Well, as title says, i bought a Meizu MX4 32GB (planned to get the 16 GB, but the store told me that those wasnt ready, instead offered me the 32GB at their full price instead) so when the phone arrived, i start using it, i saw that in the store's website it said that it will come with Android 4.4 and Flyme 4, instead it came with Android 5.1 and Flyme 5.1.5 G... i tried to install some APPs from the appstore and couldnt, because the version wasnt supported (weird, because for example, pokemon go its for android 4.4 to 6.0) so i tried to install the 5.1.8 A , got bootlooped, tried to install back the 5.1.5 G, still bootloop, tried to install the 4.2 I ( G its the new I so...) and got full bricked.... So i writted to the store and they just said that if i bricked its out of warranty.... Anyone know some site to send it? Im from Spain if that helps. Thanks and sorry for the wall of text + no ga T.T

When i hold the power buttom i cant see anything (neither if i press volumen up or down with it) If i plug the phone into the charger i dont see anything... and if i plug the phone to the computer i can see windows working on installing the new plug (this only happens the first time that i plug on a USB port), and if i tried to use the bootloader combination, i can hear the windows's sound of plug&play connect, but after a few seconds i hear the plug&play dissconnect

Google the phone and try every button press combination you find.
Try taking the battery out and retrying.
Try to see if there are tools available from the phone company.

The main aim is to get to either recovery or download mode. If you can get to one of those successfully, then there is a much higher chance your phone can be saved.

The first update was from this site: https://forum.meizufans.eu/topic/5894/flyme-os-5-1-8-0-stable-mx4 its not the mx4 pro version, a friend of mine recommended me the phone (and now he felt so guilty because all this happened) i think that the store did something shady

Upgrading Android should not be breaking warranty.

If they say it is, it's perhaps time to break out a lawyer.

yeah that. Of course, I don't know what exactly was done, if the android was rooted, or something like that. (I damn near bricked mine when I was rooting, so I gave up)

Also, for anyone considering getting an android: LG SUCKS. DON'T GET IT!

Maybe the store thinks he rooted it (or he did), that would break warranty.

I didnt root it, when the phone was updating, it asked me if i want to root it and i didnt checked the mark

I'm not familiar with Android (iOS user here). But I doubt rooting is a normal option in the official update procedure

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpKaN2gMSkM When i tried to pass from 5.1.5 G to 5.1.8 A i did that, but when i tried to come back using the "recovery mode" (that they installed, i didnt even know that i had it) like on this video https://youtu.be/ix7rrKS4keI?t=6m15s So, if someone did something "shady", they did with the custom bootloader, not me

For what he did the phone should be rooted, which breaks the warranty.

If you didn't root it, then no matter if it is bricked, they must honour the warranty. It is not your fault Android is an awful system that cannot upgrade without something terrible happening.

If the Play Store says an app isn't supported despite the phone having the required Android version, it's because it's got a custom ROM installed.
As an example, my phone's last official update was Android 4.2.2, so the Play Store shows Pokémon Go as incompatible, even though I installed Cyanogenmod 12.1 (Android 5.1.1).

TL;DR: your phone most probably came with a custom ROM, I'd call it a scam... or lack of control over refurbished products.
And I think you could still enforce the EU law about refunds, within 14 days from the purchase date.

Yeah, that's what im thinking :S The store told me that i have to pay for a budget service (19€ to send/get back the phone + budget) and then they would charge me the repair (if possible)

i'm curious to know which store is it. I guess a serious store would not be that picky in honouring the warranty.

The problem is OP has contacted the store and the store likely think it's been rooted, if that phone is now taken in they'll still assume it's rooted. If the phone had been taken straight into the store with a "broken fone, plz fix, kthxbai" they may well have just replaced it (after checking serial numbers).

It's like asking your boss for a day off, not getting it and then phoning in sick. Everyone knows you aren't sick as you tried booking it off.

Well, if the phone is not in a full brick and they manage to access the files, they could check easily the system image and just compare the file size

That brand uses its own Android flavour, some weird OS name. Could be the reason behind the app store not really knowing what to do.

Yeah, they use Flyme (in the website of the store it says Flyme 4, and in the box it says Flyme 4 too, but i had the Flyme 5, with a non full working version of it, because a friend has the same phone and he could install the apps that i couldnt

Have you tried removing the battery and put it back in?
I am sure there are ways to fix it.

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/are-you-sure-its-bricked-how-you-can-fix-your-broken-smartphone/
I am sure there are many tips else on other sites out there to try, i think i bricked my tablet once but can't remember what the exact fix was.

Whilst plugged in, attempt to reset the device, by holding the power and home buttons for up to 10 seconds. If this doesn’t work, attempt to switch on as normal. After the phone has booted, you would be wise to restore iOS by connecting to iTunes and downloading the latest version for your device. That reset button might differ per device.

upto you if u wanted to try this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/meizu-mx/general/meizu-mx4-how-to-flash-ubuntu-touch-t3210039

additionally you could try cyanogenmod firmware as well, seems to be a popular choice for that phone model.

EDIT: sry, didnt understand that you were full brick.. most ppl consider just not working bricked, but yeah yours sounds truly bricked..
EDIT2: actually this one still looks like it will do the trick.. softbrick recovery with the drivers and tools for pc to recover it.

that sounds like it is listening still at startup for a firmware push from pc.. there may still be hope for it from the sounds of that..

maybe using something similar to odin to recover it exists for that model.

Sorry to hear that this happen EsE. Your best bet it to go to XDA and post this there and hope someone to help you. Because it's different for different smartphones and there you will get the most appropriate response, because people own this model.
Edit: before doing anything, read carefully and be sure you understand the instructions before fulfill them

Most of the time you can still install working firmware and unbrick a bricked device by using fastboot mode. XDA forums is probably the best place to look for guides or ask for assistance.

unless you have a RL friend who knows how to do that stuff.

another option is to pay the store for that. but it will cost you

I know this won't help but I share my thoughtst:

  • If the description doesn't match with the phone you got, you have to call support, or take it back where you bought it and tell them.
  • If you brick your phone you don't have to tell them the truth, you should have just say something that it doesn't turn on anymore and you have no idea why etc. There is a chance you won't get "caught".
  • Pokémon GO's compatibility is a pile of shit.
  • If you ever want to install a new/custom firmware don't do it by yourself. Take it to some techie guys instead

I dont know how the Spain laws are but they could be nearly the same as Germany's laws at the topic: warranty.
I bought a HDD for my Laptop one year ago but after one week it break down ( I could even hear the mirror parts ).
I went to the shop, said it doesnt work as i want and they gave me a new one. They didnt even asked why i didnt want it or what happened xD
I read later that I have the right to give it back within 2 weeks even though i did something to break it.

Go to the Shop (not online) and ask there. You didnt root it so it should still has its warranty.

bring it in, dont mention anythng about updating or blah blah blah, "hey look, this thing stopped working, i want a new one, now, thank you", i highly doubt they will be like "oh we gotta have our tech guys look at it in the lab to see if you tried whatever, so sit tight and in a few weeks we will let you know", they wont know what happened other then its not working and you are entitled to a new one
