I want to meet the olders of steam :P

Mine starts the release date of Half-life 2 back in 2004, that time i bought an ATI GPU and inside i found a card with a code that forced me to create a steam account, i said WTF is that, to play a game you need to open that crap?
Anyway that code was a good deal at the time, i got for free all the valve games (Half-life, H-L: Blue Shift, H:L: Opposing Force, Half-life 2, HL2 Deathmatch, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress Classic, Counter-Strike, Ricochet, Deathmatch Classic and maybe CS:S i don't remember. Only those games was available on steam back in 2004.

Giveaway: I have one spare Contraption maker gift and i'm willing to give it to the person with the highest years of service badge who replied here the next 4 hours. I add the winner after to give the game. Thanks.

NOTE: I will check the birthdate on the badge for the obvious winner. if there more then 1 with the same date i will check the steam id digits and if im correctly the digits count upwards.

EDIT: We had 3 people with the same date 12/09/2003 (which is the creation/start of the steam service) so i made my choice based on steam ID.

EDIT: Giveaway Ended, Winner added and gift received!

Thanks everyone!

My main account is 9 years, to be 10 years on November 16th. Funny thing tough, I have a secondary account that is at 11 years.

It's a long story, but basically a number of years back, when I tried to register my ancient Half-Life Platinum Pack (that I bought back in 1998) to my main account, steam support wouldn't let me. They created a 2nd account for me with all the games from the pack in it(plus they included blue shift, which wasn't orginally part of the platinum pack I had). I still don't really know why they couldn't add the pack to my main account, as support was rather unwilling to explain it.

Anyways, when they introduced the service badges, that account came with a registered in September 2003 badge, even though it was really created in like 2007 or 2006.

11 years, September 18th, 2003 for me. Was playing mods of Half Life 1, and was forced to go to Steam for server authentication purposes when the standard of the day was use direct IP, or a game server/favorites/browser program like gamespy though there were some other ones I liked better though I don't remember what they were called now as they died off pretty quickly once Steam (and it's derivative services from other companies) became the new standard.

You will find a lot of guys with 12th september 2003 because thats the date steam started to count it.

A lot of accounts are in fact older than that, but there is no way to check for it when you REALLY created your account.

The badge displays the date you created the account on

It does NOT for accounts OLDER than 12th september 2003.

That was my point...I might suggest reading before replying.

And are you sure about that? If you do have proof then I'd like to see it.

From the wiki page:
The Steam client was first made available for public beta testing in January 2003 during the beta period for Counter-Strike 1.6, for which it was mandatory to install and use

I participated in that beta, the "steam client" was just a tool that loaded counter strike...nothing more...no shop, library or anything else.
Which means I had a steam account BEFORE 12th september 2003 and so did a lot of other people.

You can tell the age by the amount of digits in the ID.

I think I'm probably a pretty good contender for this, considering I created my Steam account about three hours after it was released :p

As others have pointed out my account says it was created on September 12th 2003, but I may have one of the lower SteamID numbers, if you're using that to determine the winner.

2 years now.

I joined Steam to download the demo for Just Cause 2. I loved it and played it all day long. One day, it went on sale, and I just couldn't resist purchasing it. It was my first game bought on Steam, and 390+ gameplay hours later, I still think it's the best buy I ever made...

On the 2015 Valentine's Day, it will be my 10th anniversary. I can't believe it was that long ago when I went on my first date with Alyx Vance in Half Life 2.

Hm. This thread actually made me go try to retrieve my first Steam account which I had long since forgotten the account name and password to. The e-mail address associated with the account had also been deleted. I decided to try to get it back by recreating that e-mail address exactly, requesting the account ID from Steam, them changing the pw. Surprisingly, worked. Turns out if I had just stuck with that account I would have an account that was started January 10, 2007. So 7 years and 9 months old. Instead I have an account created July 2, 2010. Sad :(

Original account was made because people from an MMO wanted a way to talk to me outside of game and apparently they used Steam to chat a lot. This one was made so that I could play Borderlands with a friend (who eventually became and still is my boy friend).

Clever move and luckily your email address was not taken, gmail still not allowing deleted account names for register by others for privacy/security reasons.

You see people, steam is practically for other uses also :P

Yeah, luckily I had used hotmail back then for that account. Also, I wasn't the one who deleted my e-mail. I believe hotmail deleted that e-mail for being inactive for too long so it'd be right asshole-ish of them to not let me have my old address back.

I'm pretty new at 3 years. It started when I bought a hard copy of Supreme Commander 2, but had to make a Steam account and register it in order to play. Since then, I've amassed a nice amount games. :)
