May 15 2004.
I had a cd copy of Half-Life 1, and I heard that if you connected a steam account to it you got all the other games (like Counter Strike and opposing force) for free. It took 3 days on a dial up modem to do it.

10 years, for some reason I decided no to activate it until 7th of February 2014, while I remember already in September knew about Steam.
PS: Although there were no point in activation, as the only game was Counter-Strike (and Half-Life as part of it) and best CS servers were non-steam (also illegal with different CS version).

11 years. 16/09/2003 - I missed out on 4 days of Steam! (although most people hated it back then :D)

Only 1 year, and I already have 670 games. It's a bit scary... I joined Steam in order to activate my first physical copy of Skyrim Legendary Edition (a game I liked modding/playing so much that I decided to shell out the full price for it), and ultimately giving up pirating forever.

I got into steam late because I used to play mostly non-steam games when I was younger and the steam games that i did play i used to play a local lan cafe that had their own cafe steam accounts... i remember wanting cs so bad for ages but could never afford it.. haha only having enough money each day for a porkroll or two if i was lucky that week or month... but then i think i saw one day they were giving portal out for free and i was like woah this cannot be true a free game who would ever do that... and what was this steam i was young and probably still in my teens highschool.. so i joined steam.. the rest is history... skip forward now a couple of years later and we get so many free games nowadays and most of them are ones that we do not even want haha

I want to meet the olders of steam :P
Mine starts the release date of Half-life 2 back in 2004, that time i bought an ATI GPU and inside i found a card with a code that forced me to create a steam account, i said WTF is that, to play a game you need to open that crap?
Anyway that code was a good deal at the time, i got for free all the valve games (Half-life, H-L: Blue Shift, H:L: Opposing Force, Half-life 2, HL2 Deathmatch, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress Classic, Counter-Strike, Ricochet, Deathmatch Classic and maybe CS:S i don't remember. Only those games was available on steam back in 2004.
Giveaway: I have one spare Contraption maker gift and i'm willing to give it to the person with the highest years of service badge who replied here the next 4 hours. I add the winner after to give the game. Thanks.
NOTE: I will check the birthdate on the badge for the obvious winner. if there more then 1 with the same date i will check the steam id digits and if im correctly the digits count upwards.
EDIT: We had 3 people with the same date 12/09/2003 (which is the creation/start of the steam service) so i made my choice based on steam ID.
EDIT: Giveaway Ended, Winner added and gift received!
Thanks everyone!
