Depends on where you are and how you define "relationship"

If they want to have sex, then yes. In most western countries the age of consent is sixteen. If one of the people is over 18 and the other is under the age of consent, the younger cannot legally agree to have sex, and the whole thing is treated as something called "statutory rape". Look it up.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well relationship is not all about sex.
EDIT: those relations aren't go so long who make it only for sex!!

Sure. That's why I said "if they want to have sex". Besides, not many young people can hold out for long. I know.

4,5 year is too much i guess, age difference should be like 1 or 2 year.

depends, in this era girls don't look at age, they look at Money, Luxury etc. .

Age difference shouldn't matter. Although, if one is over 18, then the age difference should be over that age and not younger than 18. I say that because in my state legal age is 18, but you have to be careful because if it is known that one of you is under that age, it's automatically assumed that you are having sex. So you have to tread lightly even if you aren't having sex. Sad truth, especially since in the old days people were getting married at 13 or 14 and considered "old maids" if still single at 16. Although, my sister's father did try sending her to mexico to get married when she was 13, but that didn't work out.

It's not the number of years between the people that matters, it's the maturity.
Comment has been collapsed.
It would matter if it was a 4.5 year old and a 9 year old, in this case...I don't really think it matters :P

That is true if you don't understand the difference between "physical / sexual attraction" and "love". To have sex with someone it takes only a spark of passion (and I woulnd't feel proud to have sex with a girl that is impressed of an elder male giving her attention), but to get in love with a person on a "different level of maturity", I find impossible.

im in my 30's 5 years is nothing, the older you get the shorter itll seem, certainly i dont see the harm it may be illegal to date a 15 year old in some places but it theyre consenting and no i dont care what the law say the minute you can bear children theirs a chance you will laws or not and prosecuting consenting relationships while not catching actual rapists/murderers to strikes me as criminal itself but thats just me im also the sorta person that literally is mystified by how what a gay couple do is anyone elses business and how you can convince yourself a person you could have kids with at no effort is different because their tan happens to be a bit more permanent than yours honestly humanity makes me want to vomit some days, anyway rant over does a person good to rant now and then, better ranting on here than actually impressing my dislike of racists/homophobes in a physical manner

yea, the elder she is, the more adventure for the guy :)

I don't know if you would ask such a question in a public forum, but there are more than enough who do it anyway.

If the boy thinks that the girl is mature enough to handle a relationship long-term and they are happy together, then sure, go for it.
BUT. If the girl is immature and one of them insists on sex, then it could end badly for the boy if they have a falling out, even if she is of legal age according to the local law.
I'd recommend for the guy to think it through.

Well age has nothing to do with maturity, i've met 20 yr who still behave like teenagers and only care about party all night, and 15 yr old that are really focussed on their life and studies.

Wait, so if I, being 16, were to date a girl who is 14, then it's wrong? Because this logic states I can only date 15...

So I read through these, and I have a question about rule number one... What if, a Bro is going on a float trip, and another Bro asks the first Bro if he wants to partners in the canoe. If Bro number one says yes, but then is asked by a chick in a bikini if he wants to be her partner, is the Bro allowed to ask the second Bro if it's okay to change partners? Because I did this... Ended up going back because she found someone else after I said yes...

Well in many countries it is illegal (although not if you keep it to just "dating")

While I respect your right to your opinion, I totally disagree with it. If two people are old enough and mature enough to understand and accept what all is involved in a marriage, then they should be allowed to marry with the consent of their parents. Age shouldn't even be a factor.
Of course, when it comes to maturity and understanding what all is involved in marriage, many people fail to qualify....

This happpened to me in my youth, i was 20 and she was 3.5 years younger, not really an issue, just try to avoid public displays of love, cause if you get caught, even if it wasn't against her will, she's still underage and it's not gonna end nice for you.

When my sister was 15, she was attracted to college guys, said the kids on her school were so inmature; so it's more common than you think.
Comment has been collapsed.
At that age, I say it is bad. If we would be talking about 25 year old man and a 20 year old woman, then it would be fine. But a girl with age of 16 is still just a kid.
I would think of the guy being pathetic and trying to get a thing going on with a naive little girl. It would be more using her, rather than a serious relationship.
Comment has been collapsed.
While I understand where you are coming from, this is a generalization. I have known a few 16-year-olds with emotional and mental maturity far greater than many of the people I went to college with.
That said, in almost every case someone at 16 is NOT mature enough for a serious relationship, especially with someone much older.
Comment has been collapsed.
It could be a fully mature girl who prefers dating much older man. (I didn't say it's worse or better than the case you mentioned, to me it's just as bad as the case of the guy being manipulative)

the age difference does not matter but the fact that she might be only 16-17 would be a problem to some people. It's certainly not a concern of mine but PDA or even sexual intercourse might get you in a lot a trouble depending on where you are living right now and the legal system there.

then you are totally fine if you are all honest to each other. I was afraid that the girl might be in a phase of being into older guy but if she's not then I don't see it as a problem to me or anyone else.

There's an even larger age difference between me and my boyfriend and that doesn't bother anyone I know, the problem is more with how young she is. At least in the country I live in. If you were both in your 20's then 4 years wouldn't even be looked at as odd. But since she's just a young teen the whole thing is literally seen as a form of rape.
There's a big difference between a 4 year old and a 9 year old, and there's a big difference between a 14 year old and a 19 year old. Not so much a 24 and a 29 year old though. Those early years involve a lot of rapid maturation and can be a little crazy. ::shrugs:: good luck to your hypothetical friend.

Oh my god, what are u talking about is a 16 years old girl!!!! i dont really care how u want to write it down to not seems awkward, but hey, this is illegal for a reason! She is a child yet, and no matter if she think that she want it, u gotta be the smart one, who need to know what is right, and what isnt. all i say is that u have no right to take advantage of her stupidity

Funny you should say that, because the age of consent in Hungary is 14.

Nobody is mature at 16 because it is physiologically impossible. Your brain is developing well into your early 20's, and I have met alot of people I considered 'mature' when we were both younger, but those same people will be drastically different at 24 or 25.
Comment has been collapsed.
You are changing throught your entire life. Heck even a 40 year old can be mentally immature. I can't see your point...for instance there is a girl who you would consider mature, but you wouldn't date her, because she will be even more mature(or not) 5 years later? This is absurd.
A person's maturity level isn't exact science, it is determined by experiences.
Comment has been collapsed.
You're right about how anybody can be immature at any age, but it is all relative. For example that immature 40 year old most likely came a long way since he was 16.
And maybe maturity isn't exact, but it is largely rooted in science, and experiences affect people differently based on age.
I prefer to date people close to my maturity level so I can actually have meaningful conversation with them. It's not absurd at all. I have never met a 16 or even an 18 year old who shares my maturity level, so it could never be fulfilling to date someone of that age. If you can't understand that, I hope you do when you get older.

The guy who said "Nobody is mature at 16 because it is physiologically impossible. Your brain is developing well into your early 20's" is a starting point. There is also the matter of experience. Going through puberty, you fuck up a lot. You make bad decisions. It's how you learn how not to fuck up and act as an adult.
In summary "What's wrong with that?" is that it makes you sound like the kind of sick fuck you are outraged at being portrayed as. It's not like I know you or have any reason to say this except.. That's what you sound like, dude.

Honestly? My opinion of them would begin relatively low.
There's an enormous discrepency between maturity levels of the average person at 15-16 and 19-20. This hypothetical couple would be composed of two people at very different stages in their lives. One is finally stepping into their own light (out of the shadow of their parents) and the other is trying to find their place in an adult world. A 4-5 year age difference doesn't seem like much, but for a 16-year old someone who is 4 years old has 25% more life experience. The difference is significant, except in the extremely rare instances of an extremely mature 16-year-old.
Additionally, in most states in the US (I am uncertain about internationally) it is illegal for someone who is 15-16 to be in a relationship (at least, a sexual relationship) with someone who is over 18. Other states have very specific exceptions.
Finally, if the 16-year-old girl does what so many women do these days and either sends self-taken nudes to her boyfriend or allows him to take such photos, they are both likely running afoul of child pornography laws.
Thus, in almost every case, I would urge against any such relationship. So what I would think of the older person in that relationship is that they're taking some serious risks, and that the relationship is unlikely to be equal.

I wonder if there has been a case where the person being lured to the house was pretending to be like 30 years old and was actually 14 or something. In that case, shouldn't the girl at the house who was pretending to be a teen be arrested?
