14' is too small for my taste for games, but if you travel around a lot with it, to work or uni or whatever, i guess it's good enough.
I got an 18.4' HD laptop.
You might get some money back by sending the computer back to the factory to have windows uninstalled ( before you activate it ), how much money you have back depends on the version of windows ( familly, pro, etc ), and then you can install windows by yourself if you already have it. It's a bit of trouble but i got around 70-80$ back this way.

Not a huge amount, but enough that a laptop is far better than a desktop. Display size really isn't a huge deal to me, I've actually had a 13 inch display before and didn't mind it one bit.

Lenovos are generally more expensive that what you actually get.

I feel that is actually worth it because they tend to use better parts and have incredibly good cooling compared to most laptops. Lenovos rarely feel warm to the touch, every other laptop does. I've had my current one for 3 years and it's still running well, I just need an upgrade.

Lenovos have ok quality hardware. If you take an Acer, heck, they are super cheap, but their life expectancy is shorter mostly due to overheating. Asus have a good quality/price as well.
After i would recommend to look for that laptop on the net, for promotions etc, rather than buying it directly from them. 100$ discounts are easy to get this way.
And of course google ( or rather ixquick or duckduckgo, cuz google sucks ) the model with the keywords issues, overheating, etc

Actually, I was looking at it direct from the website because they have $520 off the laptop right now, that one normally runs around $1300. Already checked a few other spots and the best I saw elsewhere for that model was $999.
Asus is actually about the only other brand I'd consider, but I only have personal experience with their routers, haven't known anyone with an Asus laptop for an actual idea of how good they are and not seeing a whole lot of good deals.

Playing games, web browsing, stuff like that. I actually tend to play games windowed and don't mind small, I just want a normal sized keyboard and that looks to be perfectly fine.

inb4 alienware
Just get whatever is best for the price, has the specs you want, and has good reviews from any company you like. Check newegg just to be sure.

I prefer HP laptop, not too bad themselves.
HP doesn't have a lot of top tier laptop but overall it's good.

That's the weakness of laptops, you gotta choose a package instead of being able to check and choose every element yourself in a tower.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, but a tower isn't exactly portable and I do need that much. Plus choosing each element also means that I'd have to build myself and I don't have a copy of Windows or a monitor, so that's an added $200+ right there.

If your budget allows you
This can wreck my Asus g75 that I bought for clearance sale for 900$ (normal price is 1500++$)
ALso 1 more thing, don't overlook the audio hardware, I'm so disappointed with my g75 having a VIA Audio driver, It sucks and has a lot of distortion in bass

It possibly could, but I'm also in the US and that site only can ship within Canada and accept Canadian cards, but good info to know on a computer that might suit, never heard of that brand before, do they tend to be pretty good?

I sure wasn't finding an equal deal, was all around $1200, which is definitely beyond what I can afford, especially if I have to pay sales tax (it's around 8.25% where I live, though Newegg doesn't seem to charge tax).

You can do much better in terms of GFX cards. Try to go for a Toshiba, ASUS or if you're really desperate an ACER.

I admit, graphics cards is something I know squat about. What sort would I want to look for? Also keep in mind I rarely play AAA games and graphics being on low doesn't bother me one bit. I just want to get away from the Intel ones for sure.

No Acer, seriously.
Had 3 of them. They all burned. That moment where you are like "is that smoke coming out of my computer ?"
And i'm pretty good with computers. I write code and make websites and stuff, so i know it's not on my end ( except one i overheated while trying to crack some unsolved ww2 cypher, but it still should have shut down instead of overheating ).
A computer should always stay cool when you touch it, that ensures less issues and a longer lifespan.
For graphic cards i like nvidia because they are linux compatible, have CUDA, and are generally speaking ok, AMD is the other possible choice, possibly with slightly better performance for the same price, the AMD brand has regular technical issues but those days they are ok and you might expect either a reasonable quick update or a doable workaround in case of a problem.
If you go for a 2G without caring about good graphics, with one of those 2 guys you shouldn't have anything to worry about, just grab whatever comes with your other wants ( brand, price, screen size, country... )

Brand quality and performances are two different things. Brand quality mainly ensures that your performances will last and that you won't end up with smoke going out of your computer, or a charger or battery dying after one year, or a dead screen after 2 years because of the continuous closing/opening of the laptop screen etc.
Whether you have an fps drop or not depends on the hardware power and options, not on the brand.

If you're going to get a Lenovo, get a Thinkpad. They're other stuff is just average. I'd personally go with an Asus.

Ooh, that looks really nice and the price is pretty good. Though have to add a bit more for OS but has the advantage that I can keep Windows 7 at least because I hate 8 with an immense passion.

i recommend Asus/MSi and i don't recommend Toshiba.. ever. acer is cheapest but i wouldn't recommend that either. Dell is nice but i really disliked their recent laptops except alienware. Lenovo is good for both working and gaming. and Razer.. just bluergh!

And I'm eying this right now.
I've never really been all that picky about graphics, I just mostly want something that is going to run games without a ton of lag and I'm cool with low settings as long as it runs smoothly. My current laptop runs most of what I'm interested in pretty decently, with a few games that are a bit laggy.
My current laptop is this for reference.
Mostly wondering if the one I'm eying looks good and is a good price, or if there is something better. Yes, I know a desktop would get me more bang for my buck but I prefer the portability of a laptop. Looking at spending around $800 at most.
Edit: After some more looking around also eying this one and this. Would prefer to keep below $800, but I can possibly go up to $1000 so this would work and the reviews look good as well.
Also this Asus looks pretty good, has the best display and HDD within my budget.
