No not really. I've made a bunch of successful threads without any kind of giveaway on them, nor anything else. That being said, if I offered some kind of reward I'm sure more poeple will have participated.

Most puzzles are disguised as jokes, not the jokes need a hidden giveaway.

there is a lot of times i would have liked to make a joke thread or show something funny, but i have missed so many chances because im afraid i may get hated by everyone for not putting a hdden giveaway

Well, I imagine creating a troll thread will be considered spam, but if there's a giveaway in it, then it isn't really considered spam. Otherwise the thread will be deleted or you'll be suspended for a day or two I'd imagine. Generally threads that are informative or create a discussion seem to be okay, but making threads just for the heck of making a thread doesn't really constitute to anything at all. Kinda like this thread.

This is the SteamGifts forum. Threads which are started here for little or no purpose, threads with nothing worthwhile to discuss, in other words, threads which won't be missed when the mods close them, are rightly considered spam. There are sites which allow people to spew whatever random thoughts come to mind, uninhibited, out into the public fora like so much intellectual diarrhea, but this is not one of them.

Heh, lately (as in, in all the threads I made except the very first one quite a while back) I've always been hiding either a puzzle or outright the giveaway link in the threads I make even though they're usually information about a sale... and then I get pissed off when people apparently don't read my OPs and miss the blatantly obvious hint that there is something hidden there...
Guess I just like it that way. ^_^

the people in this forum are already so good at finding hidden giveaways, that they just know when to search for the links immediately by only reading the topic!
