Headset, which is good?

Some 7.1 headsets are true 7.1 not that simulated crap that 99% of surround sound headsets are, for example the headset i bought recently the Razer Tiamat 7.1 is true 7.1 and sound infinitely better than the simulated crap i have used before. The headsets i bought prior to this are the Turtle Beach X31 (was for my xbox) and Arctic Sound P531 which were the first 2 headsets i have owned and thought sounded great, that is until i got my Razers a couple months ago which absolutely destroyed my previous headsets in every way, i will never go back to simulated surround sound headsets or stereo in general again.

But to the op, if you have a recent motherboard with good 7.1 onboard audio (most recent motherboards have pretty good onboard audio) or a decent soundcard i highly recommend the Razer Tiamat 7.1 headset, it is a little expensive but well worth the price if you can afford it.

my siberia v2 are 2+ years old and still going strong.While I'm usually gentle, they did get some abuse now and then...

That's generally very true.

+1 Go find a decent pair of headphones (I heard open are the best, better soundstage) and just a relatively cheap mic.
