Not really. It has a few jump scares, but nothing creepy. I felt FEAR 3 does the creepy atmosphere better. FEAR 2 also is an improvement in that. FEAR 1 was just jump scare stuff.

It's not really "shit my pants" material. It does have it's freaky moments with Alma, but nothing that'll make you shit your pants. Great game, nonetheless.

It has its moments. Nothing really that scary. Creepy at times. From what i remember, the enemy AI was really good.

It's not scary. Nowhere near as scary as I had hoped. Still a pretty good game though.

Won't scare the macho posturing people, but it's a good game besides the scares anyway.
Also, there's one ladder that I often just jumped down and took the fall damage when I replayed the game. :D

Its more of a creepy atmosphere pulled off very well then just being outright scary.

I dont remember ever being scared playing through FEAR (I got it for PC on release). I dont really like horror games, and I stuck with it fine so it cant really be that scary :-p
I just loved pinning my enemies to the wall with that spike gun.

The people that say that's it's flat out not scary are lying.

It's all about the atmosphere and the way the horror is presented. The game pulls something new and unexpected and then never does it again, yet you'll expect it to come at any moment all throughout to the end. That is just well done horror.

If you get showered in jump scares it becomes predictable. When it's not predictable you know it's good horror. Many horror tropes are present, but that's how horror is, really. You can't bend many rules.

I just played the game, and at certain parts, it scared the living hell out of me!
But what a masterpiece! Absolutely brilliant game! The gameplay, the atmosphere, it's just perfect.
I guess there is no turning back now, i hate horror games, but this is just too great! :D

It has it's moments once in a while but not really scary. It gets predictable really fast (it's a good shooter nonetheless).

It's not scary at all. You run around dull grey offices and get "scary" flashes over your screen for no reason.

If you want a really tense game then play Condemned: Criminal origins. It's from the same guys who made FEAR, it even uses the same engine, but it's much more entertaining and scary.

More suspensefully atmospheric than full-on rubber underwear material.
