few days ago, browsing my Steam Feed, i've upvoted a status by robilar. then, we talked a little about "where a Status would go", once written, after a month or two. and it seems that there's no place... it will just disappear.

and what about comments you've made? and that long, long chat? or... (and this is for Timo) which screenshots you upvoted? just found this:

https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/

there, you'll find a lot of useful information about the data Steam collects about you. for how long infos are kept, depends on type of data.
have a few juicy examples:

My Uploaded Content Votes
https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/MyUGCVotes
(UGC stands for User-Generated Content, just put the FileID number https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=here)

Your Vote and Tags on Reviews
https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/GameReviewVotesAndTags
(also, note how "Funny" is treated as a tag)

Discovery Queue History
https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/DiscoveryQueueHistory

Interactive Recommender <-- new!
https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/InteractiveRecommender

and much, much more...
does it worth a bookmark?

edit: changed Category, Off-Topic should be a better fit

Awesome share! The help page has had all kinds of useful stuff since the privacy act awhile back. I remember look at it a long time ago when it first added, but either didn't catch or notice those or a lot of the other cool info they've got added there.

It can be useful, but it's also pretty scary to see that they keep all these pieces of information. And there are also empty sections, are they really empty or do they have data that only Steam support has access to?

duh, you use steam service
so they obviously have "something"
that includes other company

nothing wrong with that unless they use it for "malicious intent"

I do not understand your "other company", I didn't talk about that.
I knew that Steam keeps track of what we do with its services - I am not naive - but that remained a vague notion until now. When I look at the content of the first link then I really realize how far it goes. Whether it's normal or not, I find it excessive and it annoys me (even if it's a common practice on nearly all websites) - and I think it's normal to be annoyed by that.

it's about every online shop in the web (even steam is online shop lol), every IT company (google, apple etc), even outside of the internet. as long you've used their service, they have more or less your data

but yeah, i find it annoying at first too, but as long there's no sensitive data inside and i know the company to be trusted, then i find it less annoyed. but still my annoyance level is quite low in the first place, like i care if other knew i were playing ecchi games (actually i dont play, it's my idle card is playing it). or my address/CC number since i live in 3rd world country where there's nothing much going on for IT security in the first place

Whether it's normal

and

I think it's normal to be annoyed

i'd say "yes" to both. and first one, "Steam keeps track of what you do" is even... much more normal :D

also: it may depends on "how" that data is used, by the services/sites you use.
sometimes, you don't even think about it, like, you browse and use a site... "normally", without thinking "hey, can i trust you?". in my very humble opinion Steam is a trustable one.

Tip of the Ice Berg.
Around here our Water and Electric meters track our usage. They phone home once a day. I can see when we shower, when we flush a toilet, when we sleep. I have no doubt our internet provider tracks usage also. Our Android phones track where we've been and when. I looked up a restaurant name from 2 years ago. Flipped thru the days in December until I saw the blue circle of us walking to the restaurant and back.

Of course they have all this information, duh. It is nice to see some of the categories of data they collect though.
As always, treat Steam like you would Facebook - at the end of the day, knowledge data is power.

Very useful and intersting share, icaio. Thank you!
Some of the links were familiar to me but the history of votings are especially interesting in this whole suspension affair. The most pesky thing is, that you cannot remove your votings, You can only change them to positive, negative or funny.and I don't know what Valve had in mind as they designed this feature. It's devious and concerning.

Nice share, never knew I could go back and see all the stuff I've put in my shopping cart, that could be useful in a sale though.

Apparently I have not found a single review "funny" in over 2 years. This page is like a deep look into my soul and reflection on the state of my life over time.

On the other hand, prior to 2018 I mostly voted about 50/50 between helpful "Yes" and helpful "No". Since then, I have voted "Yes" for 90% of reviews that I've rated. So I'd like to think that while I am finding less joy in the world, I'm also not letting the stupid stuff bother me.

They even keep your deleted comments.. I'd expect with this GDPR thing you'd have more control over what you don't want to be there, alas..

EDIT: This kind of record I'd like over here i.e Comments and posts you've made here.

Nice.
I hoped to find a listing of the game time, with an entry per each game session and corresponding timestamps, but I don't see it there.
