Cool idea, thanks for the list. I loved litter inferno and it took around 2.5 hours for me to beat in one night.

Nope. I just played for a long time. I didn't look up anything because I didn't want to cheat

Little Inferno was like 3 hours long.
Kentucky Route Zero (or at least, what's currently out of it) is 2 to 3 hours long.
I've heard that Gone Home is also very short, but I've yet to beat it, so I don't have an exact time.

yeah that's probably a better estimate. I personally think that's it's worth every minute though. I really loved that game for some reason.

i did too. it was well worth the $10 i spent on the HIB, in my opinion.

That's an awesome game, it's a shame I couldn't beat it without a walktrough, too hard for me lol.

If you use a guide I guess you mean. Lucas Arts games take around 4h on the second play-through (I loved replaying Monkey Island 1 and I remember timing it and it would take me 4.5h to beat it without skipping any dialogue), once you know the solution to all puzzles, but the first run will take you much more than that.

Nice topic. I'm actually doing something similar and trying to complete games that take less than 6 hours. I'm starting out with The Blackwell Legacy. Some short games that I've enjoyed:
Alan Wake: American Nightmare (4 hours)
Evoland (4 hours)
Portal (3.5 hours)
Home (1 hour)

Portal (Around 55 Minutes)
I haven't really attempted to "speedrun" any other games.
Mirror's Edge is also a fun short game, though I've only done a single playthrough of it and didn't really time myself.

And I could add the roguelike genre, you do as many runs as you'd like but a run is usually 1 hour long:
Arcade style could fit you too. You make as much runs as you want, often score based. I like Puppygames for those:

Say WHAT!? Analogue in 3 hours? You gotta replay it man... 100% it. It took me about 12 hours to 100%, well worth it. Bastion took me around 12 hours aswell, and I didn't do that 100%........ I tried, but it didn't go so well, so I just gave up on doing Bastion 100%. Hotline Miami was 7 hours for me, and I only did the "main story". Amazing game(s) though. I like Dear Esther aswell, that only took me an hour, I need to replay it however.

I did get 100% on Analogue. But I got most of the achievements on the first playthrough which took me about 3-4 hours. The longest was seeing all the different logs, and this one took me a couple of shots because I was doing something wrong for one of them, but overall I spent something like 9 hours tops for it.
Bastion is more time consuming if you want to get all the achievements, especially the challenge rooms with 3 bazillion gods activated. But the rest is quite straightforward.

Oh yeah... I checked howlongotbeat.com, and then I realised that i spent about 5 hours on my first "playthrough" (only got about 40% of the way - I was reading slowly/leaving it on when not playing, or something, I dont' know really... It was quite some time ago) then I started playing it from the beginning, to get 100% on it. I have Hate Plus now aswell, you should check that out, you're probably waiting for a sale or something, but nontheless it's a big improvement on Analogue in speakning of UI and all that, and you still got Hyun-ae to flirt with :3

Yeah, waiting for a sale. I knew there would be an expansion, but this seems like a stand-alone game, and the price is fitting (and too high imo). But I'll eventually get to it.

try sniper elite nazi zombie army .-. 3,5 hours for me to finished it

If only we could link our steam accounts to that site and see how long each game on our libraries are..

I need games like those. I play a long game for 10 hours and lose interest 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through.

Puzzle Agents 1 + 2, The Ship, DLC quest, each freaking individual Sam and Max,

Like you said, most games under 4 hours long are built with huge replay value. Would be interesting to open another thread with a slightly longer hour limit as well, to provide those games that aren't necessarily designed for multiple playthroughs, but are still short enough for backlog killing. Mark of the Ninja, Spec Ops: The Line, etc.

cave story is a pretty fun game thats around the 4 hour mark i think depending on how fast your are...
Comment has been collapsed.
And it also rewards multiple play-throughs if that's your thing :)
There's several points of no return on the way to the different endings. And the game gives hints on most of those. After you passed them.

might be more like 5 hours idk, but I thought super panda adventures was pretty good from groupees bm9 bonus.

Some games that weren't mentioned in OP:
Gunpoint (3 hours)
Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP (3 hours)
Analogue: A Hate Story (Took me 4 hours to 100%, depends on how quickly you read)
Hotline: Miami (4 hours)
Portal (2-3 hours)

4 hours to 100%? Uhh... I think you skipped some there, or watched a walkthrough or something... Uh, nevermind. Apparently Completionist for that is 5 and a half hours, and I did it on 12. Well, I guess I read slowly, and I played it the first time very long ago, about 40% done with slow reading, and just a few weeks ago I decided to 100% from there, probably had around 5 hours in it already when i started from ground 0 a few weeks ago. Hotline Miamia, Analogue, great games!

I used a text walkthrough to 100% the game (my first playthrough was blind). I wasn't as interested in the gameplay as I was in reading all of Christine Love's writing. But I do consider myself a fast reader, as well.

I've had such gaming ADD lately, that the games I seem to enjoy the most and actually complete, are those that are completed in just a couple hours (though many have replay value through unlocks, different modes, etc). Even if they're not the best games, it's nice to get a game "out of the backlog" and actually finish something. Care to share some decent games in this category? I'm sure I own some others. Here's some that I've completed.
