this has been happening to me too. a temporary solution is to delete a file in X:\Program Files\Steam\

its called ClientRegistry.blob

i did this and i was able to keep it open and play a couple games of Dota, though just about a half hour ago it crashed again.

This has also been happening at start up to me, but after a few attempts it manages to stay on stable, I guess it's just like an old van at the moment. Takes a few attempts for it to splutter into life, but once you get it running it stays on for a bit until you turn it off again. Since many people seem to be experiencing it, I guess the best thing to do would be to deal with it until steam get out a fix.

"Steam.exe has stopped working" is too generic message to diagnostic your problem. You can try to uninstall everything steam related and then install again the steam client. This is probably what Steam support would tell you. It should work if that problem was due to a failed beta update or so.

Mine has done it as well... allthough running steam as administrator (Windows 7) seems to solve the problem for me.

...

Quit Steam properly (right click on it and exit). Check it's fully closed in Task Manager. Go to your steam folder. Delete everything except Steam.exe and the "Steamapps" folder. Run Steam.exe again. It will keep all your installed games, but reinstall steam itself. You'll have to set Steam settings again but this fixes 99% of these kinds of problems.

If it keeps happening, try the same, only just delete the file Clientregistry.blob in your Steam folder. If that temporarily fixes it, and it fucks up again later, that would suggest something new in the beta is causing the ticket information or other blob file ticket / handshake management to fuck up and create a corrupt file somehow.
