Bored again so I was wondering if anyone was had been in a closed beta test for a game or a product before.

And no early access games do NOT count.

The only one I was a part of was a closed beta tester for the original Guild Wars. That was some fun stuff.

And, as per the recent norm, here's a small GA in the form of a puzzle. Yeah, I make you work for your entries.

My name is listed on one not fully released Gothic mode Replay to honor my help with testing. Helped to test some other ones, but not in enough time invested to worth mention.

I was invited to beta test Rainbow Six Extraction by Ubisoft because I registered for it, sadly my laptop at that time wasen't strong enough so I wasen't able to participate. I also think I was invited to the beta for Ghost Recon Breakpoint by Ubisoft once again, but for that one I can't find the email, same story though. For those curious, here's how the email looked like for the invitation: https://imgur.com/lZuuPiD

My name is listed in Worms Ultimate Mayhem and may have been in Worms Revolution, but I missed a forum topic. I was in the closed beta of Worms Clan Wars and The Escapists 2. I also participated in the closed tests of Frostpunk and Moonlighter at 11bit Studio studio.

I've closed beta tested a few things-

Command & Conquer: Sole Survivor, an old multiplayer only battle royale style spinoff of C&C that ended up being cancelled
Diablo 2, I think it was a multiplayer system stress test that included the first couple quests of the game
Elder Scrolls Online
Quake Champions

It's fun to get an early look at upcoming stuff.

Yes, a few dozen if I had to guess. (one of the perks of doing reviews or just volunteering to test some games, usually in exchange for a copy of the game at release) but I don't do that anymore, I've been working with many people and it just gets worse and worse (corruption could be a "define this with one word" thing).

They usually give you a key (a normal key) and people can see you playing a title that's not even out yet.
Sometimes you need to firm NDA stuff and I have always respected it. (you wouldn't believe how many people don't for the sake of views and content)

Feel free to ask any questions I could answer.

I was also in the Guild Wars closed beta. They let anyone in :P

Also got into an internal beta due to a friend working at QA for a certain Stockholm based overweight shark needing help. Can't say what game though

Actually they let anyone that perordered the game in. They did have a couple of open weekends, though.

I got in before that. It was actually thanks to the beta access that I ended up buying the game, as I enjoyed it so much.

not exactly a beta tester, but worked on a fan site for Dungeon Siege and had an early press copy of the first few levels before it was finished.

also, I'm (most likely) the first person to have run Super Hot on Linux, due to backing the Kickstarter, and according to the comments from the devs after I mentioned how the alpha ran on my tiny Linux system (mostly quite well, apart from some graphics things since it was using on-board Intel graphics).

No, but Guild Wars is to me one of the best games ever made.

I worked for GBTN for a year.

I enjoy gaming as a way to relax and forget about the real world. It's one of the few things I really enjoy. Testing games is not enjoyable and turning gaming into a job will ruin the enjoyment I get from it, so I wouldn't want to do it.

Thanks for the giveaway and puzzle.

Worked with the community in bug testing Dungeons of Dredmor back when the developers / community were using a public spreadsheet to track bugs with / before it got vandalized into non-existence essentially. Was messy, but also enjoyable, wish they'd have provided us better tools for testing purposes though. Setting up testing scenarios was a real pain. Specifically remember detailing a bug which could cause an item to be destroyed while on your cursor if you were auto-walking to a new tile to pick something up such as messing with inventory to organize or drop something along the way. (Faintly similar to the kind of bug that would dupe items in Diablo 1.) Wonder if that ever got fixed.

Have submitted many detailed reports and repro instructions, screenshots, and videos to a number of indies over the years, sadly for all the work that goes into that, a lot of those submissions go unfixed (and somewhat frequently even unresponded to) whether submitted in beta, early access, at release, or after release, though a few developers have made a valiant effort and when they do it only makes me appreciate their game even more, even when those issues cant be solved. Working with a developer who is good at communicating with the community is pretty satisfying.

I've been in some closed betas, but never really the ones you have to try hard to get into. Like even now, I signed up for Exoprimal test and I'm in. But there's no NDA, streaming and sharing is allowed so it feels like an open beta with extra steps. I won't pretend like I get in every one though, I never got the email for Multiversus.

Some other past ones I can see from an old email:

  • KartRider Drift
  • Marvel's Avengers
  • Spellbreak
  • Spiral Knights maybe. I can't recall if I was closed or open beta there.
  • SWTOR

Yes numerous mobile games, most of which have been recently since the mobile market is booming and there's a lot of Triple AAA games being made which have been a lot of what I've been testing.

R6S mobile, Battlefield mobile, and PUBG New State I've been able to play.

I also have received invites to test Project Aurora and just a few days ago I got an invite to test Capcoms upcoming game.

WildStar and I think SWTOR but I'm not sure. Wildstar was fun but they did leak my email, so there is that :/.

Wrath of the Lich King (WoW) and Diablo III classic for me. I got invited to SC2 but I gave that key to a friend that really wanted in.

I was a small part of the "closed" beta for Kaze and the Wild Masks, but I'm not sure how much that counts since they gave away so many keys in so many places, then immediately had an open beta right afterward.

I'm test the Microsoft Flight Simulator on 2020.
I can definitely say that in the closed beta test the game looked much more beautiful than it is now :-)

World of Warcraft Draenor expansion and Quake Champions for me, but I don't wanna repeat experience, I prefer to play the finished games (due to lack of time).
