I always enjoy the build to a new season, and like most fans look optimistically at how my team will do. I kinda presume, even though a lot of you aren't from the UK or Ireland, that a fair amount would have at least a passing interest in the biggest league in the world.
I support Manchester United, used to people giving out a bit about that, and this is the best attacking squad we've had for a fair while. Gotta fancy top 2. Where do you think your team will finish? What league do you follow most if not EPL?

Man U is definitely a team to watch this season, but I can't help but hope that Mourinho flops a bit. He's way too big headed.

Bruges tend to produce some decent youngsters if I remember right, never watched a Belgian team outside of European competition though

The reigning champion, took them 11 years since the last time. Bruges youth does alright but mostly doesn't make it outside of Belgium or the Netherlands. We did have some decent players last couple of years: Nabil Dirar, Ivan Perisic & Carlos Bacca. Probably doesn't ring a bell but they were a pleasure to watch. Carlos Bacca is probably the most underrated striker ever.

I can never remember where Bacca was before Sevilla, so thanks for that. He wasn't helped by the years of Falcao being the main striker for Columbia, but seems to be getting a bit more recognition now. Big fan myself

Celtic supporter here so obviosly follow the SPL and i have a passing interest in Man U as my gf supports them, good luck this season. The EPL is only the biggest league in the world in the eyes of fans from England mate, im not having a dig as i support a team from one of the poorest leagues in europe but imo both the German and Spanish leagues are bigger and better than the EPL.

How you feeling bout Celtic under Rodgers? Fair amount of Celtic fans over here, most I've talked to not his biggest fan

Comment has been collapsed.

Rodgers first game was embarrassing to say the least, a 1-0 defeat to Lincoln Red Imps in the UCL qualifiers, but since then he has the team playing some nice football. he's made some good signings and they have fitted in well, its early days but im liking what i see so far and im cautiously optimistic. as for my comments about the EPL, i did mean in terms of quality, im not going to argue about viewing figures and entertainment value though.

I think I just don't like how he acts in interviews. Pretty sure he said he was happy after that loss. The signings have been decent though

i like the fact that he didnt publicly slag off his players after that game, Diela did that a few times and, imo, lost the dressing room as a result. under Diela Celtic looked clueless, since that early defeat Rodgers has us playing with pace, good passing, good movement off the ball, he changes the formation on the fly if things arent working and makes good substitutions at the right time to change games. lets face we, Celtic, will never be world beaters but if we play attacking, flowing football ill be happy. also would nice to qualify for the UCL :) fingers crossed. are you sure you just dont like Rodgers coz he used to be the Liverpool manager ;) i know how much Man U fans love Liverpool ;)

I like the way Rodgers teams play, but like Roberto Martinez at Everton, he never said anything bad about his team. Managers that win things usually know when to discipline players a bit, although I tend to disagree a lot of the times it's done publicly

I presumed he meant in terms of quality, cause it probably isn't the best in that way. It's definitely the most watched and followed, and in my eyes the most entertaining though

I don't live in England but I used to be a die hard Manchester United fan. It was a dream come true to see them live in my city during a Champions League match, it was so difficult to hide my true colours as I had to be in the host section of the stadium. I admit that I still screamed like mad when I saw Scholes (huge fan here). I just can't find time to follow football closely anymore but I'm still a supporter. Also thanks for the giveaway :D

The PL is a nice league and certainly the most exciting, with lots of competitors for the championship.
But honestly, I only tend to check its rankings. When I want to see the best football, I watch the Primera División or the Bundesliga. Imho it's a shame how money gets wasted in football these days. Be it in England, at PSG or some other places.

Money has just got insane now. At least in England all the top league teams are getting crazy money, whereas France only really has PSG

True that in England all get crazy money. But some are still a league of their own. See United, which got how much for its training grounds' name? Madness!

I don't think he played a great many games at his last few clubs but he scored twice for us on his debut. I think you must be optimistic with your new manager and signings, the money seems to have gone insane though. Somebody could have bought the whole of our league with the money that was paid for Pogba...

One of my oldest mates supports Portsmouth, and he was pissed seeing how much was paid. Plainly ridiculous money, though I did see a bbc article showing how it's only the same percentage of revenue paid as was for Rooney in 2004. Puts it into context a bit more, can't defend it though

Was going to do a similar thread! Still might + an event - watch this space.

United fan here too. Not been so pleased about a signing since Veron when we landed Pogba the other day. Said elsewhere that hopefully that's not a curse :p I'll say top 3, but I certainly think we could win it.

Looking forward to the season, could be an extremely competitive one. United, City and Chelsea all with big name managerial changes and big money signings as they look to improve. Klopp with his first full summer at Liverpool to shape their squad. Arsenal and Spurs still around, doing what they do. Everton have a nice group of players who underperformed last season and will be wanting to challenge for Europa League. West Ham will want to carry on their good work from last season. Haven't even mentioned the champions yet! Sadly I think Leicester might fall away, Southampton too.

Things have gone crazy with the money too when Bournemouth are signing players for £15m and Crystal Palace are in the running to sign someone for £25m. Exciting times ahead.

I'm both pleased and annoyed by the Pogba signing. On one hand, he should adapt easily and is a top player. On the other, there has been no lack of flops at United during the pl era, and not sure if Mourinho will do well in nurturing his talent.

It's going to be another tight year I'd say, City and United jump out for me, but top 6 is very hard to predict. Fancy West Ham to have a really good season. I like Bilic and Ayew and Payet should be great.

Even Swansea, signing Llorente and Borja Baston(who looked great last season), are splashing the cash

I'm curious where Leicester City F.C. will finish this season (I'm not a fan). After such a historic season it will be very hard to reach the top again, especially after the players transfers of the rival teams. I hope they prove me wrong though. It should be an exciting season in England.

Stoke City fan and I'm expecting another top half of the table finish, probably 9th as we appear to be claiming that position as our own. We've made some decent signings and probably need another central defender and striker to improve on 9th.

I've been liking how Stoke have been doing last couple years under Sparky. Some really good flair players and a pretty solid defense still

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sparky has been a decent manager and has evolved our style of play - although he has yet to reach the cult status of Pulis, a very underrated manager who many forget worked with an extremely limited budget, especially in the early years at Stoke. Shawcross is probably key and its becoming obvious that he has a long standing issue with his back that unless it gets sorted will limit his number of appearances.

Sadly I don't get to see them play live any more (just not practical with small kids) so restricted to seeing highlights on match of the day :(

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Pulis is a very solid manager, great tactically, just lacks flair. Doubt stoke would be solid defensively at the moment if not for him, cause sparky never been great in that area.
Been a fan of shawcross for a long time, he just gets injured anytime he gains momentum
