns other genres but metal, for some reason I listen only to female singers xD Though, it's hard to find Dutch (young) female singers singing in their own mother tongue.. I really really like her!! I don't even know if she's famous or not xD
Yeah, definitely.. in fact, we all have such a bad pronounciation xD Italians, Spaniards, Greeks, but even Finns and so on.. we all speak an undecipherable kind of English xD 'cos we don't speak Germanic languages as mother tongues and we find so many difficulties, while we have waaay less problems for instance to understand each other.. I never studied Spanish but it's extremely easy for me to read it.. it must definitely work the same for the Germanic languages, although for some reasons it seems that the Dutch are the best when it comes to speak a perfect English xD (well I met lots of Germans and Austrians speaking an Italian-ish English ahah!)
That's awesome anyways, here in high school I think now it's mandatory to learn English but when I was there we could study French, Spanish or German (I studied as an accountant by the way)..
I'll definitely try to get more in the Dutch pop culture =P Well, my favourite soccer team has always been Gent and I can say I've got a "Dutch tattoo" about my team but I think Belgians wouldn't agree xD

awesome!! well, I never studied English (actually here in Italy up until the '90s we used to study French instead of English!) - not even at the university xD.. I learned it (although I really can't say I'm "good" at English, not at all, it's more something I'm forced to "know") by playing in the '90s every available game for the NES, SNES and so on.. they were available only in American English or Japanese, some games like Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy Tactics didn't even have an European release so we had to import everything from the States.. if you didn't know English back then in the '90s, if you couldn't read Gamefaqs and so on.. you would definitely understand barely anything! Just think that until Final Fantasy 7 (for the Playstation 1) all the games from that franchise were available only in Japanese and English so.. if you liked RPGs.. you HAD to learn English xD

Exactly, there were absolutely no translations anywhere. Pokemon games are quite simple in story, but I bet FF7 would be really hard if your English comprehension is basic. I completed it years later, but even then I had to look up some things.

yeah, definitely!! I still remember that we had to play with an English vocabulary on our desk and well, we used of course Gamefaqs a lot but even there they used tons of "weird" words you don't learn at school.. so I basically learned words related to magic, wars, monsters, mythology and so on before words more widely used in the real world xD
And I'll never forget that it took us a week to figure out the meaning of "to hold" since there's no literal translation in Romance languages.. and dictionaries of course pointed out to different translations that didn't match a Playstation joystick xD
so definitely, played after many years both on the PS1 and on Steam, along with all the previous FF games, it was much easier for me.. I understood many plot points that in the '90s I didn't even touch due to my age and my poor English comprehension xD And now whenever I can, due to the CRAPPY Italian translations, I keep on playing every JRPG in English..

having met dozens of swedes and finns through my life it's so strange to see how finns speak just like us italians (it's not even English ahah) while swedish teenage singers speak a perfect english xD in every genre, out of my 3 favourite guitarists, 1 is swedish and 1 is finnish, I talked to them many times and with the finnish one it's always so difficult to understand each other ahah while the swedish one seems like a native english speaker (highly doubt he studied English apart from high school).. so weird! Well, sw, no, nl and dk are the four best countries in the world for what concerns English..
rather than pronounciation mistakes, I found some funny Swenglish errors while talking with them.. when I was a teen a musician told me he was "living in a hotel" in Milan and I figured out days after that Swedes literally translate "bo i ett" sometimes.. xD
Though, my biggest tattoo is still and probably will always be a huge Swedish writing on my back.. gotta go back to Sweden next year =P

I've seen several entries that seem to atleast suggest that performing certain actions increase your chance of winning, so you hereby confirm this is not the case and its a pure ( 1 / #participants ) chance? then I'd be consoled

you can not increase the chance of winning by any means or in any way! period.
[its a pure ( 1 / #participants ) chance] <- THIS
but you can be restricted from access to some giveaways if you dont f.ex. solve a puzzle first. but thats the way invite-only giveaways work.

Good thing nobody reported me claiming that chances to win skyrocket every time you watch through https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKxio8HZiNA for my Nep-Nep GAs.

You tell them that if they all use your toothpick, then every time they drool on it their chances of winning gets greater. Create a mailing list where all participants give you their real addresses, and mail one (1) toothpick. Let the licking begin!

Please don't allow joining SG without reading the FAQ!
I'm kidding. Sorry, that was mean.
In all seriousness, please do read the FAQ and Guidelines, especially if you'll suggest changes to the website. You'll see that it clearly states that no actions are required to get an equal chance as every other entrants in a giveaway, other than entering said giveaway. If a giveaway's description suggests otherwise and asks users to complete any kind of task in order to enter or increase their chances, please do report it to support as that is not correct, and in fact it is not allowed.
