So since there was a mass giveaway of the game (14k copies) of course there are some genius people who just regift the game to earn levels:

https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?q=The%20lost%20valley

I already reported 3 of them always checking on SGtools ( http://www.sgtools.info/activation ) if they actualy won and did not activate it.

My question mainly to the staff is if It is correct to report all of those on their own or if there is a faster and easier way to do so.

Edit: To make it clear. This:
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/n2KDk/the-lost-valley
is the giveaway I am talking about. It was not a free game as in cases of indieGala etc. It was mroe a raffle with a higher chance to win.

I am not sure. It was not free right I mean there was a guy or a dev who just gave the game away "a lot" but it was not really free it was a raffle.

It's not the same. If a game is free, it should be added to the list of free games and all running GAs are deleted at the same time. There's no point in creating multiple user reports.

Regifting a game won on SG is something else. There is no list for such games. Also, it's a worse offence and every regifter is guaranteed to be at least temporarily suspended.

To the OP: no, I don't think there's a better way.
I want to personally thank you for the user reports. Sometimes people only blacklist regifters because they're too lazy to create a report. Blacklisting accomplishes nothing, while a report may actually advance a repeat offender on their path to permanent suspension.

Allright thanks. Just finished the last report. Just gave the SGtools link to show that he/she did not actiavet it and then linked the giveaway the offender started. Hope they all get banned. Regifting is just awefull.

The worst thing is: I applied amongst the first ones, the game is on my wishlist and I failed to win a single copy with a chance of more than 65% :/

Same, really wanted it but couldn't even win the one with 14k copies. D:

I asked for a reroll because I traded for that game a couple days ago and forgot to check... only now I realized there were 15k keys... i will probably wait forever (provided the GA creator will ever notice my post) :P

If the creator fails to respond after a week, just mark it as "not received" and put it behind you.

i believe Daerphen nailed it.. it's unnecessary and mostly gums up the report system, just like reporting free game gifters.. checking winners of your own giveaways prior to sending out the gifts and report those who do not activate their wins or have multiple wins that can't be activated is the way to truly report people for these rulebreaks.

report a user is intended for harassment or threatening other member type of reports. not really there to report non activations or regifts.

But if this would be the case then why would they even give people the option to choose "Not activating won gift" as option within a support ticket?

why bother? since its been given freely when they put that in their system they will get 0 CV for it and since its 0 their level should remain 0. seems like everything works itself out, right?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

different case scenario. the game they are talking about hasn't been free yet. (afaik / still in SG giftable list too)

so not really on working itself out that easily. however if gifters would just check their winners it would be caught upon their next win anyways, and at that point it will get punished. the user report is likely to just get lost in the works though.

"So since there was a mass giveaway of the game (14k copies) of course there are some genius people who just regift the game to earn levels:"

I dont mean free as is in 0 dollars in Steam. Mass giveaway will make this game be added "retroactivly" to the list. And since these GAs werent BEFORE that giveaway they will all be changed to 0 CV. Whenever that may happen is another story. Ive got a support ticket that says 3 months because one of my GAs went from $20 to 0 because it was removed from the Steam store. Hoping they would fix that sometime. >.>

not a mass giveaway from here won't get it added to the list, mass giveaways from elsewhere will though. so it's still not the same circumstances.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, i get the frustration with this sort of thing but thats level 0 for you, the ones that arnt being regifted are being sold >.> (not all obviously but out of my first 10 GAs i believe i have 5+ that werent activated in their account, its horrible)

may they all lose their steamgifts accounts for being ungreatful. maybe there should be some sort of week ban on doing a GA for a game you just won? hmmmmm i think that may be something useful

yeah, user reports can work, but on a mass GA like that if too many people are reporting them it just gums up the system with too much of a backlog for support. i personally prefer they get caught on their next win instead though, so they lose out on that win as well. it's a little bit mean, but imo they earned that additional loss. xD

It's absolutely correct of you to report them for Non-activated/Regifting won games, Support will close the user reports as they get to them (much slower than reroll reports) but comments are disabled so they won't be able to reply to them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

the issue is support cannot do anything about it for 7days, 7days of people reporting thousands of winners with some of them being reported two to three times over by separate individuals.. support can't ever keep up with that massive amount of reporting all at once.. it's better to report them upon their next win, when they actually for certain have something they actually lose out on as well.. they lose the gift they won because they are suspended and get re-rolled on, rather then just getting them suspended when they weren't even a winner.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If they marked the game as received (which all of them have) then support can still suspend them for 'Not Activating Won Gift' I think... also they can actually check if the dev key matches the key they are giving away.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i know they can, but you are ruining my fun of making people additionally lose out on their wins.. you prefer people get suspended without losing out on anything but a few chances, whereas i prefer people to get suspended while they additionally lose out on something they have already won from me instead. xD

Lol well if they get suspended, you can still reroll all their wins for a month or so~ 😈🤘

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i'm not that type of person personally, if they've served their time and aren't still currently suspended i still let things slide if it's only been a couple weeks even. however you're completely right really, but not all users win a couple times a month or more. ^^

I had a level 9 winner with multiple wins, who I had warned 2 times in the past, rerolled on the 3rd time they won because they went ahead and got more multiple wins. After their suspension I tried to explain it to them again and they said ok I understand. A week later they won something from me again and apparently they had blacklisted me this time. Some people are thick & I don't mean in the torso area 😈🤘

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah, high levels are not an exception at all. some of them can just be better at hiding it then others. but yeah, there really are some thick people.

back before support was as fast as they are now at re-rolls and the average was closer to 5-7days, i'd have people message me asking why others are getting their wins but that user wasn't getting theirs, and i'd tell them i had a report in on them. surprisingly some cared and instantly redeemed everything at which point i'd close the ticket and send their gift out, but the majority would just blacklist me and get suspended & rerolled on.. some users just don't care..

There are currently over 20k of open user reports. Some of my open user reports for regifting are over a year old. It's obvious that support can't keep up with them.

It depends on the "Reason" you select I think, I had a 2 week old user report closed around 1 week later~ (not sure of the exact date). If you still have really old user reports you should just close them & check them to be valid they probably will never be able to process them.

In semi-serious cases, when I want to report someone or a group of people, I create a ticket in "Other" and add all the details and links in one post. In other words, I report multiple users by sending one ticket. If I stumble across more info or users that need reporting, I just add it as a comment on the ticket (you can comment on "Other" tickets).

However, I'm not sure I recommend doing this, as support may not appreciate that. I do it because I'm a smug asshole and I do it extremely rarely. :P

Saw a bunch of these and reported 2 myself - so will support do something about it then, suspensions/bans/etc? It was a developer giving away 14,900 copies of the game, it is NOT on the free list.

According to the rules, they have 7 days to activate won games. Or do you want support to break their own rules so you have a 0.000000001% chance more of winning games?

Thank you for filing the tickets. There is no elegant way to report more than a handful of people for the same offense. When we have a large number of illegitimate giveaways, we determine the appropriate "fix" after evaluating the severity of the situation and available options. We are aware of the issue you raised, and we are working on it. Keep in mind that winners have until the end of the grace period to redeem their wins and update their profiles.

Would it help if you would add some sort of function that you can not give away game x for a certain amount of time after you won the game x yourself in another giveaway? Just an idea to slow down regifts?

yes, it wasn't a question of whether or not it should be reported, i was just saying when you report such things, to do so using the proper method. as in, file a support ticket thru other instead of commenting inside a random thread about it. xD

edit: and JuicySteak is saying this particular case doesn't need an additional report on it, because someone else already has let them know about it. ^^
