Hello everyone,

2020 is probably the longest, weirdest, most chaotic, hardcored rollercoaster of a year for a good number of us. Seriously, I barely remembered what happened in January and the months after that. (might only be because I developed an ultra-unhealthy sleeping habit in 2020)

But anyway, 2020 is finally coming to an end, so let us leave it on a happy, cheerful note. I want you to note down 3 things that you had accomplished, things that you had never done before, and simply things that made you happy, in 2020. This is so that you could come back anytime and say “Hey, 2020 wasn’t that bad of a year... I guess?”

Maybe this wasn't a good idea after all…

I’ll go first:
In 2020, I had…

  • Encountered a marvelous website with a kind-hearted, lovable community that is SteamGifts. It has only been around 6 months since I returned, I was so excited back then when I made the Lonely Quarantine Days event, it was the first time I got to be really involved in an online community full of strangers from around the world, it was truly an experience. The people I get to talk to in the community and the puzzles I created and solved were a hell of fun as well, and I don’t think I would ever get the chance to do all this if I haven’t found SG in the first place. 2020 would surely be different for me if it weren’t for this site, thank you everyone, thank you moderators, and thank you cg.

  • Gotten into game development, participated in game jams, and collaborated with strangers from around the world. The very first game I made all on my own is here, and the first game I collaborated with was Growing Broke for the GMTK game jam 2020. All these are pretty… let’s say not great, since it’s pretty much 0 budget, with pretty much not-so experienced dev, but what I can say is these are hella fun making.

  • Biked 24 km around an airport. Never thought I’d make it but here I am, making it twice (not on the same day ofc). It was very refreshing and fun, considering I’m not a sporty person as well.

And let’s leave all the bad stuff behind, locked in a chest never to be opened again. Continue staying safe, everyone. Let's hope that things go uphill from this point onwards for all of us, and happy early Christmas.

On the scale of 1-5 how was 2020?

It was decent for me. Three most noticable things :

  • Family bought a house with property, so for the first time in my life I'm living in the house instead of a flat (though it's not without it's problems and in the end it's still not mine, so I will be moving out eventually)
  • Started a new job after almost two years of searching for one. And pretty cool one at that - project coordinator in a technoogy related project which involves a lot of research into innovative ways at doing existing stuff and implementing it.
  • Took part into business incubator to start working at my own business idea. Got a grant of around 2000 EUR to build my product and have been working at prototype for several months now.

It all sounds awesome on paper, but I'm still counting this as decent year at best. I had nothing to do for the first part of the year due to covid, the second part I'm overworked as hell and my salary is way belove avarage. I have neglected my car and haven't done a single thing I planned on fixing. Of course social live has been near dead for the past months as we don't try to push it with meeting each other with pandemic going on same goes for romantic life which has been nonexistant . Well, got to look at it from bright side and at least I have a job at a time when a lot of people are screwed.

You forgot to add a link to your game :)

For me, it was 3/5. I managed to get better at some real-life stuff but lately some bad things happen to my sister which fucked up my newly developed good habits as well. I am trying to bring them back and i am positive i can, since i already taste the "reward" which is a happy life and satisfaction of success.

As a software engineering student I had no problems with working from home, so the restrictions didn't hit me much
The year was pretty cool so far
I bought an old house an renovated it over the summer (still not finished, but we can life in there 😅) and my wife got pregnant.
I'm coming close to finish my studies, should manage to be able before the baby comes, so I can get a job and support for my family

Thanks
It's over 80 years old 😅
But I inherited some money from my grandfather, so I decided to use that as base
And it was the right decision to do it now, because I don't think it will get easier once my little girl will keep us busy

Doesn't say much imo. I live in a 100 year old rental property, buying it would cost 400k which I don't have 😅

Smart move to use that money for a home, hope it'll serve you well :)

I'm currently writing my master thesis and if everything works alright, I should finish it shortly before the birth.
I then have some time to learn for the last big test, but I don't know if the company I'm currently writing the thesis for will keep me

We're halfway through December so I guess we should all be grateful the year of Doom is almost at an end at least.
Hope things look up for you, and everybody in the coming months.

it seems some people only managed to get through the year in anticipation of Cyberpunk 2077, so how do they feel now?

Heh well it got them through the year I guess. Disappointment is an unavoidable by-product of expectations, right?

You should take the test, at least just for fun

I understand your reasoning, and agree with you at some extent, but MBTI holds a little bit of truth underneath, and I personally find it fun as long as you're not basing your life on the results ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I study MBA and personnell management is a big topic that we study about. That includes different personalities and how they coexist and how to better manage different people. Throughout my studies I've been in many lectures by experts in the field. It's quit a shared opinion that any test you take at home is about 90% incorrect. Mostly you answer how you would like to be not as how you are actually. If you want to get correct assesment on your personality type you must go to an expert who can assess you as an uninterested party over several interviews and analysing you.

Even the most scientifically correct test wont show accurate results if not administered by an expert. As a simple example - a lot of people who think they are total introverts are actually more extroverted. And a lot of people who have many extrovert characteristics are actually introvert. Science is never simple and this is no less science then is chemistry.

It all is fun of course, but don't take these tests seriously and God forbid - don't make your life choices based on some internet test. I can also comment that my group of 30+ people have done countless of these personality tests and most of people get it wrong. Of course there are people who can answer thrutfully and get relatively accurare result, but it's still far from a result that one can take seriously.

Of course, that's why I said I just do it for fun, I don't base my life on the results at all.

How do I put it? Let's just say that anything above 2 wouldn't exist on my scale.

This year had been surprisingly good for me. I went back to school after 10 years of sitting on my ass at home and changing diapers for my grandmother and my niece. I'm finally actually going to acquire a profession in a field I can actually deal with, and covid is a godsend: remote format of studies is perfect for my sociophobia and my hatred towards metro. Still, voted 4 because I miss cinema and rock concerts horribly.

Yeah... I stepped on the scale for the first time in months, just to reset it because it was glitching. The good news is that I successfully reset the scale. The bad news is... well, let's just say I was not expecting the number it displayed.

For me it was half bad half good I guess? Had to do my last semester of university online (which I don't complain about because I didn't like being surrounded by people anyway) but going places is hard since I don't have a car atm, and I don't want to use the public transport because I live in a very high-risk zone so I've been just walking a lot lol. Also been sewing my own masks, clothes and baking a lot, so I guess I acquired those skills...

Btw, your game seems very interesting and I like the fact that you did your own voice acting a lot. Been wanting to do something similar but I have no idea how to code a game so I guess that's another skill I'll aim to learn!

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I think my biggest problem is family members. If it was up to me, I'd get rid of most of the candy and snacks in the house to eliminate temptation, but they keep buying and opening bags of chips, pastries, etc. It's hard to resist when they pour a bowl of chips and set it down next to you.

My second biggest problem is beer, but those are life sustaining, sanity maintaining calories I'm not ready to part with yet. ;)

  • I went to a Microcenter computer store for the first time ever and got an RTX 3070 waiting in line before the store opened, which will work great with my 5600X AMD rig shown here.

  • I took two different multi day vacations to a lake and then some mountains, both within driving distance where I am in the southern US. Loved it, and had some sense of normalcy in nature!

  • I miraculously won Fallout 4 here on SG and was pleasantly surprised how much gameplay I enjoyed and got out of it, more than any other single player game I've played on Steam! Shout out to the Quality Games Giveaway crew.

First half of the year was hell, I lost my grandpa to COVID-19 and life just sucked in general. My summer job was great and starting university was even better - the subjects I'm learning are really fun and I've gotten a new group of friends who I love very much :)

It's been a really busy, stressful year, and unfortunately that's not going to change for several more months. But at least everyone in my family is mostly healthy - my mother broke her arm, but she's recovering.

Three accomplishments, eh? Let's see...

  • I learned how to use a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). I'm still an amateur when it comes to it, but it's a start.
  • I wrote and recorded a song.
  • I won and beat MO:Astray, which was delightful. :)

Congrats on the game development and biking, btw. That's awesome!
