There are a few bundles I see on Steam, such as VRS Bundle and Winter Sale Special. Where you can't buy the bundle if you own any of the games within the bundle.

I was wondering if it's possible to buy as a gift for someone you has one of the game but enable the gift button using javascript workaround and buy each other the bundle as a gift.

Is anyone willing to give this a go with me? Add me on steam.

Cheers
Andy

There used to be a workaround where you added it to cart when logged out, then logged in and it stayed in your cart. It still works that way, but Valve added additional check on checkout and it blocks the finalisation (I tried it today with this bundle: http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/1011/Dinosaur_Hunt_XXL_Edition/).

As for your idea: it's not possible to gift this kind of bundle to someone who has one or more products in his account, either. I bought it for a friend who had none, but those who had 1+ were greyed out.

This would be buying as a gift for someone else though. Do you think it still goes through the final check?

I can try buying for you.

You can remove the game you already own from your Steam account and then buy the bundle yourself.

You can just remove the game(s) you own via help.steampowered.com and then buy the bundle in its entirety.

Looks like hiding the game from an account doesn't allow to buy a bundle nowadays

Hiding and removing a game aren't the same thing.

What is the way of completely removing a game from account?

"permanently deleted" game can be easily recovered at any time later.

Yes, it can be recovered but that doesn't really matter, Steam should consider it not owned on your account if you "delete" it. As far as I know this has always worked for me when I ran into any issues. What bundle are you trying to buy that you can't?

It is actually hiding a game and you can recover "permanently deleted" game at any time later. And this doesn't allow to buy "Must be purchased together" bundles now like it was 4 years ago

New workaround that I used recently:

  1. "Permanently delete" games from your Steam account
  2. Buy the bundle as a gift, from a second Steam account to your main account
  3. Do not accept the gift yet
  4. Restore the deleted games back to your account
  5. Accept the gift

That was several months ago, I don't remember exactly but I think it would block you from accepting if you had deleted any of the games from the bundle. You don't receive extra in either circumstance except for a few very rare and old games that give extra copies

apparently it gives errors if you don't restore.

I just tried this there, removed the games "permanently" through the support tab of each game and it just says:

"Your account already owns a removed copy of the above items, so you can’t purchase them again. You can restore these items via Steam Support, purchase these items as a gift or adjust the contents of your cart to continue."

I'm trying to purchase the Metro bundle for a friend.

The purchase buttons are just greyed out for me.

If you mean the changes in the bundles, you are right of course. And if you know about disk cloning, I await your reply. 😜

Thread is from 5 years ago and the bundle no longer exists. Some games do still have "must buy together" bundles, although it's normally a DLC season pass bundle.

I have a similar problem, albeit I have not yet activated any of the items on my Steam account. I want to purchase V-Rally 4 with all DLC. The Ultimate Edition is a "Must Purchase Together" bundle and has the game with all the DLC bar one: the pre-order exclusive Ford Shelby GT 500, unavailable in the Steam Store. I own, but have not yet activated, the "Day One Edition" of the game with the pre-order bonus, but lacking any other DLC. My plan is to purchase the Ultimate Edition and then activate my Day One Edition and hope the Ford Shelby GT 500 DLC activates successfully. Do you guys think it might work?

Good point with the separate sub ID. The duplicated game is not a problem for me. I'm definitely going to try it out and inform You guys how it went. I'm just waiting for the Ultimate Edition to go on sale.

My intuition tells me that Valve and publishers make more money from not breaking up bundles. Prob an API thing where the game is already packaged in a format that is easily distributed on the servers thus it makes it impossible to allow you to just get access to certain products within the distro. That is what I think hence Steam has moved away from allowing you to "buy what you are missing". Unless its been solely separated by the publishers/Devs. Prob more cost effecient for the publishers to upload bundled distros.

My very cynical take is that they do it this way in hopes of double dipping on customers, it's pretty crappy of them imo. Now it's entirely possible that publishers adding games aren't always educated about how these things work but the goodwill move should always be "complete the bundle" offers.

Yeah likely, but with me it backfires and I spend less. If it has complete collection I will bite, but when its not I just say screw the DLC out of spite and they make less off me in the end often.

Must Purchase Together (MPT) bundles are somewhat similar to an extra sub (GOTY, Gold, Deluxe etc.), but publisher does not need to set a price and manage discounts for a bundle since it will be calculated from the prices and discounts of individual products automatically. It just may be convinient for them. Everything else may be considered side effects. Unlike normal bundles, MPTs can be gifted - it's a positive side effect.
